I’m Not a Deli!

$

I really love helping you guys, and answering questions in game. But it’s starting to get a little overwhelming. Messages via red mail are fine. Even asking me in chat. But I physically cannot be there to personally show every player who asks. So please do not be offended if I only offer to help you via chat or mail. There are just some things you need to do on your own.

Please also know that I do not purposely ignore requests for help.

That said, chat is not often the most reliable way to reach me or get my attention. I usually don’t keep my chat window open, and when I do it is NEVER on Global or Say chat (this being for various reasons, but mainly because of my strong aversion to drama). If you find me in game and are standing right next to me, I’ll be in range to see your little speech bubble pop up, but that’s not a guarantee that I will see it. Especially if I need to be afk, I usually leave the game open, or if I’m checking emails, I can just switch windows. If I don’t respond, and run away away from you, follow me. It’s probably I just didn’t see you ask for help, but I’m pretty quick to notice a shadow, and will stop and ask if you need help. If you aren’t near me, send me a mail message. I keep my inbox empty enough to receive new messages and when I do get new ones the little red message flag pops up.

Please understand though that I want to enjoy the game as much as you do. There will be times when I am doing my own tasks or quests or hanging out with friends. You are always welcome to join me, but if I am busy I will not offer to personally show you through your quest. If you are really desperate, just have some patience and I will show you when I can.

Lastly, I am not a snobby person. I enjoy helping people, and I often go out of my way to offer my help. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t still appreciate a thanks once in a while. I’m a very modest person, so a little compliment will go a long way. If I’ve helped you, tell me so. Yes, I don’t ignore requests for help, but if you are rude about it I may be more likely to put you at the bottom of my to-do list. I will gladly help people who ASK for help. I will grudgingly help people who DEMAND my help. And also be aware that you are not the only person that asks me for help in the game. Even if I do agree to help you, I can only help one person at a time, so you may have to wait your turn. Please do so patiently and I’ll help you when I can.

Here we go! One box of chocolate hearts for you. Who’s the lucky one this time? Lance? Oh, so you’re delivering it for a friend. Right, I’ve heard that one before!

Objectives: Give the hearts to Lance.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

I’m sure Lance will be surprised to get a gift in return.

lance

What’s this? Do you have chocolate for me? From whom?

A Gift for Lance

lance

Who could it be…? Are they from Mary? Do I dare hope that?

Objectives: Talk to Lance.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 40 XP

Well… I think you can dare… Just a little bit…

lance

You’re so mysterious. But whoever the secret admirer is I want to write a love letter to Mary. So there!

Quest completed

______________

How Do You Write a Love Letter?

lance

But how do you write a fine love letter? Can you help me?

Objectives: Help Lance to write a love letter to Mary.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Same way all love letters start; with something about roses.

lance

“Roses are red, violets are blue, if I invite you to a date, will you say I do?” Cool, Rita! I really hope she wants to go on a date with me. It’s a bit embarrassing to confess, but I would never have done this without your help.

Quest completed

Return to Lance tomorrow.

Now let’s go see how the trainee is doing with the cement.

We Need a Swimming Pool of Water

ged_trainee

Ok, I don’t think I’m very good at this concrete work. I poured out the cement powder everywhere but nothing happened. Then I remembered that you also need water! The class on cement at G.E.D. was only one morning and I didn’t really get the best grade… hehe. Can you see if you can find some water? A LOT of water? For this amount of water we need enough water to fill a swimming pool… Or maybe even more. How should we do it? I have no idea. But I’m sure you will think of something!

Objectives: Find someone who can help you get a huge amount of water into the wine cellar. Someone at the winery must have a good idea as to how it could be done.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Hmm, maybe someone like Carney?

carney

Hello Rita. If you can get a swimming pool of water into the cellar? Hypothetically you could. How?

You would need to do a couple of things. Shut off the watering system, plug the drainage, increase the speed of the pump and turn on the emergency system for super-watering that we only use during periods of extreme drought. It sounds like an interesting mental exercise. In more detail this is how it could be done…

Quest completed

You will need to do the first two quests before the third one can be done. You can do the first two in either order you like, but they must be completed before the third one can be done.

Stop the Watering System

carney

One thing that would need to be done is to make sure the watering system isn’t getting more water. If that happened the pressure would become explosive in the cellar. How to turn of the watering system?

The watering system gets its water from three different sources you would need to close. You can do this by closing the three different valves there, there and over there. See? But there is no real reason to do it… So I’m not sure why you are asking. You want to take a closer look there at those valves? Sure, why not?

Objectives: Turn the three valves to stop the water and then speak with Carney again.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

The three valves are in each of the front fields, east of the Manor.

When you have shut off all three of them, return to Carney.

carney

Hello. I saw that you were gone a while and I looked at those valves I showed you. You are sure you didn’t touch anything? Hmmm… It looked like the watering system had been shut off. But it doesn’t matter. As long as the drainage isn’t plugged and the pump isn’t going too fast, it shouldn’t be a problem. And what are the chances of those three things would happen at the same time?

Quest completed

______________

Plug the Drainage

carney

The drainage system? Yes, sometimes it plugs. For some reason the drains from the stable also run through the same system. A bunch of hay does a great job of plugging the system completely every now and then. Hay is very effective at causing stoppages.

