Snake in the Trap!

freja_sunfield

Hi Rita!

I’ve hardly slept! I’ve just been lying there thinking about the snake — it feels like it took years for you to show up. Casper thought so, too, but now you’re here we should check the traps, right?

I really, really, really, really, REEEEAAAALLLLYYY hope we’ve caught the snake!

Objectives: Check the traps you set up to see if you’ve caught anything, then talk to Freja.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 20 with Sunfield Family

Ride out to check each of the traps. Return to Freja when you have found the snake.

freja_sunfield

Really?! We’ve caught a snake?! Yay! Lemme see! Lemme see!

Quest completed

______________

What a Beauty!

freja_sunfield

Aww, look! He’s beautiful! I had no idea snakes could be this lovely. Have you ever seen such a pretty snake before?

Hmm, he doesn’t seem very happy to be kept in that cage. It’s probably best I just pick him up and take him out.

You don’t think it’s a good idea?

Oh, it’ll be fine Rita, I’m great with animals! I just think this little guy is a bit scared, so if I just pick him up and pet him a little, he’ll understand there’s nothing to be afraid of.

Objectives: Talk to Freja.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 15 with Sunfield Family

quest-slithery_thing

Just because it’s cute, doesn’t mean it’s friendly….

freja_sunfield

OUCH!

Oh no! Sorry I dropped him Rita! Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, SORRY!!

Quest completed

______________

Snake on the Loose

freja_sunfield

Sniffle.

Sorry for losing him Rita. I really didn’t mean to! How are we gonna find him again?

If I got hurt? Nah, it’s fine. The snake got so scared when I was going to pet him that he bit me.

It stings a bit but it’s okay. I’m more upset that we’ll never find him again. I’m not sure he’s stupid enough to slither into the trap again. Sniffle.

The books?

You think we can use them to find out more about the snake and find out where he lives?

What a great idea Rita!! Can you help me look?

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOOOOUUUU! You’re the best!

Objectives: Help Freja find information about the runaway snake.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 25 with Sunfield Family

Answer questions about the snake’s appearance to determine what kind of snake it was that you had caught.

freja_sunfield

Yay! We solved it! He must have been a cliff cobra!

Quest completed

______________

To the Home of the Cliff Cobra

freja_sunfield

We didn’t find a new type of snake, it was a regular cliff cobra. It says here that the cliff cobra is very timid, which is probably why he was so afraid when I was trying to pet him.

Now we know where we can look for them again, near the Forgotten Fields. The snake we caught must’ve been a bit lost.

Come on Rita! Now we’ve got to hurry to the Forgotten Fields so that I can get the pictures I need for school. Since they’re so scared, it’s not a good idea to try to catch another one, so we should probably just take pictures instead.

Please come with me to the Forgotten Fields, Rita? Mom would never let me go all on my own. Please, please, please, please, PLEEEAAASE?!

Yay! To the Forgotten Fields!!

Objectives: Ride to the Forgotten Fields and meet Freja there.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: 35 with Sunfield Family

Meet Freja in Forgotten Fields, near the hill by the primeval tree.

freja_sunfield

Oh there you are! How slow can you be?!

Quest completed

______________

The Snake Photographer

freja_sunfield

I told mom and dad that you were coming with me to take photos for my homework. They even let me borrow their camera! Cool, huh?

I don’t know what the problem is, but I can’t seem to be able to take a single picture that isn’t shaky and blurred. Maybe I haven’t eaten enough today and feel a little unsteady. Could you take the pictures for me instead? Please, please, please, please, PLEEEEAAASE?!

YAAAAAY! Now we can take tons of great pictures!

Objectives: Take pictures of the cliff cobras and then talk to Freja.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 20 with Sunfield Family

Dismount your horse to use the camera, and take pictures of the three cobras that are hanging out nearby. Return to Freja when you have the pictures.

freja_sunfield

Wow, it’s warm! Are you hot?

Oh, nice? These pictures are lovely! I’ll have to show Casper when I get home!

Quest completed

______________

Who’ll Get Home First?

freja_sunfield

Yaaaaawwwwnnn.

I feel really tired… Come on, let’s head home. Casper’s probably wondering where I am.

Ugh, it’s such a long way home though.

I know! Let’s make it fun! I bet you and Summerblaze can’t make it back before me. I have a secret shortcut that you can’t ride along, but I bet I’ll get there before you! Shall we have a race?

I’ll count us in… Ready?

Objectives: Take Freja up on her challenge to see who can get back to the Sunfield Farm the fastest.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 40 XP, 75 Horse XP

Reputation: 35 with Sunfield Family

Follow the checkpoints to race back to the farm.

martina_sunfield

Hello Rita!

Where Freja is? Mmm, I haven’t got time for silly games. If everyone just messed around and played tricks all the time, nothing would ever get done.

Quest competed

______________

Where’s Freja?

martina_sunfield

Freja told me that you and her were going to take some photos for her homework, so I thought she’d still be with you…

You say she already went home?

Hmm, I suppose I’ll just try calling her, she’s got her phone with her. Then I’ve got to get back to work.

Hmm… No answer.

She’s probably found something fun along the way that’s distracting her. She loses focus pretty easily! Probably a bunny rabbit, a cat, or some other animal that’s caught her eye.

Can you ride out and see where she’s got to? When you find her, tell her to come home right away, it’s almost time for dinner.

Objectives: Look for Freja, she should be somewhere along the road between Sunfield Farm and the Forgotten Fields.

Rewards: 55 Jorvik Shillings, 45 XP

Reputation: 40 with Sunfield Family

Ride along the road and call for Freja at each of the checkpoints. Speak to her when you have found her sitting on the side of the road.

freja_sunfield

Rita…

I’m sorry. I got so tired and now I feel really sick. My head really hurts…

Quest completed

______________

Helping a Sick Girl Home

freja_sunfield

Sniffle.

I really don’t feel good Rita.

Sniffle.

I really tried to get home but as soon as I stood up, I got really dizzy and felt really sick.

(You feel Freja’s forehead and it feels like she’s running a high fever. You should help her home to Sunfield Farm.)

Objectives: Help Freja home, but ride carefully; she’s feeling really sick…

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Reputation: 35 with Sunfield Family

You have a danger bar for this quest. The faster you ride, the quicker the bar fills up. If the bar completely fills, you will have to restart the quest. To empty the bar, slow to a walk or stop completely.

Speak to Martina when you return to the Sunfield Farm.

martina_sunfield

Rita!! Oh my! What’s happened?!

Quest completed

______________

The Moonlighting Vet Doctor

martina_sunfield

Freja! Oh deary me, you’ve been in the wars, haven’t you? You’ve got a terrible fever!

Rita, I need to know everything that’s happened.

Right, so she’s just suddenly fallen sick, you say? This certainly doesn’t seem like a normal flu virus.

I’ll take care of her for now and make sure she gets some rest, and then we’ll call the vet in Jarlaheim and see if she can help. I know it sounds odd, but she’s actually really good at making animals AND humans feel better.

Would you ride off and talk to her?

Lovely. Off you go then!

Objectives: Talk to the vet in Jarlaheim about Freja’s condition.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 20 with Sunfield Family

Apparently in Jorvik a doctor is a doctor, no matter the practice…

dino_valley_vet

Hello there Rita! Welcome! How can I help you?

Quest completed

______________

What’s Wrong with Freja?

dino_valley_vet

What’s that, Martina sent you?

Oh! Freja’s sick?

You’re quite right, that most certainly does not sound like a regular cold…

Can you help me go through everything from the beginning? Together we’ll come up with what might be wrong with poor little Freja.

Objectives: Talk to the vet.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 20 with Sunfield Family

Recount to the vet everything that has happened today and describe the snake that bit her.

dino_valley_vet

This is completely obvious. The snake’s venom has started to work now. What a good fortune that you came so quickly.

Quest completed

______________

Cliff Cobra Calling Card

dino_valley_vet

Freja hasn’t been bitten by just any old cliff cobra, rather a Jorvegian cliff cobra. They’re venomous and it’s not a surprise Freja feels so sick. It’s very rare that anybody would be bitten by a snake under any circumstances, but as you said, Freja seems to have scared this little fella enough to bite when she tried to pet him. We can get this sorted though! Together we’ll Freja feeling better in no time at all.

While I was a Jorvik University, I learned how to produce anti-venom in case someone had been bitten by a venomous animal. I’ve got everything we need at home apart from the actual venom. The most effective way to make anti-venom is by using the venom itself, which might sound weird but that’s just the way it is.

Usually, we could just take venom from any old snake, but not in this case. The Jorvegian species of cliff cobra is unique is that each snake has a special ‘signature’ in its venom. This means we need to find the actual snake that bit Freja. Quite aside from that, it won’t do to have a venomous snake on the loose at the Sunfield Family farm!

My suggestion is that you capture the snake and bring it back to me.

Before you do that though, explain the situation to Martina. She’ll be worried sick, no doubt.

See you soon, okay?

Objectives: Tell Martina about Freja’s condition.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 20 with Sunfield Family

Return to Martina and tell her what the vet said.

martina_sunfield

How did it go, Rita? What did the vet say?

Quest completed

______________

Preparing for a Snake Hunt

martina_sunfield

Sigh. I thought I’d taught Freja not to pick up snakes any old how. What was she thinking? Trying to pet it as well! Whatever will I do with that girl?

Sigh.

But at least we know now what the problem is. It’s best she stays rested until the anti-venom is ready.

I agree with the vet that we should catch the snake, we can’t just have a venomous snake roaming around the farm. Would you be able to help us catch it, Rita?

Thanks! I don’t want you to be bitten as well, so if you help me find a net to catch it in, you’ll be able to use that and keep your distance.

Would you help me have a look for the net first?

Thanks ever so much Rita. I’ll look in the house if you check outside in the farmyard.

Objectives: Look for a net around the Sunfield Farm then talk to Martina.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 20 with Sunfield Family

The net can be found behind the wood cart, leaning up against the outside wall of the cow barn.

martina_sunfield

There it is! Good job finding it Rita!

Quest completed

______________

Snake Hunter

martina_sunfield

Now you’re equipped with the net, you should be able to catch the snake without being bitten.

This will probably be tricky. We don’t know where the snake is and since they’re so sly, they’re great at hiding. Look for it first, then catch it.

Good luck Rita!

Objectives: Find and capture the cliff cobra.

Rewards: 55 Jorvik Shillings, 45 XP

Reputation: 25 with Sunfield Family

This quest can be done on horseback but is most certainly easier to do on foot. This quest is challenging, do not get discouraged! (Took me three tries to get it.)

Click each area to search for the snake. While the bar fills for you to search, grab the net at the ready because as soon as you do find the snake, it will dart out from the hiding place. Chase after it, and use the net to catch it (hence having the net ready early, so you don’t have to fumble with grabbing it while also chasing the snake). Don’t let the snake get away or you will have to restart the quest.

When you have caught the snake, return to Martina.

martina_sunfield

You got it! Well done!

Quest completed

______________

Snake in a Bag!

martina_sunfield

Great job on catching the snake Rita! Feels good to know that nobody else is at risk of being bitten.

You’ll take the snake to the vet, right? It’ll be faster on horseback, and I really don’t want to leave Freja right now.

Thank you!

Objectives: Take the snake to the vet in Jarlaheim.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 20 with Sunfield Family

Snake in a bag, got a snake in a bag!

dino_valley_vet

Excellent, Rita! What a great job you’ve done on catching the snake. Now I can make the anti-venom for Freja.

Quest completed

______________

Freja’s Gonna Feel Better Soon

dino_valley_vet

There we go! Here’s the anti-venom for Freja.

I’ve written a little note for Martina so that she knows how much to give to Freja, and she’ll be back on her feet in no time!

I can take care of the snake from here and make sure he gets home, so you don’t need to worry about that. You’ve done more than enough good deeds for the day!

You wouldn’t mind taking the anti-venom back to Martina, would you?

Fantastic, thanks! Have a lovely day, and I’ll see you soon!

Objectives: Give the anti-venom to Martina.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 20 with Sunfield Family

Return with the anti-venom!

martina_sunfield

Is the anti-venom ready? I can give it to Freja right away! Thanks ever so much for getting it so quickly Rita.

Quest completed

______________

Hero of the Hour!

martina_sunfield

Both Filip and myself are so grateful to you for rescuing Freja! Since the snake isn’t around here anymore it’s nice to know we can relax.

Freja is feeling much better already and is up and about with the best of them! Me and Filip feel like you deserve a present for all the wonderful help you’ve given us and our daughter. Since she nagged so much about being the one to give you the present, it seems as though she wants to say thank you to herself.

I need to get some work done now, but go and talk to Freja!

Objectives: Talk to Freja.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP, Black Farm Dress

Reputation: 20 with Sunfield Family

Good to see you back on your feet, little girl!

freja_sunfield

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOOOUUU! I feel MUCH better now!

Mom said I should give you this present to say thank you for helping me. I hope you like it!