Where the drain is? Down from the winery but above the riding arena if you want a look at it.

Objectives: Take hay from the barn and plug up the drain below the winery. The drain is below and behind the winery main building on the cliff above the riding area.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Grab some hay from the bale by the stable. To get to the drainage pipe, go under the little bridge going to the riding arena. Continue along outside the winery until you are about directly west of the winery building. The pipe is really big, set into the side of the hill, and hard to miss.

You have to be dismounted to use the hay. When you are done with your mischief, go back to Carney.

carney

Was the drain pipe interesting? There was some hay in it? Of course, as long as it isn’t completely stopped and nobody increases the speed of the pump there shouldn’t be a problem. The chances of that happening are smaller than the sun not coming up tomorrow, so don’t worry about it.

Quest completed

______________

Speed Pumping

carney

The pump in the cellar? The pump is in the boiler room. It is a very advanced pump. It is impossible to increase and decrease the pump speed by just hitting a couple buttons. When all the gauges are red the pump is at its maximum speed.

It is quite hard to get it to max out in normal conditions. I lost the manual a long time ago but it doesn’t matter. What would you want with that?

Objectives: Go to the pump in the cellar and try to get it up to maximum speed.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

The boiler room is across the main hall from the room the trainee is in.

The goal is to get the screen filled up with the red squares by clicking different combinations of the green buttons. The red button will set the squares back down to one.

I did this part several times to test it. It does not matter what order you press the green buttons as long as you press them all at least once. You could go across the line and press them all in order. It will not work though if you have not done the previous two quests.

When you have gotten them all red, go back to Carney.

carney

Hmmm… Does it sound like the pump is running faster than normal? But it shouldn’t matter. As long as the watering system is shut off and the drainage isn’t plugged, it should be fine. And really… What are the chances that will ever happen?

Quest completed

______________

Super Watering System

carney

The emergency system for fast watering during drought? Yes, it is the pride of the winery! When things get their hottest in the summer months we need extra watering sometimes. Then I just press this button here and we get as much water as the Silversong river in a minute! You want to try it? Sure, why not? What could possibly go wrong?

Push the button behind me and you’ll get to see something special.

Objectives: Push the button by Carney to start the super watering system.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Someone is in serious denial…

Push the button!

carney

By Jon Jarl’s shadow! What happened? What incredibly bad luck. The whole cellar must have filled up with water…

Oh no. How am I going to explain this to the Baroness… Rita, you’ll have to excuse me. I need to go take care of this problem.

Quest completed

Go see the trainee in the cellar about the water.

The World is Full of Water

ged_trainee

So much water, did you see? Did you do this? That was really smart!

Objectives: Speak with the trainee again.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Why, yes I did do this. Impressed?

ged_trainee

This should do the trick but it will definitely take at least a day for the cement to cure. We’ll see you tomorrow.

Quest completed

Return to the trainee tomorrow.

I did check that the WordPress URL does automatically reconnect to this one. So if you type ssoridethrough.wordpress.com into your browser, it will automatically take you to ssoridethrough.com.

Aren’t I awesome?? ;D

Let’s go see how Lance’s love letter has come along.

Has She Received the Letter?

lance

Mary should have gotten the letter now. Could you ride to her and see how she reacts, if the letter makes her happy?

Objectives: Ride to Mary and ask her if she got the letter.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Mary is still in front of Doyle’s Abbey, near Fort Pinta.

mary

Rita, I got a love letter! Do you think it could be from Lance?

Quest completed

______________

The Riding Carrier Pigeon

mary

Of course I want to meet Lance, or whoever it is! I’m not asked out on a date very often What about this, I make a picnic and meanwhile, you can ride to the mysterious guy and give him my answer. The date will be tomorrow!

Objectives: Deliver the reply letter to Lance.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Funny how she doesn’t care what his name is, so long as she’s asked out on a date. She must be pretty desperate…

Ride back to Lance and tell him that Mary accepts his invitation to a date.

lance

“I would love to go on a date with you! A picnic in the shadow of a tree, close to the beautiful cemetery! Come and meet me there tomorrow.” What a nice letter! And she said yes! She says we’ll have a picnic tomorrow. That’s great!

Quest completed

Return to Lance tomorrow.

Now let’s go see how the trainee at the Winery is doing with the cement.

The Hole in the Wall is Gone

ged_trainee

Woohoo! Look at that! Everything is fixed. So nice. It is time for me to get back to North Link. I hope the boss isn’t too angry at me for being away for so long.

Goodbye for now, come and visit me any time by North Link any time you like. You can tell the Baroness that the cellar is expanded and ready to go so she should be happy. I’ll get out of here as soon as you talk with her.

See you soon!

Objectives: Speak with the Baroness.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Go see the Baroness standing in front of the Manor, and tell her you have finished with the cellar.

baroness

Hello dear. Is the cellar finished? Excellent. Then I’ll go down and inspect it at once. Meet me there Rita.

Quest completed

______________

What a Fantastic Cellar

baroness

This has been wonderfully done Rita. You are as good at building as you are with wines and riding! Is there anything you can’t do? Look how big the cellar is now. We should be able to store many fine years of wine.

You have mopped the whole floor down too… The floor has never been this clean in here before. You didn’t really need to do that.

Objectives: Speak with the Baroness.

Rewards: 200 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP, Baroness Coat

Oh, gee, you flatter me…

Now, back up into the daylight again.

baroness

As thanks for your fantastic work, I have your compensation here. I would also like you to have this jacket that I had when I was young. See this as a little bonus for doing such a great job.

Quest completed

Now let’s go check on the trainee up at North Link.

Finished With Training

ged_trainee

Hello there! So great to see you again. I’m glad you came so soon because I won’t be here for long. I’ve gotten a bit tired of this job. Nobody even noticed that I was missing.

Everything is in such bad shape and it feels like none of them care what we do or that we are destroying the environment for no reason. Nope… This is not the right job for me. I want to work to make things grow rather than destroying them.

The winery you say? Yes, I do know a lot about wine. You are right, that would be perfect for me. Speak with the Baroness and tell her you sent me? Thank you for the tip! I’ll do that right away!

Objectives: Speak with the trainee.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Finally. A worker with a heart. I think I like this guy.

ged_trainee

It is a little strange but I don’t think we were ever properly introduced. Rita? What a nice name! My name is Conny. I hope we’ll see each other again soon.

Goodbye!

Quest completed

Marley has an idea for a new project for you. Let’s go see what he has to say.

Marley’s New Idea

marley

Howdy Rita! Thanks for all the help building the jumping course. Now I really need your help again! The jumping course is fine of course… But I was reading in the last Jorvik Gazette about barrel racing. It sounds like the coolest thing ever! I’ve already started to put a course together…

Unfortunately I have NO idea how barrel racing really works… So I ordered an official rulebook. Can you pick it up for me? Derek at the post office should have it by now.

Objectives: Ride to the post office in Silverglade and pick up the Barrel Racing Rulebook that Marley order.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

The post office is in the main square, across from the vet’s house.

derek

Heya Rita! Aha! Yes, Marley’s book has arrived.

Quest completed

______________

Post with a Plan

derek

Here is the book Marley ordered. Barrel racing huh? It sounds really really fun! If I ever manage to get up in the saddle I would definitely want to try that out. Yes, I did sneak a peek at the book last night… I was bored… I hope you don’t mind…

Say hello to Marley for me and good luck!

Objectives: Bring the rulebook to Marley.

Rewards 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

You’re lucky you’re cute, because I wouldn’t want you to be my mailman. How unprofessional, looking at other people’s mail.

Take the book back to Marley.

marley

Yeehaw! Now we can put together the first official barrel racing course in Jorvik. Give me a hand here Rita. This is going to be fantastic!

Quest completed

______________

Barrels for the Race

marley

The first thing I did was order some barrels. You can’t really have a barrel race without barrels, right? Even I couldn’t get that wrong…

James in Fort Pinta was supposed to accept the order and bring them here… But he hasn’t shown up. Can you ride over to James and find out what the hold-up is?

Objectives: Ride over to James in Fort Pinta and find out what has happened to the barrels Marley ordered.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Always a delivery problem. Seriously…

Let’s go see what James has to say about the missing barrels.

james

Of course… the barrels. I had almost forgotten about that. Unfortunately the truck that delivered them had a bit of an accident. The truck driver thought for some reason I said “Firgrove” and not “Fort Pinta,” so he drove up in the mountains instead of coming straight here…

The truck driver called from Firgrove and said that the barrels must have fallen off somewhere between Valedale Lake and Firgrove. He said that if I wanted the barrels I would have to go and pick them up myself. He said there was no amount of money that would make him drive THAT road again. I’d love to help out but I have to take care of all the tourists here in Fort Pinta. Business is going great right now so I don’t really have any time to spare. I’m afraid that if Marley wants them you’ll have to find them yourself. Good luck!

Objectives: Find the barrels in the mountains between Firgrove and Valedale Lake and deliver them to Marley.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

There are three barrels to find along the Firgrove Mountain Pass. Two of them are on the trail. The thrid is off the trail, on the Firgrove side, at the first sharp corner.

When you have pick up all three barrels, return to Marley with them.

marley

You found the barrels! Great job Rita. But wait… They are completely broken. What should I do now? Without barrels I can’t really have a barrel race, can I?

Quest completed

Return to Marley tomorrow.

Let’s see if Lance is ready for his hot date, er, I mean, fun picnic.

Preparations

lance

It’s time Rita! Wish me luck! I promise I’ll tell you everything! I have flowers and all, this will be great. Do I look good? Do you think she’ll like me?

Objectives: Wish Lance good luck!

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Good luck Lance!

lance

Thank you Rita! You are a real friend.

Quest completed

Let’s go see the happy couple at their picnic spot in front of the abbey.

A Romantic Day for Two

mary

Hello Rita! You have no idea how fantastic our date was! We are so grateful and happy because you helped us find love!

Objectives: (Talk to Mary about the picnic.)

Rewards: 200, 20 XP, A Cute Sweater from Lance and Mary

Hope it was lovely, dear.

mary

Please take these gifts from us as a thank you! We really hope you will like them!

Quest completed

Let’s go see Marley about getting the barrels fixed.

The Smith’s New Barrels

marley

Yes! You are probably right! Ride over to Conrad, he is good at fixing and making just about everything. I’m sure he can fix my barrels. Here are the broken barrels Rita, ride like the wind and come back as soon as you can. I’ll read the rulebook while you are gone to be sure we do this just right.