A New Girl at the Stable

loretta2

Hey, did you hear? I’m, like, dying here. Totes don’t understand what someone like THAT is even doing here. Believe me, she’s not a Bobcat. Like, she’s got NO style and as if that’s not enough, she’s like to totally worse than you when you got here. What a noob.

You dunno what I’m talking about? Seriously?! You haven’t heard? There’s this new girl visiting the stable. Thomas Moorland even asked Julie to lend her horse to her! Honestly! She’ll never get to ride my horse, she can forget it.

But hey, if she’s here to stay, I wanna know more about her. You need to get the lowdown on her to see if she’ll make a good Bobcat or not.

Why I can’t do it? Umm, really?! You’re the funniest. Of course I can’t talk to her, I need to make sure she’s worth my time first.

Listen, just ask the other Bobcats and see if they’ve heard anything, okay?

Objectives: Ask around and see if anyone knows anything about the new girl, then talk to Loretta.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 20 with Bobcats

Ask the other Bobcats what they know; the consensus seems to be the new girl is a nobody…

loretta2

What? Seriously?!

They must know more than I do. Wow, talk about out of touch.

Quest completed

______________

Time for a Welcome!

loretta2

Um, what? You think we should say hello to her?

I’ve obviously got more important things to do than take care of some loser noob.

You’ve got a point though, Thomas would probably want us to show her round and look after a bit, which is why it would be perfect if you did it. Thomas said that she can borrow Julie’s horse FireWind, so take her out riding or something.

Oh yeah, Rita, you probably don’t wanna mention any of this to Julie. She’s got a lot on her plate right now and what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her. If I know her like I think I do, she won’t be too happy about some newbie getting to ride FireWind.

Umm, hellooo?! What are you waiting for? Go say hello to the loser noob now!

Objectives: Say hey to the new girl.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Bobcats

Go give a warm Moorland welcome to the new girl. You can find her standing near the stable.

mandy

Aaaaah!

I’m not even doing anything, I’m just standing here.

Quest completed

______________

Off to a Bad Start

mandy

Uh, by the way, why should I have anything to worried about? It’s you who’s doing all the sneaking around! Have you got nothing better to do than spy on me?! Not that there’d be any reason to spy on me. No reason at all.

Ugh, now look! Since you scared me so much I dropped my bag and all the stuff has fallen out.

Aaaaaarrrrgggghhhh, it’s all your fault!

(Maybe you want to try helping the new girl pick up her stuff?)

Objectives: Help the new girl pick up her things, then try talking to her again.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 15 with Bobcats

Pick up the things that have fallen out of her little pink bag, then speak to her when you have collected everything.

mandy

Thanks.

Umm… Sorry I snapped at you like that. My bad.

Quest completed

______________

Starting Over

mandy

Umm, I’m sorry I got so angry like that. I didn’t mean to, it’s just that you really made me jump! It was mean of me, sorry again.

Wanna start over?

My name’s Mandy, and you?

Rita? Is that even a real name?

I mean, umm, how lovely! Nice to meet you.

Have you been here in Moorland long? This is my first time here, so I suppose it remains to be seen if I’ll have more visits in the future. You’re the girl Mr Moorland said would show me around?

Oh! Well that’s nice of you, and I’d love to come out with you for a ride! I wasn’t able to bring my own horse with me this time, but Mr Moorland said I could borrow a horse called FireWind?

Oh, and another thing… I’m afraid I left my saddle and bridle at home. I’ve got like all this awesome gear, like best quality ever, but there was so much other stuff I needed to bring with me that I totally forgot my gear!

Could you help me find some that I could borrow just this one time?

Objectives: Find some gear for Mandy.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 20 with Bobcats

Pick up the saddle and bridle that are on the ground (who just leaves their gear thrown on the ground??) in the stable, and return to Mandy.

mandy

You’re sure I can borrow these? Nobody will mind?

Thanks!

Quest completed

______________

The Girl Who Couldn’t Saddle

mandy

It’s really nice of you all to lend me this bridle and saddle.

Ohhh, saddle the horse myself, you say?

Umm… Yeah, I mean like, I obviously know how to saddle a horse, it’s not that. I’ve been saddling horses before I learned to walk, but it’s just that your saddles here on Jorvik are a bit different to those I have back home…

What kind of saddles do we have at home? Umm… What does that even matter? Don’t you believe me or something? They’re just different, okay? Which side is up and which is down? How should I attach it? Like this?

Umm… The bridle… That goes on the head, right?

Oh! You wanna show me how to do it? Thanks! You don’t need to tell anyone else about this though, yeah? I don’t want anybody thinking I’ve never been on a horse before, that would be crazy! Haha! Ha… Heh…

So, show me how to saddle FireWind.

Objectives: Help Mandy to saddle up FireWind.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 20 with Bobcats

Dismount your horse and help tack up FireWind, then speak to Mandy.

mandy

Nice, thanks! Thanks for the demonstration, I’ll remember your tips and get it right next time.

Quest completed

______________

Can You Get Up Without a Ladder?

mandy

Umm… Rita?

What’s the deal with actually getting up onto FireWind? He’s huge! Like, I’ll need a ladder or something to get up onto his back… How do you get up onto Summerblaze?

Haha no! Don’t be silly! You can’t possibly think I’ve never ridden a horse before hahaha! I have my own horse, like I told you! Haha! Ha… Heh.

Umm… Yeah, like my horse is super easy to get onto. He usually just bows down and I just step onto him really easily, just like usual.

Why are you looking at me like that? It’s true! I promise!

Help me up onto FireWind instead of just standing there. Please?

Objectives: Help Mandy up onto the horse.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputations: 15 with Bobcats

Bitch, that’s what stirrups are for, or do your different saddles not have those either…?

mandy

Wow, high! Went well at least.

Thanks for the help. I could do it myself of course, but I just don’t feel myself today for some reason.

Quest completed

______________

Feels Like I’ll Fall Off!

mandy

Umm, one more thing.

There must be something up with this saddle. It feels like I’m not sitting on it right. Should it really be like this?

What? What do you mean I’ve never ridden before? Of course I have! Ha… Haha…

Oh, how nice of you to check and see if it needs adjusting! Thanks!

Objectives: Check that the saddle is sitting correctly and tweak it if necessary.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Bobcats

I’m seriously starting to doubt this girl’s equestrian skills.

mandy

Thanks! Now I feel like I’m sitting better.

Quest completed

______________

Moorland Tour

mandy

It’ll be really fun to see more of Moorland. Thanks for taking me with you on this tour!

Hey, you should lead the way Rita! I don’t know anything about the area…

Objectives: Take Mandy out for a ride.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 25 with Bobcats

Stay close to Mandy while on your ride. If you let her get too far away, she will get lost and you will have to restart the quest.

Speak to her when you have finished your tour of Moorland.

mandy

Oh, wow! Just… Wow! There’s nothing back home that’s like what you guys have here.

Quest completed

______________

A Friendly Race

mandy

It’s so lovely here!

I’m jealous now, this is way nicer than it is back home…

Hey, off topic, how are the Bobcats? Do you know them well? You’re a Bobcat, right?

Hey, since I’m gonna be moving here I guess it wouldn’t hurt to know when everyone’s birthdays are, how old they are, and how their families look, right?

Haha, that’s not weird! I’m just curious! Umm… Haha, well forget what I said. Shall we race back to the stable? Last one back has to do the other’s stable chores for a month!

Objectives: Challenge each other to see who can get back to the stable first.

Rewards: 45 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP, 50 Horse XP

Reputation: 40 with Bobcats

Race Mandy back to the stable.

mandy

Yay me! Did you see how I rode on FireWind just then? I’m pretty awesome at riding, huh?

Well yeah, you’re also awesome but you get to ride every single day so it’s not fair to compare us two, is it?

Quest completed

______________

A Successful Tour

mandy

No way! Is it that late already?!

Thanks for the tour, but I need to get to Jorvik City, I’ve got tons to do there. I’ll catch up with you later though!

Umm… Obviously I know how to do everything with the saddle and bridle but now I’m really in a hurry, which means me not taking them off has got absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I don’t have a clue about how to take them off. No, no, no. Nope. No sir. Done it loads of times. Could do it in my sleep. Definitely. Haha. Ha. Heh…

For real? Nice! That’s really kind of you to offer to unsaddle FireWind for me.

I’ll take him to the stable while you go over and talk to that blonde girl, she seems to want you for something. Loretta’s her name, right?

Yeah, seeya later.

Objectives: Talk to Loretta.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Bobcats

Such a strange girl. Go and tell Loretta about her.

loretta2

Umm, helloooo?! I’m just standing here waiting for a report on this new girl and you’re running around the place with her like she’s your new BFF?!

Quest completed

______________

Take Care of FireWind and Tell Me About It!

loretta2

Helloooo? Details?! Come on, I wanna hear everything! What did she say? Is she a Bobcat or not?

Did she have a pair of Jollister shoes on?

Seriously? You think she’ll fit in here? She’s got one ugly style of riding, I’ll say that. That can be changed though, unlike a bad sense of style. If someone’s dressed like a nerd, then there’s no saving them.

What did she think of FireWind?

Of course she liked him! Have you guys unsaddled him by the way? You’re going to do it FOR her? Ooookay…

Well what are you doing standing here? Go and get him unsaddled.

Objectives: Unsaddle FireWind.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 20 with Bobcats

Find FireWind in the stable, dismount your horse, and use the stable gloves to unsaddle him. Then return to Loretta.

loretta2

Have you unsaddled FireWind? Great! Julie can take care of the grooming, it’s her horse after all. Now you need to tell me everything right now!

Quest completed

______________

Something’s Not Right…

loretta2

So I wanna hear everything. Tell me, what did you think of that girl? I think she’s totally weird.

I knew she wasn’t a proper rider!

You think we should give her a chance anyway? Pff, she’s a total liar, I can see it a mile off. Her shoes are probably not even real Jollister, they’re probably fakes.

Okay, okay. Just because it’s you, I’ll talk to the other girls and see whether we should give Where’s Weirdo a chance. Now, where’s my phone?

Sigh. Yo, Rita, could you just ride to the stable real quick and grab my green bag for e? Meh, yeah I knooooow! As if I would have a green bag, but my other one broke and I haven’t had time to get a new one.

Anyway, you’re the cutest if you go get it for me. I’m sure I left it just outside the stable.

Objectives: Find Loretta’s bag, which should be by the stable.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 20 with Bobcats

As you approach the stable, you see Mandy looking around suspiciously before she takes Loretta’s bag and runs away. Inspect the piece of paper that is left behind.

self

What’s Mandy doing with Loretta’s bag in the first place?

Quest completed

______________

Paper Trail

self

What’s this? A note?

Mandy must have dropped it when she ran off. It reads:

Loretta – maybe?
Tan – wrong birthday!
Julie – maybe?
Sophia – nope.

What could that mean?

Looks like Mandy dropped more notes as she hurried away. If you follow the trail of papers, maybe it’ll lead you to Mandy so you can confront her about this whole thing…

Objectives: Follow the paper trail left by Mandy.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 25 with Bobcats

Collect each piece of paper as you follow the trail until you find Mandy.

mandy

Why are you following me? What do you want? It’s not what it looks like!

Objectives: Confront Mandy.

mandy

Okay, okay, I’ll tell you everything.

______________

A Tale of Two Sisters

mandy

I don’t know if you’ve got any siblings. I don’t have any, anyway. When I was little I hoped that I might get a little brother or sister, but I never got one…

Both of my parents are only children as well, which means I never had any cousins either. Imagine how fun the families parties were! It was pretty much just me there… Boring.

With all that said, everything changed just a few months ago…

I learned that I actually have a half-sister! You’ve got no idea how happy it made me to find that out! My happiness was totally indescribable! Neither of my parents wanted to talk so much about it though, so they were just pretending that nothing happened and I thought I should also drop it, but how can I?

That’s why I decided to find some answers on my own and find my half-sister.

The only thing I really got to know was that she rides here at Moorland Stables. Apart from that I only know when her birthday is, how old she’s supposed to be, and a little bit about her family. More than that, I’m totally in the dark about who she is, how she looks, or what she’s called. This is all why I’ve been trying to get as much info as I can about the girls here at the stable, so I can work out which one of them is my sister!

Objectives: Listen to Mandy.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Bobcats

It all makes sense now… Though I wish she hadn’t lied about her riding experience. That was pretty low, if you ask me.

mandy

I’ve already been able to lose a couple of names from my list, but there’s a few left that I’m not sure about.

mandy

Now you know why I’ve been behaving so strangely. I’ve only been trying to work out which one of the girls in the stables is my half-sister.

You have to promise not to tell anyone! Promise me! I need to work out who it is first so that I can talk to her, I don’t want the whole stable finding out about it.

Really? You’ll help me? Thanks!

Hmm… This makes everything a little easier. Since the girls here in the stable know you, they might respond better if it’s you asking them the questions? With your help, I’ll find out who my half-sister is in no time at all!

The ones we need more information about are Loretta, Julie, and Stephanie.

Great! Take this notepad and jot down their answers when you talk to them!