Objectives: Ride over to Conrad with the broken barrels.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Conrad can be found at his smithy in Moorland.

conrad_marsdeen

Fix the barrels… Not really my area, but for you we’ll take a look. But remember I don’t do anything halfway… We’ll fix these right or not at all. If I’m making a barrel they will be the best barrels you’ve ever seen.

Quest completed

______________

New Wood for the Broken Barrels

conrad_marsdeen

The first thing we need is new wood. Wood that will last hundreds of years… Not the cheap stuff these barrels were built with. The best wood for barrels is only found in one place in Jorvik. Beside Valedle Lake. There is an ancient oak beside the lake and under it you should be able to find some old fallen branches that should be as strong as the mountains.

That is what we will build out barrels with.

The oak tree should be easy to find… It is the only one of its kind near Valedale Lake.

Objectives: Bring the branches from beside Valedale Lake to Conrad.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

The oak tree is in the middle of the Valedale Lake area. It’s the only big, leafy tree. To get to it, follow the race trail. The tree is just around the hairpin turn. You’ll have to go off of the trail to get to the branches. Most of them are on the beach beside the tree.

When you have collected enough branches, return to Conrad.

conrad_marsdeen

Great Rita! This wood should make for the best barrels in Jorvik. Now I’ll just cut them to the right length…

Quest completed

______________

New Iron for the Barrels

conrad_marsdeen

The wood for the barrels is ready. Now we need more iron to make the bands around the barrels that hold the wood together.

Go pick up some more iron ore from the Demascus Mine. Borrow my pick-axe and break some iron ore from the rocks that I can use to forge the bands for the barrels.

Objectives: Break off some iron ore in the Demascus Mine and bring it to Conrad.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

The mine is to the west of the smithy. Go in and dismount your horse to collect the ore. When you are done, return to Conrad.

conrad_marsdeen

Good Rita! Now I’ll forge some bands for these barrels. It is going to take a while but anything worth doing is worth doing right. These will be the best barrels in Jorvik.

Quest completed

Return to Conrad tomorrow.

Now let’s go see what Barney needs help with.

Farmer

barney

Hello, Rita! It’s time to sow some seeds and plant some potatoes. Would you mind helping me out? You see, my back hurts so some help from a healthy young girl would be a lifesaver.

Objectives: Do you want to help Barney to grow some crops?

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 40 XP

What’s with all the back problems? Either the people of Jorvik need to have a lesson in safe lifting technique or they need to invest in importing a chiropractor…

barney

How nice! Well, the thing is that my relatives and I are going to have a large potluck supper at my place in a couple of days. What’s better than to use your own crop? Lucky for me the vegetables normally grow very fast on my fields so I think we will get a good harvest if we start now!

Quest completed

______________

Flourishing Seeds

barney

When it’s time to plant for the year I always talk to Felix. He knows a lot about nature and has a special interest in seeds. His seeds are always of a good quality. Can you ride over there and pick some up for me? Pick up some of each kind of seed and we’ll see what will grow the best!

Objectives: Ride to Felix in Silverglade Village and ask about seeds.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Go see Felix in the village.

felix

Hi Rita! Oh, indeed, Barney is going to have his annual family party? Hard to believe a whole year has gone by already.

Quest completed

______________

Some Different Seeds

felix

I have put together some bags of different seeds but haven’t written on the labels what they are. Barney likes surprises. Take these to him and say hello from me!

Objectives: Deliver the seeds to Barney.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Go back to Barney with your plant progeny.

barney

Thank you Rita! I can’t wait to see what these grow up to be!

Quest completed

______________

Dig Holes in the Ground

barney

We need to dig some holes in the ground to sow the seeds. Here, take my spade and go out on the field. Make sure to get off your horse to dig. Watch out for the combine harvester, it is dangerous and not to be trifled with!

Objectives: Dig some holes in the field to sow the seeds.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

You have to be dismounted to dig the holes. It’s faster to just run out in the field on your own, instead of taking your horse and having to get up and down.

And try not to find out what happens when a body meets the combine…

When you have dug all the holes, return to Barney.

barney

Nice work Rita! Very well done. Keep this up and you will learn how to be a really good farmer!

Quest completed

______________

Time to Plant and Sow

barney

Now it’s time to plant the seeds. Here is the bag of seeds to spread out over the field. It’s not that important where you plant them, some here and there will be good enough.

Objectives: Spread the seeds on the field.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Eh, just, whatevs…

Put the seeds in the holes and then return to Barney.

barney

Good work! Maybe we should water the seeds a little bit? That will help them to start growing.

Quest completed

______________

All Living Things Need Water

barney

Here is my old watering can. It should be enough for the new seeds. It’s so nice that you are helping me with this, Rita. Now I have to write some invitations for my family party.

Objectives: Water the fields.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Take the watering can and water all of the seeds, then return to Barney.

barney

Thanks a million! Now we have to wait and see if it will grow.

Quest completed

Return to Barney tomorrow.

Looking for Contributors – Write for SSORT – Tentative Deadline: April 12 – Please read the whole post if you are interested!

$

I’m looking for some new writers to help fill some time and space on the blog. So, here’s my call to everyone who has been interested in being a writer. This is a serious position though, and you must be able to fill ALL of the requirements listed below. Consider it a job interview. Except there’s no salary. Just the satisfaction of being a writer on SSORT.

I don’t have a list of things for people to write about. That you will have to come up with on your own. The only requirement regarding content of your posts is that it has to do with the game. I’m pretty much open to anything helpful or creative (could be anything from stories featuring your game characters to just collections of funny screenshots). Feel free to shoot me a message if you want feedback on your idea before officially applying. Also, please choose a topic or set that is wide, that you can continue to write on for an extended period of time. I don’t want you to be running out of ideas in the first two weeks (though if it is an exceptional good idea I may consider allowing ‘special’ short term writers). It also must not violate my blog standards (so no posts about the star or secret locations, how to use glitches, etc).

I’m looking to add two or three new writers. So don’t think you have to out-compete everyone.

Serious inquiries only please. If you can fulfill all of the requirements below please EMAIL me (ssoridethrough@yahoo.com) with a sample writing entry (basically what a post of yours would be like if were actually included in the blog).

1. Be able to use proper English grammar.

I won’t kick you out for the occasional typo, but you must be able to type with correct grammar a majority of the time (i.e. no chatspeak or text talk).

2. Have/or able to register for a WordPress account.

THIS IS A MUST. You will not be able to access the blog to write your posts, otherwise. Experience and knowledge of/with WordPress is not a requirement. The site is pretty easy to use and if you have any questions navigating it I’ll be happy to help (I’m still not a master at everything here though, so I wouldn’t expect you to be).

3. Have an email account and be willing to use it to communicate with me regarding posts.

This is mostly so I can maintain a behind the scenes contact with my writers. I like to micromanage like that…

4. Must be able to produce at least one post per week.

While there may be off weeks where you write more than one post or no posts at all that week, I want to maintain the expectation that you are able to produce new posts on a regular basis (you’ll be allowed vacation/sick time, don’t worry!).

5. Must have a sense of humor.

I do intend this to be a position you TAKE seriously, you don’t have to BE serious all the time. A few jokes here and there keeps things light. :)

6. Must be mature.

There is not a minimum age requirement, but I do not tolerate drama of any kind.

All of this is at my discretion. Even if I have chosen you to be a writer, I reserve the right to remove you at any time. I would only do this if you are doing something I do not like, but I will give you a warning before removing you from the site.

You do not have to have a WordPress blog. You only have to register an account with WordPress. If you are chosen to be a writer I will send you an invite via email using your WordPress username. All you will have to do is accept the invitation and you will be able to log into your account to access my blog and start writing your own posts. If you’ve never used WordPress before, that’s okay. As a contributor, you will be able to start and write your own posts. They must be submitted for review and I will have control over publishing them. I only mean this mostly to keep a schedule on the blog (I prefer to have no more than one post a day, so please do not get offended if I don’t publish your post right away), and just to edit for typos before they are published. You will also get a character picture that will be on the sidebar (currently pixel sprites which I will provide, we’ll talk about that later). You won’t be able to upload images to the blog (this is not my choosing, this is something that’s limited by the site itself). You are welcome to use any of the images already uploaded but if you would like to post your own pictures you will have to email me beforehand and I will upload them for you.

Forgive me for wanting to limit access to the site. If you prove trustworthy and dependable I am willing to upgrade contributors to authors (which will be allowed to upload images as you please and will not need my permission to publish posts). But we’ll see how this goes first.

Again, if you are interested, please email me. I will see if I have enough entries by the deadline. If so I will announce the new writers soon after. If not, I will extend the deadline.

So, get writing!

Conrad has finished making the barrels for Marley.

Finished Barrels

conrad_marsdeen

I didn’t realized making barrels could be such a tough job. I never would have believed it. But here they are Rita, the best barrels Jorvik has ever seen. Bring them to Marley and use them with pride!

Objectives: Ride back to Marley with the amazing new barrels.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

So amazing! Marley should be happy to see these fixed…

marley

Where have you been? How could it have taken so long to repair a couple of barrels?

Oh. The blacksmith has worked day and night to make me new barrels that should last hundreds of years. Uh oh. I wonder what the bill is going to be… I only wanted him to switch out a few boards…

Quest completed

______________

Build the Course

marley

While you were gone I read the rulebook on exactly how barrel racing should be done. Behind my house I have marked off on the field exactly where the barrels should be. So, you only need to ride over and put them down in the right place. Then we just need to test it out!

Objectives: Place the barrels at the marked places.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

You have to be dismounted from your horse to place the three barrels. When they are set go back to Marley.

marley

Yeehaw! Well done Rita! Are you ready for a little barrel racing?

Quest completed

______________

My Brother the Inspector

marley

Ok… Now we need to inspect the course. Can you ride over to my brother Carney and ask him to come over and inspect the course? I know, I know… It is awful not to even try it once before it is inspected… But if it isn’t inspected I can’t open it up for anyone.

Objectives: Speak with Carney at the Winery and ask him to come to Marley’s to inspect the barrel racing course.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Carney is by the stables at the Winery.

carney

I see. My brother wants me to come and inspect his crazy new race. I have a lot to do today that can’t wait… But maybe tomorrow. We’ll see.

Quest completed

Return to Marley tomorrow.

Now let’s go see how Barney is doing with his crops.