Objectives: Talk to Loretta, Julie, and Stephanie to see which one of them could be Mandy’s sister.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 25 with Bobcats

Use the notepad on each of the girls to begin interviewing them. When you have enough information, return to Many by the inn at the stable.

mandy

Have you spoken to Loretta, Julie, and Stephanie?

Great! Did you find anything out?

But what on earth am I going to say? What if she doesn’t want a half-sister? What am I going to do then?

Thanks for offering to come with me when I talk to her, Rita, but this is something I need to do on my own.

Ohhhh, I’ve never been this nervous…

Objectives: Listen to Mandy.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Who Wouldn’t Want a Sister?

mandy

Sniffle.

It didn’t go well at all… I thought she might be happy to find out she had a sister… Sniffle.

I haven’t slept, I’ve just been crying all night… I was so desperately looking forward to having a sister.

Sniffle. Sob…

What happened? Well, sniffle… She looked completely stiff and told me I was lying. Sniff. She wasn’t happy at all.

Refusing to Stay

Anyway, no! I can’t just stand here crying. I’ve already decided to go back to Jorvik City and take the first flight out of here I can get. If Julie doesn’t want a sister, then she doesn’t need to be forced to have one. I’ll just head home and let her pretend I never existed…

Rita, there’s no reason for me to stay around here anymore. The only reason I came here was because I thought I might have a sister…

I can’t stay here anymore. I can hardly see through my tears, do you think you could help me pack? Sniffle.

Thanks. If you start folding these clothes, I’ll pick up the rest of the stuff from my room.

A Gift for My Sister

mandy

I just feel so empty. I never thought it would turn out like this. Maybe I was too naive.

Sniffle…

You don’t think I’m stupid? Aww, Rita, that’s nice of you… But hey, what did I expect? That it would be happily ever after? Obviously that stuff only ever happens in the movies. Sigh. Sniffle…

You think Julie might just need some time to process the news? Yeah… I dunno.

Look, I found this while I was getting my stuff together. It’s a present I brought with me to give to my sister, but yeah… I dunno what to do with it now.

You think I should give it to Julie anyway? Even though she doesn’t want a sister? Hmm… I don’t know Rita.

In that case I think you should give it to her. I just want to be away from here as quickly as possible. If you want to give it to her, it’d be nice if it was at least nicely wrapped…

Here’s some paper and ribbon so that it can be wrapped up nicely.

Objectives: Wrap the present then talk to Mandy.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Sniffle…

Thanks for everything Rita. I’m gonna get moving towards Fort Pinta now so I can take the bus to Jorvik City. I guess we won’t see each other again, so you take care of yourself and look after Summerblaze…

Of course! The present. You’re right, I think it’s just as well she gets it. If she doesn’t want it, it’s better she throws it away than me doing it.

If you feel like it, you could give it to Julie for me…?

Thanks so much, and good luck, okay?

I was just SO shocked! I could hardly believe it, it was like some reality TV show or something! Like, a really bad reality TV show, haha. As if anybody would be able to come up with that kind of thing, right?

Everything Mandy said was true?

Hmm, yeah. I’ve been awake all night thinking about it, and figured I should talk to Mandy again today about it. What? She’s already left? When’s she coming back?

NEVER?! Really?! Oh man, I mean… Ugh.

You have to stop her! If you ride fast enough, you’ll catch her up! You can tell her I’m sorry and say thank you for the gift!

Umm… Nah, it’s best I don’t come with you. It feels so weird. If she accepts my apology then she can get in touch with me whenever she likes. If not, you can always thank her for the present…

Wow! You were obviously right about how she must just have been in shock! I just jumped to conclusions, but it’s totally not strange that she reacted like she did, and I seem to have overreacted in just the same way…

In any case, thanks Rita. If you hadn’t come back, me and Julie would probably never have seen each other again.

I’ve already booked my tickets home, so I can’t stay now. I promise I’ll be back soon though and say hey to everyone!

Hey, y’know what? Take my contact info back to Julie so she can text me or add me on Pintasnap! I’m on there all the time! Kinda addicted to my phone, haha…

Thanks so much for all your help! Tell Julie from me that we’ll see each other soon!

Oh yeah, here you go! My number and stuff… Give it to Julie from me if you can! Thanks!

Objectives: Give the number to Julie.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP, 40 Horse XP

Suits You Better Than It Suits Me

julie

Whew! That’s a relief! She accepted my apology? Of course she did, duh. It was from me so of course it was amazing.

I suppose I should thank you for your help as well Rita. I guess it’s still really weird that I’ve suddenly got a half-sister… I’m definitely gonna get to know Mandy now that I’ve got her number and stuff.

By the way, promise not to say anything to anyone about this, but the present I got from her is so last season. I thought I was gonna drop dead when I opened it. Cute that she thought of me, but she totally needs a few fashion lessons. Luckily for her, she just got history’s most stylish sister…

If you want, you can have this instead of me. I guess it’s more your color than it is mine. There aren’t many colors that bring out the color of my eyes in the right way at the same time as making my hair look amazing.

This’ll suit you better than it suits me.

Objectives: Talk to Julie.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP, Mandy’s Short Sleeved Shirt

Reputation: 20 with Bobcats

Oh joy, more hand-me-down, cast-off clothes. Exciting…

julie

Naaaaahh, you don’t need to thank me, I already know I’m sooooo generous! I mean you’ve already helped me out with a whole bunch of stable junk so I guess we’re even now.

The Rider Games: Chapter Three “Little Swan”

$
0
0

Nightmares. Visions. Dreams of a twisted, terrifying kind. These are the things that occur every night, the things that pull me out of a sleepless haze, the things that terrify me more than anything in life.
Of course, they are always about the Games. What could scare me more? Every waking day is a nightmare in itself, oh, those dreary grey days in the training centre, reciting those endless speeches as practise for my interview, lying on my cushioned bed that I never would have had back home, wondering how I got here.
I try to work hard. I pull myself out of bed in the mornings, I train, I listen to Ellie’s rants and ignore Damon’s drinking and surly comments. I do everything I can to help myself, but it’s just not enough. I long to be back home, or do I? Even if, out of some small and miraculous chance I won the games, would the same person come out of the arena? I doubt it. Even if I did win, a killer would come out of the arena, not me, not Kat.
So I’m not insane yet. I haven’t let my situation get the better of me, yet. There’s this little thread of hope inside of me that I cling onto at all times, because even though it seems like it, I haven’t given up yet.
“Katalin Aideen! You are late, late, late! This messes up the whole day! Never in all my years have I seen such idleness!” This shrill call is what wakes me up each day. Reminds me I’m in this cruel world. “Coming..” I mutter, forcing myself out of bed and cursing Ellie under my breath. She knocks again. “I can see all your tricks, Katalin! Why oh why are you so, so..” I raise my eyebrows. “Deceptive? Cruel? Nasty?” I suggest. “Well Ellie, open up your eyes and see your surroundings. Am I still supposed to be jolly?”
Ellie frowns, then sighs. “Oh Katalin, just get dressed and come down for breakfast.”
I think she was attempting to be sympathetic, seriously. I went down anyway, it couldn’t really do any harm, and, if I was going to get my strength up, I might as well eat.
The breakfast table, as usual, is crammed with food. Eggs, waffles, bread, pancakes, jugs of milk and pots of tea, jam, croissants, butter, all sorts. Damon was gulping down coffee and scowling, as usual. “Right Catnip, get some food down you, we’ve got a busy day today.” I ignored his comment as I usually did, but filled my plate with hot buttered toast. “Today you’re going to meet your stylist.” Ellie told me brightly. “Am I?” I wanted to say, so badly that it hurt, but instead I just nodded briefly.
Great, I was already losing my spirit.
After breakfast, Ellie lead me through the many long, lingering hallways to find my stylist. I tried to picture them, perhaps silly and undermining, dressing me in the most flamboyant of clothes.
When we actually got there, I had pictured this stylist so vividly that the real person was disappointing. She was a tall, skinny woman with curly red hair and her dark eyes were outlined in black. Her lips were coated with black lipstick, but she didn’t seem all that intimidating. “Ah, so you’re Katalin?” She asked me, smiling. I nodded briefly. “Ok. I’ll take it from here Ellie. Toodles!” She gestured at Ellie to leave, smiling politely. Ellie seemed almost in awe. “I’m sure that isn’t.. Necessary. Well. I’ll let you both get on.” She said, sniffing a little and walking out.
The door slammed and instantly, my stylist changed tact. She loosened her bun so it was falling on her shoulders, shaking her head like a lion. Then she smiled and pushed me into a black chair. She assembled her tools (of torture) and opened her bag, bringing out a large mirror. I wondered how she fit it inside.
Firstly she stroked my straight black hair with a brush, teasing the strands gently. When it was tidy and she’d assessed every strand, this strange woman piled it up into an elegant bun, wrapping a white ribbon around it. I watched as I was transformed, as she applied smoky eyeshadow to my lids, lengthened my lashes, applied bright red lipstick to my lips.
Then it was onto my outfit. She rummaged in a large wardrobe and pulled out a beautiful black dress that puffed out at the skirt, and when I put it on, I have to say, I looked ok.
“Darling you look like a beautiful, elegant black swan!” My stylist told me, admiring my dress. I smiled wryly and patted the skirt of my dress. “Now for the shoes!” I widened my eyes in fear, thinking she was going to force me to clomp about in my interview with Ellie’s twelve inch stilettos. “Don’t worry,” She told me reassuringly, “they’re kitten heels.”
Indeed they were, but those black shoes with a small heel still looked daunting. I swallowed and pushed them on. I slowly stood up, taking the smallest step forward. It was ok, but I was still worried for the interview. “You’re going to be a star in no time, little swan.”

How right she was, just not quite in the way she expected.

_______________________________________________________

“No you idiot, you’ve got to be charming. Or is that too hard for you?” Damon flung up his arms in a wild frenzy. “Perhaps you need to just play a different character.” Ellie compromised, perched on the edge of the mauve sofa. “Different character! We’ve tried funny, moody, brooding, sexy, charming, cheerful, everything, and no results. She’s about as characteristic as a piece of tarmac. I’m off.” Damon yelled, gulping from a flask and then storming off, giving me a last look of disgust. “Wait, Damon!” Ellie trotted after him, walking awkwardly because of her high heels. I sighed and lay on the sofa, rubbing my forehead. “Why don’t you try again, but this time, being yourself?” Came a sudden voice. I recognized it. My stylist, Luna. “I doubt it’ll work. Apparently Damon compares me to a piece of tarmac, personality wise.” I say, opening my eyes. “Listen to me. You have plenty of personality, let’s be honest- Damon is just a grump. Don’t believe what he says. Well, a majority of it.” Luna tells me, sitting down next to me. I sat up and sighed. “Ok, shall we practise?” She smiled, giving a small wink. “You bet.”
So we practised, practised and practised, and, eventually, a new me dredged itself up to the surface. A true me, a confident me. I had a little hope for the interview now.
For some reason, I enjoyed training. Maybe because it wasn’t too hard, maybe because I talked to the boy a lot. I still didn’t know his name. We talked about a lot, our past, what we want our future to be like, but of course, we always avoided the ghastly subject of the terrifying present.
More than a few times I just gazed at him, trying to work out who he is. “Hey Kat, do you know how to um.. Do this knot?” He usually asked me, breaking the haze and bringing me back to the reality. “Oh yeah.” I would almost certainly reply, tying the knot as a demonstration.
Sometimes I would catch him staring at me, his green eyes locked on mine. Sometimes I would feel as if our surrounding didn’t exist, as if it was just him and me that existed. I’d never felt this way before, not even with Matt. I should have felt guilty, but for some reason, I didn’t. I was probably going to die in a few weeks, so why couldn’t I be allowed to feel this way?

“You know,” he said one day, “If.. If you survive this, Kat, will you promise to go back to my family? Protect them? I guess it’s my dying wish.” I placed a hand on his shoulder. “Who says you’re not gonna win? You’re just as good as the rest of us. Yeah, if anyone should be making death wishes, it’s me.” I said, smiling dryly. He widened his eyes. “What? Kat, are you kidding me? I’m gonna die on the first day, I’m pathetic compared to the rest of us. I wrap birthday presents for a living, for god’s sake!” He said, a sudden rage in his eyes that I’d never seen before. Before I could reply, Ellie walked over to me. “Oh darling, darling, who is this?” She asked me in a high pitched tone, pointing at him. “He’s my friend.” I said quickly. Ellie looked him up and down, then frowned. “No, no, no! Absolutely not! Follow me now to the dining room Katalin, we shall discuss this.” Ellie told me sternly, not even saying why. The boy shrugged. “Just go Kat. See you next time- as a grave.” Then he walked off.
Ellie lead me to the dining room, and, when we got there, Ellie whispered to Damon and Luna in a hushed tone, before sitting me down on a seat. “Katalin. We forbid you to talk to that boy again.” She told me, fear in her eyes. “What? Why?!”
Damon glared at me, then spoke in a stern, moody tone. “Because he’s on the other side you fool. He’s a bad guy!” I raised my eyebrows, watching as Damon turned purple. “He’s a dark rider you dunce! You’re being trained to kill his kind, not have little girly chats!”
I took a deep breath and spoke calmly. “Well, I’m going to die soon anyway, so why can’t I make a friend before I do?” There was a clatter as Ellie dropped her cutlery, her mouth a wide ‘o’ of shock. “Katalin! Don’t say things like that!” Damon stared at me with a long, lingering glare. “Going to die! We’ve been training you to live, you damn fool! I’m sick and tired of you messing around, moaning to that boy, someone you’re supposed to kill!”
I expected him to stop there, but he continued ranting, purple in the face. “You think he’s so perfect, like he trusts you, but he’s just using you to know your tactics so he can turn on you in the arena!”
“I should have known you were stupid enough to trust him, hang about like a loony when anyone with any sense would be preparing for the arena!” Finally Ellie lost it. “Damon! Stop being like this! Katalin is working very hard, and of course she’s upset, she may die and she’s just left her home and family! She’s talking to that boy because he feels the same as her, and I don’t blame her for making a friendship! Go back to your whisky, Damon.”
I stared at Ellie in shock- and even Damon looked bewildered. He muttered something under his breath and walked out of the room, clutching his bottle of drink.
Ellie smiled at me. “That was amazing, thanks.” I said gratefully.
“No problem Katalin, he just went way too far this time.” She smirks, patting her wig. She nods one last time before leaving the room. I walk down the halls to find my stylist and prepare for the interview.