Are the Crops Growing?

barney

Hello again! I am a bit worried, nothing has come up from the soil. I hope I don’t have to postpone the party. We need to do something extra to get the plants started… Cow poo! Yes, you heard right! We need to spread some manure to get the plants ready in time. Maybe you and Summerblaze can use this spade to collect some manure for me? Ride to Hollow Woods and Valedale. Claire’s cow manure would be perfect for this.

Objectives: Get cow manure outside Valedale.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Go to the cows near Valedale, and collect their poo. You have to be dismounted to use the shovel. When you have collected enough manure, return to Barney.

barney

Awesome! It smells really bad! Lucky for us that the crops don’t have noses.

Quest completed

______________

Fertilize the Field

barney

Fertilizing the field is not glamorous work, but it has to be done, Rita. Take the bucket with manure and spread it out here and there. The soil will absorb the nutrients fast. No time to lose, take the bucket and start!

Objectives: Spread the manure on the field.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Dismount from your horse and go out into the field again to spread the manure. Then return to Barney.

barney

Good fertilizing. We can’t do any more work today.

Quest completed

Return to Barney tomorrow.

It has been asked frequently where the locations for couple water-fetching quests.

For the tourists quests with the forestfire:

quest-water_for_fire

Go towards the river behind the abandoned summer home, the head north a bit until you get to a little beach. You will see the watermill almost directly across the river. You can dismount and fill up the bucket anywhere from here.

______________

Star Stable is down at the moment, I will add a map later for the Meltwater quest.

The ‘meltwater’ refers to the glacier above Valedale Village. Go across the bridge toward Avalon’s house, and then go north along the river, by the water reeds. It’s a similar location you got the waterlily for the sick horse.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

barney

It’s harvest time, which is a lot of work and very tiring, so to make it a bit more fun I suggest that we have a race. But as you can see, the combine harvester isn’t finished in the field yet so be careful so you don’t hurt yourself or Summerblaze.

A Taste

barney

That’s it! What do you think, shall we taste the crops? Maybe you can give some to Steve’s horses in the stable? I trust their opinion! You know that too much potato isn’t good for horses, but my potato is completely harmless. It has to be something magic about my soil…

Objectives: Feed Steve’s horses.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Feed each of the three horses in the stable, then return to Barney.

barney

I Believe a Boycott is in Order

“I am utterly appalled by the behavior of the players on the game lately. There really needs to be a team of full time moderators, as well as an acceptable use policy with clear cut consequences for not following the policy. It is disgraceful that your game is left unmoderated. I’m sure you realize that there are many young players on the game and there are people who have figured out how to swear around the chat filter. This is something that is important to me as a player, so I will not keep this concern to myself. I will continue to contact the support until something is done about this issue. And until then your game will have one less player.”

I’m sure I am not the only one concerned about this. If you agree please help me get through to the game owners. We need moderators.

Please help by contacting the game support (directly email “support@starstable.com” as the contact button on the game website does not work), as well as posting on the game’s Facebook page. Make your message very strong and pointed. Use proper spelling and grammar. (Feel free to use a version of my message) We want the game team to take this issue seriously as they have not in the past. Also feel free to pledge here a boycott (this is not required but if you are going to do it, you must be serious about it and stick with it).

I am not permanently quitting the game. I will continue to update the blog.

I am pledging a boycott of Star Stable Online.

Hazel Raindawn posted on Facebook she has received a reply from the CEO of the game.

“I received another reply from the SEO of Star Stable – good news! They are testing out the idea of a volunteer moderator program!

Hazel Raindawn , sorry for the delay on replying to your message again.
A volunteer program is thankfully not a new idea and has been used in many other titles. It can work well (and has worked very well in two of the other games I have worked on) but it far from perfect and requires work and supporting systems to make it effective. A great deal of harassment and bullying happens in private channels and the action we take is not always publicly visible as we have to maintain the privacy of everyone involved. We do take all claims of this kind very seriously. We are already running a test program of a “volunteer moderator” program on the Swedish server. When we get the systems in place for them to be able to work effectively with the community we will be expanding it to all the servers. Issuing warnings without the ability to immediately follow up is not going to be effective and requires significant investment and development to achieve.

I do agree this kind of behaviour is a problem, which is why we are always going to work to try and find ways to improve the way we detect and handle these situations. We already handle thousands of issues and customer mails every week in six different languages. A volunteer program will help in this area which is exactly why we are working on it. At the end of the day we want parents of younger children to understand that nothing we can do will ever be a good substitute for engaging with your children and helping them learn to handle difficult situations that might arise, either in our game or in real life.

We hope to be able to expand our volunteer program in the near future. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Constructive dialogue is a great place for us to start improving this together.

Sincerely,

Colin Colin Hayes Cragg
CEO - Star Stable”

This is exactly what I have been striving for. I know implementing a functional moderator system is a huge task and certainly can’t be completed overnight. I’m surprised we’ve gotten through so quickly. This makes me immensely happy because it means we have game staff that do indeed listen to their players and care about their input (I have played several games where this was not true, needless to say I did not play them for very long).  Now that we know that the staff is aware (they probably have been for awhile, but I like to know that they are aware) I want to make the ultimate goal of this to bring awareness to the community as a whole. Because, really, that’s what we are. A community. We play this game together, we interact with each other, and our own behavior sets the mood for the community.