I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter xx

Guardian Angel – Chapter 11: Bad News

$

0

It’s 4 in the morning when Rachel shakes me awake, yelling something I can’t understand through my sleepiness. She pulls me into the living room of the hotel room and has me sit on the couch.

“Jamie, you’re in serious danger,” she says.

I yawn. Though I didn’t expect that I could be in any worse danger than I already was, it’s not really a surprise, what with everything that’s been going on lately.

“Look, the Keepers and restless about this. You’re not supposed to be here, and they can’t figure out why you are. Are you listening?” She’s talking so fast that I could hardly understand her even if I wasn’t half asleep. I wave her on. “Well, they’re afraid. For themselves and for you. If you fail, this could mean an endless loop of you doing this over and over. When that happens, it sets a closed gap in time, and people will be reliving the same moments over and over. They won’t know it, of course, but it will become a problem, as you can imagine. So the Keepers are debating whether or not to just…end this. You have to help them make that choice. I know this is hard, but…if you fail, it means the possible ruin of the human world. If they…stop the mission, the living you will die but not come back as a Guardian.”

“But what if I succeed?”

Rachel is quiet for a moment.

“Well…I’ve been thinking about that a lot,” she says, so softly I can hardly make out her words. “I think that if you save your living self, you’ll live gain. The problem is, Ms. Ashton and Chase will be looking for you, and if you live again…you’ll have no memories of this because to the living you this never happened because the living you never died if you succeed. Get it?”

I sigh. “Not really. Anyway, you’re asking me to let them kill me because they think I’ll fail?”

She’s quiet again. I know this must be hard for her, because we’re not only partners in this adventure, but also good friends. But there’s a lot at stake here, and it’s all because I was dropped into the wrong time zone.

The wrong time zone.

“Wait! The Keepers dropped me here. If they can kill me and abort the mission, that means they can pick me up and put me somewhere else, doesn’t it?!”

“Not exactly….” Rachel takes my hand. “Jamie, there’s something…different about you. I can’t put my finger on it, and neither can the Keepers, but there’s something. You were meant to have your mission ninety human years from now, which isn’t long for me, because when I’m done with a mission, I wipe the memories of me out of the humans I was around and go back to the Keepers until my next mission. But when you died, something within you bent time and brought you here. It wasn’t supposed to happen. The Keepers have tried removing you like they remove me, but it didn’t work. Since the living you is still, well, living, you have a tie to this time. To remove this you would be to kill the living you. But if they kill this you…the living you wouldn’t be affected.”

“You need to give me a book on all this time-travel stuff,” I say. My head is spinning and I can’t really process the information. There’s so much of it. But I do understand that failure means disaster.

I look up at Rachel.

“I’m still in. I just won’t fail.”

The Road to Epona

herman

Hi Rita! Great you could make it here so quickly.

I’ve got wonderful news!

Remember the report Ms Drake gave me before? Exactly, the one she asked you to put in the mail but you gave it to me instead. I’ve read it all, more times than I can count! And… Well…

Hang on, let me just gather myself a moment. One shouldn’t stress when there are important things to talk about. I put some water on to boil for tea earlier. A cup of tea is just the thing for discussing things as important as this!

I think the water’s boiling, could you take it off the heat Rita?

I’ll get my thoughts together while you do that.

Objectives: Take the pot of boiling water off the heat, then talk to Herman again.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Jorvik Stables

Let’s make some tea!

herman

Thanks Rita! Now the water can just rest a little and cool down, then we can make a nice cup of tea for us both.

Right, yes, as I was saying. I’ve read Ms Drake’s report, the one you gave me before, and if I’m completely honest I don’t actually understand very much of it.

You see, nothing’s written in plain language. Codes here, references to other documents there, and vague concepts everywhere.

But what’s completely clear is that something big and unbelievable dangerous is on the go. There are references to something called “Operation Grim Harvest.” There are spreadsheets with entries like “industrial harvest equipment,” “aggressive damage claims,” and “demolition estimates for a city the size of Jarlaheim.” There are forms that mention hiring “heavily equipped external security consultants…” It just goes on and on.

You can hear for yourself Rita, it sounds like G.E.D. are planning something truly terrible. Thing is, there’s nothing that even comes close to evidence in the report, certainly nothing that G.E.D.’s army of lawyers can’t explain away or interpret as something that’s completely within the law.

I’m sorry Rita, but G.E.D. are good. Too good. There’s nothing in this report I could use to stop them.

Don’t look so sad though Rita! Haha!

Just because I don’t understand the report, doesn’t mean that it can’t be used by someone else!

I’ve sent copies to friends around Jorvik, and I’ve had an answer back from some of them. More particularly, from just the person I was hoping to hear from. This is why I’m so happy! Jorvik’s leading warrior in the fight against G.E.D. as been in touch.

The person I’m talking about is the leader of CHILL, a secret organization who are doing all they can to throw nails in the road for G.E.D.

I’ve never met her before, I don’t know what she looks like, and I don’t know where she lives. I only know her name.

Of course I’m talking about Mrs X. Have you heard of her?

A few days ago, a letter arrived from Mrs X. She wrote that G.E.D.’s report confirmed her suspicions of what G.E.D. are up to in the Harvest Counties. She didn’t want to say anything more in the letter — “safety first!” as she wrote — but if I meet her, she’s promised to tell me more face to face. After that, she’s certain we’ll be able to stop G.E.D. once and for all.

This could be exactly the kind of good news we needed Rita! I must meet her as soon as possible.

She did however have two demands. I need to go to the meeting place alone, and I’m absolutely not allowed to tell anyone about where we’re meeting, not even you Rita. The problem is getting there, because the meeting place is in Epona. Do you know where that is?

Exactly, it’s the area on the other side of the gates near Greendale. Unfortunately, there’s only one way there and it goes through Harald Stormheart’s land. The gates there have been locked for years, and I’ve got no idea how I’d get past. Harald is a very old friend of mine, he’d help us as much as he could, I’m sure of it. Thing is, I can’t talk to him if I can’t get through those gates.

Or, well, of course I mean “we.” I can’t do this by myself, I need help. It’ll be a dangerous journey, certainly not something an old fella like me can handle alone.

So I suppose my question is, will you come with me to Epona, Rita?

Great! Great news! I knew I could count on you. I’ve promised Mrs X that I wouldn’t say  word to anyone about the meeting place, but right up until we get close, we travel together, okay?

Super! I’ve been working on an idea and I’ll tell you about it…

But surely the tea is ready by now. Could you fetch us both a cup?

Objectives: Bring two teacups to Herman.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP, Cup of Tea

Reputation: 5 with Jorvik Stables

Pick up the two cups on the counter next to Herman to bring him the tea.

herman

Ahh, thanks for the tea, Rita. It’s a lovely cuppa.

Yes, of course! My idea. Now, listen up.

There’s a secret pathway that goes over the Greydew Mountains. Not a lot of people know that, but it’s been used by soldiers, refugees, and smugglers all throughout history. If I just knew where it was, we’d be able to use it to get ourselves over to Epona. What do you think to that plan Rita?

You wonder how we’ll find out where it is? I don’t suppose it’ll be very easy, but with a little help from our friends, I’m sure it’ll work out. You see, two of the families around here know the secrets of this hidden pathway. We need their help, and if there’s anyone who can get them to help us out, it’s you Rita.

I’ll start making preparations for our trip and try to get hold of all the information I can find about Epona. In the meantime, you get going on finding out where exactly this secret pathway over the Greydew Mountains is. Does that sound like a plan?

Guardians of the Secret Path

The Goldspur family are one of the two families who guard the secrets of the hidden path over the Greydew Mountains. They know where it starts, and without knowing that, we’re not really going to get very far.

Talk to Jakob Goldspur and explain the situation to him. He might be a little suspicious, but if he feels as though he can trust you, I’m sure he’ll give you some info.

Ride out to the Goldspur Mill and speak to old man Jakob.

jakob_goldspur

Hello there! How can I help you?

You want to find a secret pathway over the Greydew Mountains? What makes you think an old man like me would know anything about something like that?

Quest completed

______________

A Double Obstacle Ahead…

jakob_goldspur

So, you want me to tell you where the secret pathway over the Greydew Mountains begins?

Hmm… Okay. I’ll tell you, but I don’t think you’re going to like what I have to say.

It all began when my dad had an idea. The location of the start of the path was written down on a piece of paper, but he thought that was far too unsafe. He knew a druid in Valedale and with his help he created what he thought was a much better solution: a magic compass.

The compass shows the way to where the path begins, but only if the person using it knows the secret phrases which activate the magic in the old stones guarding the way. Incredibly clever, and a bit more robust than just a little slip of paper. The secret phrases are taught to everyone in our family when we’re kids, but the compass is always looked after by the oldest member of the family. This means that at the moment, the compass is held by me.

Unfortunately though, the compass is gone. Well. Not gone exactly, but it’s a little out of reach right now…

Why is it out of reach?

Umm… That’s not really something I want to talk about. Don’t look so angry, Rita!

Okay, okay, I’ll tell you but you have to promise not to laugh.

Hannibal and Alexander were allowed to borrow it from me a few weeks ago. I thought they’d think it was nice to look at, but they obviously had other ideas. I should’ve known it was a bad idea. Sigh.

They hid it, and then thought it was funny that I should have to look for it. Lots of fun. Hmm. But, before they got to tell me their plan, Idun shouted that it was time for dinner, and you don’t want to keep Idun waiting. They of course ran inside and promptly forgot where they’d hidden it.

I’ve looked and looked and it’s nowhere to be found… They must’ve hidden the compass in quite excellent hiding place, or well at least it’s far too tricky for me anyway. Plus, it’s been decades since anybody’s needed to know anything about the secret path, so I assumed I wasn’t against the clock when it came to finding the compass.

You might have a little more luck than me, Rita. Ask the twins if they can remember where they hid the compass, and perhaps they’ll recall if it’s you who’s asking…

Objectives: Talk to Hannibal Goldspur.

Haha, if they want sweeties, then they’ll get them. Specially prepared Angus-candy.

Rita, in the fields around here on our land there’s loads of gunpowder pepper growing. It’s a flower that’s very, very spicy. Completely harmless and great for giving a little kick to some of the simpler meals, but it’s not something you’d exactly call candy. Hehehe…

Grab a few handfuls of gunpowder pepper and the twins can get a taste of candy they’ll not soon forget!

Haha!

The compass?

Oh, nah. No idea where it is… We hid it really well somewhere around here in the farmyard. So well hidden that we can’t even find it now. Haha!

If I can remember anything?

Umm… I think it was somewhere high up. Now I remember! It was in one of the silos!

You’ll have to go look for it yourself though, we’ve got to go and pick gunpowder pepper of our own! Thank dad for the tip! Haha!

First though, I’ll show you how the compass works.

______________

With the Help of the Compass, We’ll Find the Way

jakob_goldspur

So, here’s how the compass works, Rita.

Take out the compass and say the magic words, “O, Golden Compass, hear our plea, Goldspur’s guardians beg of thee: tell where the secret path may be.”

It’s a bit over the top if you ask me, but my dad liked a little bit of the theatrical and he’s the one who came up with the wording, so I guess that’s how it’s got to be.

Oh well, when you’ve said the magic words, the needle on the compass will point to the direction in which you’ve got to ride to get to a magic milestone. When you reach the stone, place the compass on it and say the next magic phrase, “O, Golden Compass, the way you’ve shown, led Goldspur’s guardians to this magic stone.”

The compass will then show you the way to the next magic milestone, and then you do the same thing again. Continue doing it until you get to the beginning of the secret path.

I don’t know quite why the compass can’t just show you where the path is in the first place, but dad was pretty special like that.

Do you understand how the magic compass works now?

Good!

Best of luck to you!

Objectives: The compass is shown on the map, down to the right of your screen. Follow the direction it’s showing until you get to your target, then use the compass there.

The Jarlassons have been guarding the secrets of the path’s traps for generations. If you can get Dorith Jarlasson to understand why it’s so important for you to use the path, then I’m sure she’ll tell you about the traps. Talk to Dorith Jarlasson and explain the situation to her.

Now to begin the second part of preparation.

dorith_jarlasson

Hello, dear Rita! How can I help you on this beautiful day?

You want to know how to avoid the traps along the secret pathway over the Greydew Mountains?

That’s one of our family’s oldest and most closely guarded secrets. Are you sure I can trust you not to tell anyone?

Quest completed

______________

An Extremely Valuable Document

dorith_jarlasson

So, you’d like to know how to get across the Greydew Mountains. As you’ve probably already gathered, there’s a secret pathway over the mountains, which is, just as it sounds, secret.

The Goldspur family knows where the path is, and my family knows how to get past the lethal traps that are designed to stop the path being used by the enemies of the Harvest Counties.

I understand it’s important for you to get to Epona, so I’ll help you as much as I can. The information you’re after is written in the Jarlasson Code, an old document that’s been handed down through generations, but unfortunately it’s no longer in our possession. Don’t look so horrified! It’s in good hands, which is probably just as well. It does  mean though, that I can’t just give it to you, you’ll have to ask Jill Goldspur for permission to borrow it.

You see, we donated the code – along with a collections of other old items – to Jarlaheim. We didn’t have the money to look after all our old antiquities properly, and we were worried that they would eventually be destroyed, so we donated them to the city so that they would be looked after properly by trained experts and studied by Jorvegian researchers. I know that the Jarlasson Code is in the cellar of the courthouse and it’s kept in a special room with the perfect temperature and humidity. It’s incredibly highly valued, but I’m sure that Jill Goldspur would lend it to you considering everything you’ve done for Jarlaheim.

Say hello to Jill from me and come back once you’ve got the Jarlasson Code.

Objectives: Talk to Jill Goldspur.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 20 with The Jarlasson Family

Ride to Jarlaheim and speak to Jill near the city courthouse.

jill_goldspur

You’re wondering if you could borrow a document from the courthouse’s library? It’s not something we’d usually allow, but since it’s you, we might be able to make an exception… Which document are you thinking about?

The Jarlasson Code? The unsolved code that used to belong to the Jarlasson Family? Are you aware that this is one of the most priceless documents we own? It’s out of the question!

Handled by Experts

jill_goldspur

I’m sorry Rita, but historical documents need to be handled by trained antiques experts. It’s entirely out of the question that you’d get to handle it yourself.

Perhaps my dumbo brother would let you into the library, but as luck would have it, he’s disappeared.

Typical…

I asked him to sign off on a whole bunch of important paperwork that needs to be sent away by tomorrow morning at the latest. If you see him anywhere, you could tell him to hurry up.

Objectives: Look for Jack Goldspur.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 15 with Jarlaheim

He can be found on the ramp up to the wall behind the courthouse building.

jack_goldspur

Yo yo yo, Rita! How’s it hangin’? You’ve seen Jill? I’m trying to stay out of her way since she’s trying to get me to work. Ever heard anything so awful? Haha!

You wanna go in there and Jill wouldn’t let you?

Okay, of course I’ll let you in there buddy! Maybe you could help me with something first though, yeah? You will? Sweeeeet!

All these dullsville papers, yeah? Jill’s gonna be crazy angry if I don’t sign them. Could you fix that up for me? Pleeeeease?! I promise I’ll let you into the library if you help me avoid her coming in her with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp… You’ll help me?! Radical!!

It’s apparently important for my image to get out there and meet the people, and I agree! Who wouldn’t want to meet a legend like me?!

But I haven’t got time. I’ve got tons of important stuff to be doing, like, y’know, mayor stuff. Maybe you’d do it for me?

You can?

Help Herman Pack

We need to get going as soon as possible Rita. I just need to get a few final things together before we leave. Gosh, it’s a lot to take care of, would you mind helping?

Thanks! It’s been a while since I’ve made a journey like this one, and the Greydew Mountains are known for their ‘unwelcoming’ weather. Once we get down from the mountains though, we’ll be in between the two rivers that run through Epona, Full Moon Water, and the Epona River. It’s always warm there, since the water in the rivers comes from a hot spring deep inside the mountain. It’s this heat that makes the air and water much warmer than usual.

So yes, a trip where you have to change out of your winter coat and into your swim shorts every five minutes isn’t the easiest journey to pack for. Haha!

Rita, would you mind getting my winter clothes and swim shorts for me? I did the laundry yesterday, and it’s still all hanging out to dry, since I forgot to take it down and put it away.

I feel twenty years younger, Rita! This is going to be tremendous fun. First, we need to get past all those traps on the secret path. I’ll check the map while you ride, and I’ll warn you if you’re getting too close to a trap.

Take it easy, Rita, but not too easy. Mrs X is waiting for us in Epona, and we have to meet her as soon as possible. Soon enough G.E.D. will get what they justly deserve!

Come on Rita! Let’s go!

Objectives: Ride along the secret path over the Greydew Mountains, and look out for the traps!

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 40 XP

Reputation: 50 with Jorvik Stables

Click on the sparkles to enter the beginning of the path. It is not a race so you can take your time. This quest is difficult! If you get hit with a trap, you will have to begin the quest again.

The first two traps are falling trees and rocks off the cliff above you. Stop to let the danger fall and settle, then ride on.

The next trap is a gigantic rolling boulder. You have two options to avoid this one. Herman tells you to run out onto the cliff and stop. If you choose to do that, run as soon as he tells you, out onto the grassy outcrop and the boulder will roll behind you. You can also stop as soon as he tells you to run, stay on the hill, and the boulder will roll past in front of you. Once the boulder is gone, you can continue on.

There are several breaks in the cliff edge you will have to jump over.

The last traps is two sets of geysers that explode in order down the line. These traps repeat, so you will have to time your run past each geyser, then wait for the next to blow before continuing on.

Herman will announce when you have made it past all of the traps on the path. Ride down into the G.E.D. site until a guard stops you and a bulldozer parks behind you, blocking your retreat back onto the path.

This isn’t good, Rita. If they catch us, we’ll never get to know the information Mrs X holds, and we’ll never be able to stop G.E.D.!

Rita, listen carefully now. We’ll never get out of here together.

Do you understand? Ride, Rita. I’ll stay behind.

I know it’s not perfect, but it’s the only way. They’d catch up with me before I’d had a chance to take ten steps, but I’ve seen you ride. You’re the finest rider I’ve ever seen.

You’re the only one who can do this.

I’ll stop the guard so you can escape. You’ve got to do what we came to do now. You’ve GOT to find Mrs X.

Go now Rita, it’s time. Ride to Stormgarden and tell Harald Stormheart what’s happening.

There’s no more time, the guard’s coming! Go Rita, go! Find Mrs X!

The Gates on the Road to Jarlaheim

harald_stormheart

Herman is in G.E.D.’s custody… This is terrible. If we’re lucky, they’ll have reported him to the police for trespassing, but I’m not so sure… They know Herman wants them out of the Harvest Counties, and I think they might take this opportunity to make sure he won’t be able to work against them anymore.

Sigh.

I don’t know what I can do to get him free… But wait, what were you doing on G.E.D.’s land anyway?

Herman was on his way to meet Mrs X?

Hmm… I’ve heard a fair amount about her, but I’ve stayed out of the fight between her and G.E.D.

But if there’s anyone who can save Herman from the clutches of G.E.D., it’s Mrs X. I’m going to do everything I can to help you find her.

First though, I’ve kept myself locked in here on this land for long enough.

I locked my gates so that G.E.D. wouldn’t be able to get onto my land but they just went right ahead and built up their enterprise up on the mountain instead. It doesn’t matter how much I try to hide, G.E.D. just does whatever they want anyway. Now they’ve crossed the line. Kidnapping Herman?! They’ve crossed the line…

G.E.D. has to be stopped.

I’m going to need all the help I can get. There’s no point staying hidden away in here anymore, and if someone from Jarlaheim wants to come and help, then they’re welcome.

Rita, go at once and unlock the gate on the road between my land and Jarlaheim. The code is 1234.

Come back to me once it’s done and we can think about how I can help you out.

A Village by the River

harald_stormheart

I wish I had some wonderful idea about how you could save Herman from G.E.D., but I can’t think of anything right now. I’ll think and think until my head aches, but I can’t make any promises. Mrs X has the best chance of saving Herman.

Unfortunately, I’ve got new idea of how you’d get hold of her… I don’t know much of anything about her to be honest. Only that she’s incredibly brave, intelligent, and the leader of CHILL.

CHILL is incredibly secretive, so getting in touch with their leader is no small task.

There’s one person who might now… Pamela Moonriver. She lives in Crescent Moon Village down by the Full Moon River, the river running to the south. She’s openly associated with CHILL, which makes her a brave woman if I ever knew one. If you let her know what’s going on, then maybe she can help you.

My daughter Tatiana is good friends with Pamela, so she’ll be able to help you get in touch with her. Talk to Tatiana.

But if you want to get to Crescent Moon Village, you’ll need to unlock the gate here by me first. There’s a combination lock on the gate, and I can’t remember the code for the life of me. The gate is exactly the same as the one on the road to Jarlaheim, but the code. Nope. It’s been so long since anyone wanted to open it.

Hmm, I’m sure I had a really good system for remembering the code, hang on… How did it go?

Yes! There are four numbers in the code, and the numbers in the code are the same as the number of legs on different animals…

The animals were a bear, a horse, a human, and an ant.

Do you understand? You look unsure, but you’ll get it Rita! Come back if you need more help.

Good luck in Crescent Moon Village!

Your friend Herman was captured by G.E.D., you say? Hmm… I’ve heard of Herman. Seems like a good chap.

You seem like a decent person, and if Harald and Tatiana trust you, then I’m sure I’ll be able to as well.

First, some advice. Be very careful talking about Mrs X and CHILL around these parts. You never know who might be listening…

I’ll ask around, perhaps I know someone who knows where to find Mrs X. I hope you don’t mind me saying, but I’ll also ask around a little bit about you Rita, just to see if I can’t find out a little more about you. Safety first, you know.

That said, it’s going to take me a little while to get in touch with my contacts. Come back tomorrow and I’ll let you know how I’m getting on.

No? You’re sure? It’s an innovative dish, a timeless tribute to Jorvik’s most undervalued stones…

Ah well, maybe another time. What can I help you with then? You want to unlock the gate on the road between Wolf Hall Inn and the Eastern Slopes?

Well of course I can help you! It’s fiendishly simple of course, just put the code into the lock!

Now let me see, the code… Code, code, code… Nope. Totally forgot the code Rita. I’ve written it down somewhere though, but I’ve no idea where, truth be told. Haha! Jorvik’s Leaders in the Resistance

pamela_moonriver

Hello there Rita. I’ve spoken to a few of my contacts, and you seem as though you’re pretty trustworthy, so I’ll help you as much as I can. You want to actually MEET Mrs X if I understood you correctly?

Do you even know who Mrs X is?

Not many people do, but Mrs X is the leader of CHILL. CHILL are Jorvik’s leaders in the resistance against G.E.D. I support them in as many ways as I can, but they’re incredibly secretive, so my contributions to their fight are only ever rather small. Whenever they need my help, I always step up.

I’ve only ever met Mrs X once before, and we only exchanged a few words. She knocked on my door in the middle of the night one time… She was being chased by G.E.D.’s guards and she needed somewhere to lay low. I offered her a bed and didn’t ask questions. When I woke up the next morning, she was on her way out of my front door. She told me that if I ever I needed CHILL’s help anytime that I should go to New Hillcrest and ask for…

Wait. What was that? Did you hear that? Someone’s coming…

Ugh, dash it! It’s Junior Buttergood. Not a single word to him about Mrs X or CHILL, Rita. Not a peep!

Hrmm.

Morning Junior! How lovely you’ve dropped by! This is my friend Rita, have you two met before?

Objectives: Talk to Junior Buttergood.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 10 with Crescent Moon Village

In stomps Mr Grumpypants, hello to you too.

junior_buttergood

Rita?! What kind of name is that?!

Listen Rita, we don’t much like outsiders here in Epona, so I reckon you’d better buzz off back to wherever you came from. And be quick about it!

Snort!

Pamela, where’s my honey? If I don’t get it today, then I’m not going to make your life easy.

Quest completed

______________

The Best Honey in Epona

junior_buttergood

Now, Pamela. The honey. Where is it?!

You know fine well that the only thing that makes my daddy happy is to drink tea with your honey stirred in. Your honey is the best in all Epona, and that’s the only reason I buy it from you.

That said, if you can’t deliver the honey, then I just won’t buy it from you anymore, I’ll take my money elsewhere. It doesn’t matter what daddy says, I say you’ve got to shape up and get me my honey.

I’ll expect a delivery of honey to Butter Hill today.

Snort.