In a perfect world, there would be no need for moderators. While this world is not perfect, we can always keep that poster in mind as we play. I will be keeping the petition open. The game staff are aware of the petition and I think it will help them in the future when they are working on implementing the moderator feature for sure. Continue to report bad behavior you see in the game. And don’t start fights to begin with. Even if someone says something rude to you, add them to your ignore list (second to the ‘friends’ tab) and walk away. Don’t let them ruin your day, and definitely don’t reply to them. That only stoops to their level and now you are not any better than they are.

Let’s make this game a better place. Let’s continue help our fellow players. Let’s strive to be the best riders that we can be.

Peace out, y’all!

:D

The Security guard in Fort Pinta is ready for the next step in the important mission.

Security First and Foremost

security

POINT FOUR! Restore security around the base.

What? Calm down? Why should I calm down?

Sorry… Sniff…

You don’t understand… I always wanted to be a soldier, not a security guard. But the doctor said my head was too big to be a soldier… None of the helmets would fit. Sniff… So I daydream a bit every now and then, and pretend I am an officer here in the Fort.

That is okay with you? Really? Thank you. Make sure you tell me if you think I am taking it too far sometimes. Please, let’s keep this our little secret. I wouldn’t want anyone else to know… They might think I’m crazy.

You promise you wont tell anyone?

Objectives: Speak with the guard again.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Oh, I’m not judging. My own nerd fantasies are probably much weirder…

Thank you, I promise I’ll calm down a bit. I should probably get a dog I can give orders to?

Hmm… That’s not a bad idea. I’m going to think about it.

Requisition immediately a well-made and army approved padlock from the supply officer Marsdeen. You would probably call him Conrad the blacksmith.

MOVE OUT!

Objectives: Ask the blacksmith to deliver a lock for the Pet Store in Fort Pinta.

I’m sure Conrad will be happy to oblige.

Can You Smell the Smoke?

helga

Oh dear! What have we done! We were only going to barbecue some bratwurst, and we ended up starting a fire! We didn’t know it wasn’t safe to barbecue here… You have a horse! Can you please gallop down to get some water from the Silversong River? Please hurry before the whole forest catches fire!

Objectives: Ride down to the Silversong River and get some water, extinguish the fires and then talk to Helga.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

To fill up your bucket, go to the river behind the summer home. Follow the river to the little beach; the watermill will be almost directly across the river from here. You have to dismount your horse, then you can fill up your bucket anywhere from the shore.

quest-water_for_fire

When you have filled your bucket, ride around and extinguish the flames. When you are finished, return the Helga.

helga

Thank goodness that you and your fast horse showed up when you did! You saved the whole forest. Oh, it could have been so bad.

Talk About Safety First with Gretchen

Objectives: Talk to Gretchen.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

You need to be more insistent then in the future, so they don’t make the same mistake…

gretchen

I hope they will listen to me next time. I always tell them how they should do things out in the woods but they never listen. Maybe they will listen to me now.

Quest completed

Quest completed

______________

A Grill for the Barbecue

gunther

What do you say, can you help me build a fireplace? We need stone as foundation, wood for nice benches and a grill to put the sausages on. You know this neighborhood better than we, so you may know where to find it all. We have heard about a blacksmith with good reputation. Maybe that’s the first step, to get him to make a grill?

Objectives: Find the blacksmith Gunther is talking about.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Oh, Conrad? He has lots of street cred with the locals.

conrad_marsdeen

Hello Rita! Nice to see you here. You need a grill? Of course I will help you, you have helped me collect wood so many times so it’s the least I can do. But it won’t be ready today, come back tomorrow.

Quest completed

Return to Conrad tomorrow.

Quick Reminder!

$
0
0

Just a quick reminder to everyone: If you are interested in being a writer for SSORT, you have one week from today to get your entries in.

The deadline for sure now is April 12. I will no longer be accepting entries after that day. I will be reviewing the entries I have received and making my decision shortly after. I will be contacting the people I have chosen by that Monday, at the latest, and will hopefully have them set up and ready to write by the end of that week. I will make the official introductions then.

If you are interested and still haven’t sent your entry in, you can get all the information here.

I AM NOT looking for ‘general advice’ writers, or any ‘random stuff happened today’ writers. I want a very specific purpose outlined (ie race advice, creative original stories, or similar ideas). Basically, I’m looking for something you can do on your own that is not dictated by other people’s responses, like a general advice column would be. Also, we already have that here via the Get Help Here page. So I specifically do not want question and answer type columns.

I am also looking for a demonstration of your writing skills in your entry. I have gotten entries written completely in chat speak or written with no capitalization or punctuation. Proper spelling is only half of being able to write well. I’m not saying you have to be absolutely perfect, but just because your computer has spell check does not mean you are a good writer.

Really, I don’t want entries like ‘hi i want to be a rihgter i can spell good and i like to play dis game alot’

No, no, no! Not allowed!

Use my writing as a standard here. I know I don’t catch all the typos, and sometimes they slip through. But if your writing has significantly more errors (like you need more than two hands to count them all), I’m just going to toss your entry out. My reasoning being, I’m going to assume that the errors stem from lack of effort and if you won’t take the time to nicely write two sentences, then you won’t extend the effort to creating well-written blog entries.

I apologize if I seem like I’m being too picky, but I want this blog to be of quality. I get a very sizable amount of views now each day, so I do not want to be spreading more crap around, because that is really not want the internet needs.