Objectives: Talk to Pamela Moonriver.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Crescent Moon Village

Well then, entitled bastard much, are we?

pamela_moonriver

Sigh.

That was Junior Buttergood, the head of the Buttergood family. An absolute cretin, but he’s the most powerful man in the region and he knows how to throw his weight around.

Everyone around here is scared of him, even me. He’s best buddies with all those G.E.D. types as well.

Ah well, I make my honey to make people happy, and if it can give someone a tiny bit of extra joy, then I guess I’ve done a good thing. Even if that person is Valdemar Buttergood.

Who’s Valdemar? He’s the eldest of the Buttergoods, he must be over a hundred now… A more evil soul you couldn’t hope to find, but since he suffered a stroke ten years ago, Junior’s been running the family. It might be hard to believe, but compared to Valdemar, Junior’s a real little ray of sunshine.

Quest completed

______________

Good People in a Bad Family

pamela_moonriver

Rita, might you be able to help me get some honey to Junior Buttergood? I think we can use this delivery as an opportunity to get closer to Mrs X.

Let me explain.

A lot of the Buttergood family are absolutely wretched, I mean you’ve met Junior, but honestly… In comparison to the rest of his family, he’s an absolute angel. Luckily there are some good people in that bad family. Robert Buttergood is one of the best people I’ve ever met. Decent and respectable, friendly, brave, and a member of CHILL.

Exactly! Junior’s little brother is on our side. Just think if Junior found out, Rita, he’d be pretty surprised to say the least! Haha!

But of course it’s a secret. You mustn’t tell a soul, you understand that, right? Good!

You need to talk to Robert Buttergood. It was him that Mrs X told me to get in touch with if I ever needed CHILL’s help, so it’ll be perfect if you deliver the honey to Butter Hill.

Get the honey from the beehives and I’ll get some jars together in the meantime.

Objectives: Collect honey from the beehives next to Pamela Moonriver’s house.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 15 with Crescent Moon Village

Dismount your horse to use the jar. Return to Pamela when you have collected honey from each of the beehives.

pamela_moonriver

You got some honey, Rita?

Ah, perfect! The bees didn’t sting you, did they?

Quest completed

______________

A Meeting on Butter Hill

pamela_moonriver

There we are, here are some honey jars. Now you have a good reason to visit Butter Hill, where the whole Buttergood family lives. Do you know Butter Hill, by the way?

You don’t? It’s probably best I tell you a little bit about it before you go.

Here’s how it is: Butter Hill is the actual estate on which the Buttergood family lives. It’s built around the ruins of an ancient fort known as Old Ridgecaster. Nobody knows who built the old fort but from what I’ve heard, the latest theory is that the Romans settled there around two thousand years ago.

The big fort behind Old Ridgecaster? You certainly seem to be interested in history, Rita! I’m not the right person to talk to, really, but you can certainly find someone who knows more about Epona’s history in New Hillcrest. Anyway, I can tell you what little I do know about the fort.

It’s called Fort Maria. It’s quite a lot like Fort Pinta, did you think about that? They were both built at the same time, but Fort Maria’s been closed off to the public for as long as anyone can remember. It’s probably just an old wive’s tale, but apparently nobody who ever made it over the wall has ever come back… Haha! Standard stories that parents tell their children to stop them doing stupid stuff.

Anyway, while I’m telling you about Epona, I might as well tell you about The Great Thunder. It’s a huge ravine right in between Old Ridgecaster and New Hillcrest, that splits Epona in two. The Great Thunder was created when a gunpowder factory in that spot exploded a couple of hundred years ago.

Now I think we’ve had enough history chat, because you’ve got an important task to get done!

Take these jars of honey and give them to Junior up on Butter Hill. He knows where Robert will be, but you have to come up with a crafty reason as to why you’d need to meet him.

Hmm… I have an idea, actually. Tell Junior that I need help to repair one of the beehives. Let him know that there’ll be no more honey until it’s fixed, and he’ll definitely need Robert’s help to do it.

Good luck, and say hello to Robert from me.

Objectives: Take the jars of honey to Junior Buttergood on Butter Hill.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 20 with Crescent Moon Village

Junior can be found angrily pacing in front of the Buttergood mansion, located at the top of Butter Hill.

junior_buttergood

You again? Didn’t I tell you to get lost?

You’ve got daddy’s honey with you? Pamela too afraid to face me, or could she just not be bothered coming up here? Haha, oh well at least I don’t have to look at her which is always something.

Quest completed

______________

Report from The Great Thunder

junior_buttergood

Why are you still here? If you want a tip, you can forget it!

You need to meet my brother Robert? One of Pamela’s beehives is broken and she needs Robert’s help to fix it, you say?

Snort.

Yeah, well, it’s not a big job and daddy certainly needs a steady supply of his honey. You can do me a favor first though, otherwise I shan’t tell you where you’ll find Robert. Ha.

Hehe, you think that the honey is more important than running around on errands for me? Well, yes, you’d be right but I can see that you’re in a hurry and I’ve got time to wait but you don’t, am I right?

So there we go. It’s just a small favor, and it’ll be done in no time on that horse of yours. Hehe.

Ride over to The Great Thunder and see how it’s going with the bridge repairs. My brother Scott is taking care of it, and he should have a report to give me about how it’s progressing. I should’ve had the report this morning, but he hasn’t been here yet. Scott didn’t exactly inherit daddy’s intelligence, so you can ride over there and fetch the report for me. If he hasn’t written it, you can tell him from me that he’ll be sleeping in the tool shed tonight.

Hahaha!

Snort.

Now get going. Now.

Objectives: Ride to The Great Thunder and ask Scott Buttergood for a report for Junior.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 25 with Crescent Moon Village

Ride along the road on the hill below the mansion and you will get to a broken bridge (which you can easily jump over to get across to New Hillcrest). Scott can be found supervising work on the bridge, while he walks around like he thinks he’s a badass cowboy but just looks like he might have a wedgie….

scott_buttergood

Uh?

Who are you? This is a forbidden area, don’t you get that?

Quest completed

______________

Bridge-Building Has Its Problems

scott_buttergood

You’d like a report to take to Junior?

Grr… He knows exactly how much trouble I’m having with the bridge. Of course I haven’t had time to write a report for him. Bah!

Do you have any idea how hard it is to build a bridge over The Great Thunder? People have been trying to build something here for generations, but it always collapses…

Why it always collapses? Don’t ask me, it’s probably some kind of werewolf or vampire or other ghoulish goblin that makes all the trouble.

If there are vampires and werewolves here? Well yeah, of course!

If I’ve ever seen any? Of course not, nobody has. Do you think you’d have read about it in the papers if somebody had? Think about it. Everyone knows there are monsters here in Epona, though. At least the people with half a brain know they exist, but you don’t seem to be one of those kinds of people… Hehe.

Anyway, enough joking, time for you to get started on writing a report for Junior, because I’ve got to get one with building this bridge.

Why should you write the report? Easy. If you want a report to take to Junior then you can write it yourself. I haven’t got time to waste and I’d rather sleep in the tool shed than let Junior boss me around like he does.

Sigh. Right, I’ll help you. You’ll have to excuse me if I sound a bit mean, this is stressful work and it seems Junior’s bad mood is contagious.

Don’t worry though, this kind of report is easy. Here’s a form you can fill out, it’s already printed out what you should do. Just ride round to the places on the form, and check off whether they look like they’re in good shape or bad shape. Not so advanced.

Come back when you’re done so I can take a look at it before you ride back to Junior.

Objectives: Ride round to the spots around the bridge and fill in the form to say whether it looks good or bad, then return to Scott Buttergood when you’re done.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 20 with Crescent Moon Village

Inspect the three areas on the bridge to complete your report, then speak to Scott.

scott_buttergood

You’ve written the report? Let me see.

Looks okay. Junior will probably be satisfied.

Quest completed

______________

The Short Straw

scott_buttergood

I suppose I should thank you. What’s your name, by the way?

My name’s Scott Buttergood, it’s nice to meet you Rita. I suppose I can take a little break to chat to you, especially since this job is going to go on forever anyway!

So you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Junior. What do you think of him?

Haha! No need to answer Rita, he’s not very nice, I know.

It runs in the family, sadly. Our dad Valdemar is the least pleasant man you could ever hope to meet. Luckily, we didn’t have to see him much as kids since it was our mother who raised us for the most part. When she died, I thought our family was going to fall apart, but the brothers have kept it all together in spite of everything.

Didn’t our father take over our upbringing, you ask? Haha, no chance. He just expected us to take care of ourselves, he’s only ever been interested in Junior and never had time for me and Robert. Haha, don’t look so sad, it was Junior who drew the short straw; if you want to feel sorry for someone, it should be him.

Meh, enough now with the mushy family stuff, I need to get on with this thankless task. It’s not finished and I can’t guarantee it won’t collapse. But yeah, you get up to whatever you want now.

Seeya!

Objectives: Ride back to Junior Buttergood with the report from Scott Buttergood.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 25 with Crescent Moon Village

Now Junior can know how the bridge is coming along.

junior_buttergood

You’ve got the report?

Good. I need to be able to light the fire this evening, I’m fresh out of paper.

You think I should read it?

Haha! I’d never read it, I just like bossing Scott around. He needs reminding every now and then that it’s me who’s in charge around here.

A Brother You Can Never Rely On

junior_buttergood

You shouldn’t be hanging around someone like Pamela, she’s bad news, don’t you know. She hasn’t got a clue about the three most important things in life: money, money, and MONEY!

It’s only G.E.D. who’ve got half an idea on this island, but everyone else is gonna see! I’ve got BIG plans!

You’re looking for Robert? My brother Robert? Why would you be looking for that moron? Pamela needs help to repair a beehive? Nah, forget it, listen I don’t like uninvited guests on my land, so GET LOST.

Hmm? I promised to help you if you brought me the report? I promised, did I?

Snort.

I don’t think I promised at all, I’m sure I’d remember. But I feel rather friendly today so I suppose I’ll help. Robert’s down working in the cotton fields.

Robert can be found by following the road to the bottom of the hill.

robert_buttergood

Hi there, I’m Bobby Buttergood! Who might you be?

Rita, nice to meet you. How can I help?

Pamela said I could help you meet Mrs X?

Umm… That’s not a very small favor! I suppose if you want to meet Mrs X, then you must also want to stop G.E.D. here in the Harvest Counties…

Maybe you could help me with something first if you wouldn’t mind?

Quest completed

______________

A Little Bit of Sabotage in Old Ridgecaster

robert_buttergood

If I’m a member of CHILL? Well yeah, but I’m not in their inner circle. I don’t know anything more than is absolutely necessary about the organization — safety first as Mrs X usually says! I know almost nothing about who else is a member or what plans they might have on the go.

How come I joined CHILL?

Well, Rita, it’s a long story. I can try and give you the short version though, we’ve got time for that…

Behind me is the bridge to Bear Point. The gate on the bridge has been locked up so that you can’t get past it, and as you can see, it’s a wasteland with nothing growing there. The land was destroyed when Junior started drilling for oil there, and then G.E.D. really finished it off when they started looking for… Whatever it is they’re looking for here in the Harvest Counties.

That G.E.D. left Bear Point behind is CHILL’s doing. It’s a really exciting story, but we can go over it another time when we’re not in such a hurry. It was at that time that I realized what G.E.D. and my brother had done to Bear Point and I decided to join CHILL.

Now we’ve got to get to work, Rita. We’re going to start off a little bit of sabotage in Old Ridgecaster. Nothing dangerous, but every little helps when it comes to stopping G.E.D.

They keep a bunch of their materials here on our estate. There’s barrels with dangerous chemicals and a whole range of machinery. Machinery that we’re going to sabotage! Sand in the gas tank — a classic! Haha!

I’ve messed up G.E.D.’s machines before, but JR started suspecting that it was me behind all the broken equipment. He’s had his eye on me for ages now so I never get the chance to sabotage anything. The plan is for me to go up to see Junior so that he sees it can’t be me that breaking the machines while you fill up the gas tanks of every machine you can find with sand. A perfect alibi for me which is definitely going to be a bit of a head-scratcher for Junior. Haha!

If you do this, I’ll tell you how you can get hold of Mrs X.

Objectives: Pour sand into the petrol tanks of G.E.D.’s machines around Old Ridgecaster.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 40 with Crescent Moon Village

You can find several machines scattered up and down the hill. Dismount your horse and use the sand from your inventory to wreck the machines. When you are finished with your sabotage, return to Robert.

robert_buttergood

Haha! Nice work Rita!

This’ll give G.E.D. something to think about, and Junior’s going to go crazy over how this could’ve happened. It’s probably not the worst thing that’s happened to G.E.D., but every little bit helps.

Epona’s Getting Colder

robert_buttergood

I promised I’d help you find Mrs X, and that’s exactly what I’ll do.

I don’t know who she is, but maybe you already guessed that…? Even if I did know who she is, I probably wouldn’t say anything because — even though you seem trustworthy — Mrs X herself would always say ‘safety first!’…

I can tell you how to get hold of my contact in New Hillcrest, a person who’s very much in the inner circle of CHILL. If anyone can arrange a meeting with Mrs X, it’s this person.

I’m not going to say a word about who it is, you never know who might be listening, but I’ll teach you a secret phrase that I use to be able to find my contact. Talk to the residents of New Hillcrest and say the phrase “Epona’s getting colder.” If someone responds by saying “but it’ll soon be warm again,” you’ll know you’re talking to the right person.

To be able to get to New Hillcrest, you’ll have to ride round The Great Thunder, the ravine that splits Epona in two. You’ll maybe find a spot where you could get over the ravine, but I wouldn’t hold out much hope…

Ride back to Crescent Moon Village, then head east through the Mirror Marshes. Stay on the roads and you’ll eventually find a road that takes you south. Once you’re on that road, it won’t be long until you’re at New Hillcrest.

I’m sure I’ll see you again soon Rita. Good luck!

Objectives: Find Robert Buttergood’s contact in CHILL at New Hillcrest.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 80 XP

Reputation: 10 with New Hillcrest

You can return to Crescent Moon Village and ride through Mirror Marshes. The quicker route is back up Butter Hill and jump over the gap in the broken bridge, the road will take you directly to New Hillcrest.

Enter the old looking town square part of the town, and speak your secret phrase to the citizens until you find someone who replies with the correct response.

Hi guys!

I am so sorry i haven’t posted on here for quite a long time!

The reasons are that my laptop got broken, I couldn’t afford a new one, my parents wouldn’t buy me one and when I did manage to buy one, some personal family issues started and I was just too sad to do anything…

Maggie, if you will still have me, I would like to start up writing for you, perhaps sometime in January?

Thanks anyway.

A Neighborly Race

pamela_moonriver

I don’t think I’ve told you about the race our village arranges, have I?

Seems as though I forgot to tell you! Well, with all that’s going on, I hope you can forgive me, Rita! You know what, ride out and talk to Ilona Skywolf, she’s the race organizer. You’ll find her on the other side of the river, on the way to Shipwreck Shores.

Good luck in the race Rita, and say hello to Ilona from me!

Objectives: Talk to Ilona Skywolf.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Crescent Moon Village

Ride out of the village to the west and Ilona can be found on the side of the road after a short distance.

Summerblaze. A fine name if I may say so.

Terrific. If you stand over by the starting line, I’ll count you down. Best of luck!

Objectives: Ride to the finish line.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

This race may be quite difficult. Make sure you have good jumping skill as many of the obstacles are fairly large. Agility skill is also recommended.

Complete the race, then speak to Ilona.

ilona_skywolf

Ha! You did a marvelous job!

With that done, you can now compete in this race as a daily task.

Let’s go wander around New Hillcrest and see if anyone needs our help there….

Urgh… Hmph… Ow, ow, ow!!

Hello? Is somebody there?

You, hey! Girlie! Could you help me please? Urgh… OWWW!!

I’m stuck, could you help me lift up this barbell so I can get up? Ugh… Ouch, ouch, ouch!! Could you hurry please? It’s really heavy! Ugh… Hmph.

Objectives: Lift the barbell from on top of the man on the ground.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Sigh.

I’m really terrible at this now, I can’t even lift a barbell anymore. Now it’s just sitting here laughing at me. I sear if it could talk it would definitely be laughing.

Sigh.

I wish I could just pick it up and clear it away, but how’s that gonna happen if I can’t even lift it up? If I can’t lift it, how am I going to dismantle it? I’m really bad at this…

Sorry, what? You’ll dismantle it for me?

Umm… Okay?

Objectives: Dismantle the barbell, then talk to the upset man.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Sorry, I totally forgot to introduce myself. I’m Ricky Winterwell, and you are?

Rita? Cool name. How come you’re so strong? I wish I was that strong. Have you also practiced Jor Jitsu?

You haven’t?

Hmm. Thanks for helping me with the weighs, I won’t keep you any longer.

Sigh.

I’d never have been able to do that myself. I’m the worst. I don’t even know why I tried to pump that much iron… Can’t even believe I used to be able to lift it…

Doesn’t matter though. Even if I could lift it, I’m nowhere near strong enough to win.

Yeah, I used to train at Jor Jitsu. You could say I got a little bit over-confident and thought I was the best. Sigh. Probably best I crashed back to reality and realized that I can’t do anything at all.

Objectives: Talk to Ricky.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with New Hillcrest

Poor, poor, sad Ricky.

ricky_winterwell

Ugh. Sigh.

I don’t want to talk about Jor Jitsu and training and all that stuff now. Leave me be.

Take Your Mind Off It…

ricky_winterwell

Please… Leave me be, I don’t feel so great right now.

What? You think I should take my mind off it with something else? Like what?

If there’s anything I need to get done? Hmm… Now you mention it, I have actually promised to build some horse riding obstacles for the Bulldogz. Sigh.

Who are the Bulldogz? They’re New Hillcrest’s very own riding club.

I just want to watch a film or something. I dunno if I can bring myself to build a racetrack right now… Hey! I know! I can maybe chill in front of the TV and watch Larry Porter. I’ve got all the films at home. I could watch Larry Porter and the Prisoner of Alcatraz or Larry Porter and the Border of the Peanuts…

Hmm… Sigh. You’re probably right Rita. If I’ve promised, I suppose I better see it through.

I just don’t know if I have the energy right now though. Sigh.

You’d like to help me? Really? Wow, that’s really nice of you!

Oh, wait a second! I just remembered that Nathalie borrowed my axe, so it’s down by the stable. Without my axe, I can’t build any obstacles since I need to chop wood to make them. I’ll probably just go and grab the axe some other tie, I really can’t be bothered now…

What? You’ll ride down and get it?

Umm… Okay, if you’re sure? Talk to my girlfriend Nathalie Moonriver, she’ll definitely help you. She’s the manager of the stables, so if you ride down there, you’ll see her for sure.

Objectives: Ride down to the stables and fetch the axe from Nathalie Moonriver.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 15 with New Hillcrest

Ride south out of New Hillcrest and down a big hill to the coastline you’ll find the stable. Nathalie is standing out front.

Ricky’s axe? Where’s Ricky, and who are you?

Quest completed

______________

The Loss That Never Left

nathalie_moonriver

Nice to meet you Rita! What a beautiful horse you have! You must’ve been riding a very long time, no? Well anyway, my name’s Nathalie Moonriver, and I’m the manager here at the stables. Well, for as long as they’re still here anyway.

Sorry, that’s got nothing to do with your problem! How’s Ricky? How come he didn’t come get the axe himself?

Hmm…

Ricky’s not normally this down in the mouth. See, my Ricky used to be a really top martial arts expert in Jor Jitsu. Everything was looking great for him and everyone thought he was going to win the All-Jorvik Championships, but that’s when he lost the most important match of his life. Before that match, he always wanted to compete, he was always on go and always wanted to train and work out. After that loss, it’s like all the energy just drained out of him.

I wish I could do something for him.

Hmm… I dunno if there’s much you could do either, Rita.

Sorry, hey, now I’m keeping you here with loads of unnecessary information. You were here to get Ricky’s axe? It should be sitting round the back of the stable.

Or actually, wait… Grab two axes. I just had an idea. Both axes are behind the stable.

Objectives: Fetch two axes from the back of the stable, then talk to Nathalie.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 15 with New Hillcrest

Go around behind the stable building and pick up the two axes on the ground there, then return to Nathalie.

nathalie_moonriver

Did you find them? Great! Let me tell you about this idea I had.

Quest completed

______________

The Beginnings of a Plan

nathalie_moonriver

Do you still want to help me and Ricky, Rita?

Great! Then you can hear my plan…

Ricky used to be incredibly competitive. It was a bit awkward sometimes, but it was mostly pretty charming, the way he’d compete at every single thing he did was kinda cute sometimes. Who could brush their teeth the fastest, who could fit the most popcorn in their mouth or which one of us could stay awake longest during a movie marathon.

Since he lost that match though, he’s just not like that anymore. This is why I’m thinking it would be a good idea for you to challenge him to a load of competitive stuff — doesn’t matter how silly or simple it seems — just challenge him at everything. Wanna give it a go?

Haha great! This makes me happy, thanks so much!

Now you get why I wanted you to get two axes, right?

Haha, exactly. You’re gonna have an axe each so you can compete against each other!

If this doesn’t work, then… Then… Nope, I can’t even think about it. This just has to work. We need to get Ricky back to his old competitive self again, because I can’t stand seeing him so unhappy.

Thanks Rita, you’re right! Together we can do this! You’ll ride back to Ricky with the axes now?

Awesome! Don’t forget what we’ve talked about. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

Objectives: Ride back to Ricky with the axes.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 15 with New Hillcrest

Let’s hope this plan works to get Ricky back to his old competitive self again.

ricky_winterwell

Sigh. Did you get the axe? Was Nathalie there?

Quest completed

______________

Timber!

ricky_winterwell

Sigh.

Thanks for bringing the axe Rita, but I really don’t think I have the energy to go chopping trees down today.

Sigh.

What’s that? Nathalie said I’ve competed in Jor Jitsu? Yeah, she’s right, but it doesn’t matter anymore. I’ll never compete again, even if it could save the stables…

The winner of the Jorvegian Jor Jitsu Championships gets a whole heap of money, money I’d have given to Nathalie and the stable, but you saw how it went with the barbell earlier…

Why does the stable need money? Oh, it’s not anything you and Summerblaze need to worry about, we’ve got enough worrying going on here as it is.

Sigh. Instead of cutting down trees, I think I’ll just go and sit down to watch Larry Porter and the Half-Mud Prints.

Excuse me? What did you say, Rita? That you don’t think I could chop down a tree? Hmph. Of course I can, I just don’t feel like it right now.

What do you mean race? You wanna race me to see who can cut down the most trees? Hahaha, oh little Rita, I’ll soon show you! I’m not scared, of course I’ll race you in tree chopping! Grrr, you’ll see! Of course I can chop down a tree!

See you back here in a while and we’ll see who can chop down three trees the fastest. Oh! If we’re going to be chopping down trees, then we may as well chop fir trees. Nothing’s as good as fir logs when it comes to building obstacles!

Objectives: Chop down three trees then return to the back of Ricky’s house.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Reputation: 25 with New Hillcrest

Ride behind the cafe and stable area of the village to find the trees. Use the axe to chop down three trees, then race back to Ricky’s house and find him in the backyard.

ricky_winterwell

What the…?! How can you be that fast?!

Quest completed

______________

Ditch Those Twigs!

ricky_winterwell

Huh? You reckon I should be trying to level the score? We’ve already cut down all the trees we need though…

Another race? In what?

Hmm… The next step in building the obstacles? Well I guess we need to tidy up these trees and get rid of all the twigs and branches.

You think we should race at that as well? Who can chop all the twigs and branches from the trunks the quickest?

Okay then! Haha! Grrr, I’ll show you fast this time. You wanna go? Ready, set, chop!

Objectives: Clear the tree trunks of all their branches and twigs, then talk to Ricky.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 40 XP

Reputation: 25 with New Hillcrest

Dismount your horse and race Ricky to clean up the trees. Use your axe on the trees to clear off the branches.

You Can Work, I Can Rest

ricky_winterwell

Whew! I’m done now! My fitness levels aren’t what they used to be. You should’ve seen me at my best! Even that wasn’t enough to win though… Sigh.

I lost my final match from lack of stamina. I thought I was well-trained enough, but my competitor… Was quite simply better. Stronger, more stamina, he was everything I wasn’t.

Sigh. I don’t have any more work in me right now, I’ve gotta take a rest. Whew!

Here, you can borrow my hammer in the meantime if you like. Follow my instructions, I’ll tell you what you need to do!

Objectives: Follow Ricky’s instructions for how to build the race obstacles.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: 25 with New Hillcrest

Dismount your horse and follow Ricky’s instructions to construct the obstacles. Complete each step before the timer runs out or you will have to begin again.

Those Flags Are Good, Jorvegian Wood

ricky_winterwell

There we go! You’re doing well here Rita, so we might as well get on with the next step right away! We need to paint race flags for the course.

Yeah, you’ve never thought of that? We only use wooden flags here on Jorvik. I mean, in some bigger races there are fabric flags, but in most cases, they’re wooden. Easier to take care of and they can withstand rain and rough weather so much better than fabric out in the forests.

What? Why are you even bothering me to a painting race, we both know you’ll win…

Umm, WHAT? Of course I can paint! Hmph!

Right, nah, you’ll see this time, I’ll show you painting! Ready? Start painting on three?

One… Two… Three!!

(You think it’s probably a good idea to let Ricky win this one so that he gets a little of his confidence back…)

Objectives: Paint the wooden racing flags, then talk to Ricky.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Reputation: 25 with New Hillcrest

Place the flag from your inventory, use the paint (slowly), then pick up the finished flag. Paint the three flags, then speak to Ricky.

I can’t believe I won! Rita! I’m starting to feel something bubbling up inside of me… It feels like I just want to… Run!

I wanna go running right now Rita! Come on, let’s go for a jog down to the stable so we can surprise Nathalie!