I am only stressing this because I have had people get offended because I politely told them I thought they had a good starting idea for their entry but needed to work on improving their writing skills. In doing so, you have directly violated my ‘no drama’ rule. Even if your entry was quality, that alone would have disqualified you. I don’t HAVE to let anyone else write for the blog. I am the owner of it, and therefore I get to dictate what goes on it. I’m sorry you feel so entitled to it but that’s not how the world works.

(Steps down from soap box.)

Anyway!

Like I said, if you are still interested, make sure to get your entry to me by next Friday!

Hope you all have a good weekend!

A Tailor-Made Grill

Objectives: Ride back with the grill to the tourists in Hollow Woods.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Conrad does not approve…

Take the grill up to the tourists.

What a nice grill! We will have plenty of  wonderful barbecues on it when it is finished!

First we need to gather material to build the rest of the grill.

Wood and Stones

gunther

I saw an abandoned summer house a short way from here, maybe we can find some loose stones there? And wood, there are logs laying around in the forest.

gunther

Such good luck that you have a strong and noble horse! This will be perfect for building a fireplace.

Quest completed

______________

gunther

You found excellent stones and logs in the perfect size. Now we get to build the fireplace! The logs can be used as benches and the stones as a foundation for the barbecue. And to crown our fireplace, the grill!

Objectives: Place the stone, logs and grill.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Dismount your horse, and place the components a little way off the trail.

When you have built the fireplace, return to Gunther.

gunther

What a splendid fireplace, perfect for cooking outdoors! Now the fire can’t spread to the forest. In hindsight I can understand how irresponsible we were when we tried to grill on the ground.

Quest completed

______________

A New Fireplace

Rewards: 100 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Yes, Gunther, you are a stupid, stupid man.

Edit: I will also be posting breed locations and stats later this week when I get the chance to work on it.

A Hint About a Threat

mr_kembell

If I were you I would ride to the riding arena. A little bird whispered in my ear that something may be wrong over there. Maybe you can call it karma…

Objectives: Inspect the riding hall.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Oh, Mr Kembell, what did you do now??

When you’ve inspected the damage, return to the Winery and speak with the Baroness.

baroness

What did you say? But that is horrible! Who could do something like that? You think Mr Kembell did it? That is a serious accusation but I would not be surprised if it was true…

Quest completed

Talk to Tyra

baroness

Please Rita, can you help me clean up this mess. As long as we don’t have any evidence against Mr Kembell we can’t do anything about it. I have to think about this. Talk to Tyra, she has a mop and a bucket, detergent and everything else you may need.

Objectives: Talk to Tyra. She is at the Silverglade Equestrian Center.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Tyra will help you with getting supplies to clean up the mess.

tyra

Rita! Have you seen it. The riding arena is a disaster. We have to clean up this mess. The Baroness needs all the help we can give her, she has so much more to do at the Manor. And now this, terrible!

Quest completed

______________

Clean it Up

tyra

Here is a mop bucket and a cloth to scrub away the graffiti. You can put the trash in this garbage bag. We have to see to it that something like this doesn’t happen again. I will talk to the Baroness about what we can do.

Objectives: Clean the riding stables and return to Tyra.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Go down to the riding hall and clean up the mess. Use the bucket to clean the windows, and click on the trash to pick it up. When you are finished, return to Tyra.

tyra

Did it go well? All graffiti is gone? And the garbage bag was big enough? Great work, Rita. I talked to the Baroness meanwhile and we have a plan.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter to be a writer. It was quite a decision to just choose two, though I did get a lot of great entries. I may add more writers in the future, so don’t feel that you’ve missed your chance.

For now, I would like to introduce you to Alice Silentbrooke and Anna Whalewood as the new SSORT writers!

They will be writing Star Stable themed original fiction. So you have some wonderful serial stories to look forward to!

We’re still working on getting them set up to work on the blog, but we will have some posts from them in the next couple days.

Enjoy!

The Cold – Intro

Hi! Im Alice a new contributor to Star stable Online Ride Through! I will be writing a story or two every week, this is my first story entitled ‘The Cold’

“Were are we?”Alice asked, as she zipped up her purple coat.
“I’m not sure,” replied Lily. She turned her tourch on and pointed it ahead where it glimmered with the moon light. They walked among grass that was up to their necks and trees that branches reached the ground.
All of a sudden, the sound of snapping twigs and crunching leaves came from behind…..
“Lily please tell me that was you!” Alice pleaded.
“What? I didn’t do anything!” replied Lily. All of a sudden she felt an ice cold hand touch her shoulder. She turned around as fast as lighting to see what it was…
A green thing covered in mud and grass with a stench of unknown stood in front of them.
“Uuuugh” It moaned.
“Oh my god! WHAT IS THAT!!!!!” Alice shouted.
“Hang on a minute” said Lily as she started to peal away the mud and grass.
She started pealing away even more to reveal a face of a young, pretty teenage girl.
“What on earth! What are you doing Emma?” Lily said, startled.
“I I dont know! I was walking Annie, my dog, when she just ran of into the bushes! I tried to race after her but tripped and fell on my face. Im not sure what happend after that!” explained Emma
“Ok well lets go home and we can get hot chocolate and sit in front of the fire to warm you up,” smiled Alice.