I’m just gonna grab my jogging shoes, then we can get going! Hmm… Come to think of it, where are my jogging shoes?

I remembered never wanting to see them again so I threw them away, but I can’t remember where I chucked them.

Could you help me have a look for them?

First Jog in Ages

Come on Rita! Let’s get out and run!

When I used to run regularly, Nathalie or one of the Bulldogz would come with me and blow into a horn to make sure I kept up my pace. I want to do it again now since I won!

It’s not hard, as soon as you notice I’m slowing down, blow the horn! Don’t let me stop for a second because then my pulse slows.

Just think, Rita! I won! Things are finally gonna go my way! Now let’s run down to the stable and see Nathalie!

Objectives: Join Ricky on his run.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Reputation: 25 with New Hillcrest

Dismount your horse and follow Ricky on foot as he runs down to the stable. Use the horn to encourage him to keep his pace. If you let him stop, you will have to begin again. Also, don’t worry about leaving your horse, it will meet you down at the stable and in a following quest you will run back up to Ricky’s house.

Meet Ricky by Nathalie and the thug Ivan Drake, out talking in front of the stable.

I won’t be staying long. Just here to check out my new gym premises, or, well, your dirty stinking stable as it is for now. Hehe.

Who do you have here with you, Ricky? Who’s Little Miss Nobody?

Rita? I’ve heard that name before. My sister probably mentioned it…

Who am I? HA! I’m Ivan Drake, make sure you store that name away in your silly little pea-brain.

Oh, I’m sorry, did little chicky Ricky have something to say? You dumb little pipsqueak, YOU think YOU have a chance against me? Wow, you’re even more tragic than I remember. You’ll never beat me in the Jorvegian Jor Jitsu Championships. Hehe.

Let’s imagine for a moment that you did — against all odds — get a place at districts… All that means is that I’d get to look forward to smashing you at nationals. Haha.

In any case, I’m perfectly excited to take over this rancid mess of a stable and turn it into the gym and training HQ for Total Destruction, the elite Jor Jitsu club where only the best and strongest can train. Hehe

Oh now the stable girl has something to say. What’s that, Nathalie? Your precious little horsies won’t have anywhere to go if the stable disappears?

Nawwww, poor little fluffy horsies. Hahaha, what makes you think I even care about your dumb horses? I don’t care if they’re homeless, I don’t care if you don’t get to keep them. Get it? Nobody cares.

Have a nice day anyway, losers. Oh, and Nathalie! I look forward to the loan interest being paid on tie this month, otherwise next month there’ll be a 78% extra charge! Maybe I could take this opportunity to take your house as payment? Would be nice to live so close to the training center…

Objectives: Talk to Nathalie.

Oh dear, how did you get wrapped up with a jerk like this?

______________

The End for New Hillcrest Stables

nathalie_moonriver

Grrr… I hate that little worm! Gosh, I’m so ANGRY!!

Sniffle… Ricky? What are we going to do? We can’t let Ivan Drake and GED take over our stable. Where would all the horses go? Sniff. I just dreamed of having a stable where all kinds of horses are welcome and could have a home if they needed one. Sniff! We can’t let them take our stable! We need help from somewhere…

Sniffle… Rita, I know you don’t know much about what’s going on here.

A few years ago there were lots and lots of money troubles all over New Hillcrest. Everyone was struggling for money, and it even started to go wrong for the stable. It got so bad that at one point, we came close to having to close the stable for good if we didn’t get enough money together. If the stable had to close, then lots of the horses wouldn’t have anywhere to live, and some of them might even have needed to be… Sniffle…

So Ricky and I talked to this new bank that had just opened that was offering really attractive loans, even if you didn’t have too much of an income. The loans were almost too good to be true, and in the end it turned out that GED and the Drake family were the owners of the bank.

When we signed the loan agreement, everything seemed above board, but now the stable and all my private property is going to be taken away from me if the whole loan isn’t paid back soon. Where will the horses go then?

Sniff.

Please Ricky, please Rita, can I just be alone for a little while now? I need to talk to the Bulldogz, because I think time’s pretty much up for our stable and our horses…

Objectives: Talk to Ricky.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

I simply have to win! Ivan’s the reigning champion in Jor Jitsu, and it was against him that I lost last time… If I could just win this time, then I can fix everything!

You’re sure, Rita? You’ll help us? You don’t know how much that means, thank you! Together we can do this!

Come on, let’s run back to my place. This time I’m gonna give it 120%! Don’t let me stop! Whatever you do Rita, do NOT let me stop!! It’s now or never!

Objectives: Jog back with Ricky.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Gluten-Free Is the Way to Go!

ricky_winterwell

That feels better! It’s gonna be tough times now though. So much training to do, tons of working out to make sure I’m ready for the qualifies for districts.

First I need to qualify for a place in the district championships, and then when I’ve done that I need to win it. Once I’ve done that, it’s only the national final to go, and the only thing between me and first place is Ivan.

If I’m going to be able to do this, I need to eat right. Last time I was working out, I only ate protein, but I hear that the latest thing to eat gluten-free food.

What do you mean by eat a little of everything in moderation? What’s that? Nah, Rita, gluten-free is the way to go! I need to stretch out after my jog, it’s really important to warm down.

Could you ride over to Jamie Olivetree’s bakery and get some gluten-free bread for me please?

Great! Seeya soon!

Objectives: Get some gluten-free bread from Jamie Olivetree.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Are you new here, by the way? I don’t recognize you.

Rita, you say? Lovely name! My mum’s uncle’s sister’s niece is called that as well!

My name’s Jamie Olivetree, but you can call me Jamie.

If you’ve got time, it’d be lovely to get to know you more! Always great to see a fresh face around here.

Here’s your bread in any case, it’s a tiny bit burned, but you’ll just have to scrape it off, scrape it off!

(Scrape it off? The entire loaf looks like a piece of coal. Best return to Ricky with it.)

Objectives: Give the gluten-free bread coal lump to Ricky.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with New Hillcrest

And this children, is what you get in your stocking from Santa if you’re naughty.

Great! My bread!

Umm… Is gluten-free bread supposed to look like this? It looks a bit… Burned.

Hmm… I guess I’ll eat it as soon as I’m done building the racetrack.

“Hi Sweetie!” I looked up. It was my Mom… “Well, as its your 15th birthday next week, I decided to get you something really special.” She said, not noticing I had rolled my eyes  when she wasn’t looking. Oh, so that’s it. Every 5 years she gets me something really special that she thinks I’ll ‘really like’- when I was 5 and got me a fairy dress (I really hated it) and when I was 10 she took me for a 5 day trip to Australia. In SUMMER! Gosh, it was SO  hot and there were disgusting bugs literally EVERYWHERE! “So, this year I got us tickets to……” my Mom dramatically whispered while doing a drum roll,” TAYLOR SWIFT’S WASHINGTON CONCERT!!!! And as a plus, we’ll stay there an extra week to go sightseeing!” What?!! Was she serious??!!! I jumped up and down screaming. I had loved Taylor Swift since I was 10 years old. But suddenly, something bad occurred to me. “But Mom, who will care for Cashmere? And don’t I have Horse Riding State Championships in a week?” Cashmere was my 5 year old Icelandic mare. “Don’t worry! Dad’s staying behind to look after the farm and one of the judges from the Championship had to pull out due to a bad case of Chickenpox. The doctors are sure she’ll be ready to judge in a month though, so the championship will be held next month.” I gave a big smile. “So when are we leaving? And what should I pack?” My Mom thought for a moment before saying, ” We’re leaving tomorrow. And you should pack enough clothes for a week and a half.” Straight away I started packing my suitcase and finished in record time. I called my friend, Zoë, on my iPhone 6s. “ZOË ZOË ZOË GUESS WHATTTTT???? ME AND MY MOM ARE GOING TO NEW YORK FOR A WEEK TO WATCH TAYLOR SWIFT’S CONCERT!!! WE’RE LEAVING TOMORROW AND ITS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME!!” I cried into my phone. “Wow, you’re really gonna have an epic week! Anyway, I have to go, my parents are forcing me to clean my bedroom. See you next week!” I ended the call and walked downstairs. “How many concerts is Taylor Swift performing?” I asked my Mom. “She’s performing 4 concerts, and with the one we’re going to, Selena Gomez and Lorde are going to be the special guests. Oh, and I forgot to mention, we’ll be staying in the same hotel as Taylor! We’ll even be 3 rooms away from her room!” She exclaimed. Omg! How could this trip get better? I went upstairs to sleep, dreaming about actually meeting my biggest idol, Taylor Alison Swift!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

Haha, sorry for my extremely long break xD You may notice there are not many horse mentions in this chapter. Rest assured, there will be a lot of horse/ Star Stable mentions in future chapters :)

Before a Race

ricky_winterwell

Welcome back Rita!

Now I’ve set up a really great cross country track for you and the Bulldogz to use. Would you like to give it a test run?

If you ride down to the stable, you should see Ginny. She’s one of the Bulldogz and she’ll be responsible for the track.

Talk to her and say hello from me. Then she’ll get you started and help you keep track of time.

Objectives: Talk to Ginny.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 15 with New Hillcrest

Ride down the hill towards the stable, and you’ll find Ginny on the side of the road before you get to the stable.

ginny

Hi! You’re Rita, right? Ricky said you’d be popping by.

Quest completed

______________

The New Racecourse!

ginny

Hey, I’m Ginny! I’m part of Bulldogz, Jorvik’s best riding club.

I heard you wanted to try the new track Ricky built for us? Of course you can try it out, it’ll be exciting to see how quickly you can complete the course.

Good luck now!

Objectives: Ride the race as fast as you can.

Rewards: 55 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP, 200 Horse XP

Reputation: 75 with New Hillcrest

This course can be challenging because the obstacles are quite large, and you only get ten seconds between checkpoints, instead of the normal twenty.

When you have finished the race, speak to Ginny.

ginny

Wow! That was FAST! You must’ve been riding forever!

Quest completed

______________

Curious About the Result…

ginny

Nice to meet you Rita!

Just come back and ask if you ever wanna try the course again, but now you should probably be getting back to Ricky. I think he’s curious about the result of your race, and he’ll want to know what you think of the course he set up!

Objectives: Talk to Ricky.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with New Hillcrest

Return to Ricky and tell him what you think of the racecourse.

ricky_winterwell

How’d it go?

Quest completed

Sore Muscles Everywhere!

ricky_winterwell

How was the gluten-free bread?

Umm… It was… Burnt. I’m not sure gluten-free is the right diet for me. I think I’m gonna go for the fruit and nut diet. Just loads of fruit. And nuts.

You still think a balanced, varied diet is best? Hmph. Nah, I’ll stick to my diet, thanks, haha!

Anyway, more important things to talk about: the competition! To be able to compete and qualify for districts, I need to send in my application.

Apparently this application form has to be filled in but I did so many bicep curls yesterday that I can hardly move my arms to hold a pen — my whole arm is shaking from having sore muscles!

Might you be able to fill it in for me?

Objectives: Fill in the application form.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 10 with New Hillcrest

Dismount your horse and use the pen to complete the application.

ricky_winterwell

Great! Now it’s filled in! I just need a picture now before we can send it off.

Quest completed

______________

New Picture, New Try

ricky_winterwell

The only picture I have of myself is a few years old, so I think I need a new picture for the application. Could you take one for me?

I’ll just stand here. Should I smile or not?

You think I should smile? Okay, I’ll get ready. Just take one when you’re ready.

Objectives: Take a picture of Ricky.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 15 with New Hillcrest

Use the camera to keep taking pictures until Ricky is happy with one.

ricky_winterwell

That picture feels like a good one! We’ll use it!

Applied for Districts!

ricky_winterwell

Great! Rita, this feels like it’s gonna go really well. I’m just gonna do a few sit ups now, but maybe you could take the application form and the photo and post them in the mailbox for me?

Thanks!!

Objectives: Put the application in the mail, then talk to Ricky.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 10 with New Hillcrest

Go to the red mailbox in the old part of New Hillcrest to send the letter, then return to Ricky.

ricky_winterwell

25! Whew! I managed 25 sit ups… Feels like I’m making progress!

The Road to Districts

ricky_winterwell

The weeks ahead are gonna be filled with training and working out before the qualifiers for districts. If you want, you could come by and help me!

To start with, it’s mostly just jogging to get my overall fitness back up, but if you want to help, that’d be awesome!

I do a few extra bits and pieces of work around town; I deliver newspapers and collect trash. If you’ve got time, you could even help me with that so I’ve got more time to focus on my training…

Hey listen, thanks so much for all your help! If you hadn’t shown up and got me motivated, then there’d have been no hope left for the stable and its horses. Now we’ve got a shot at survival.

Objectives: Talk to Ricky.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP, White Knitted Cotton Sweater

Reputation: 10 with New Hillcrest

So glad to be of help!

ricky_winterwell

Oh yeah, I was supposed to say hey from Nathalie as well. She says thanks for helping us save the stable, and that we’ve got you a little present.

Here you go!

Quest completed

You can now help Ricky with daily quests of jogging, delivering newspapers, and collecting trash.

Pamela Moonriver in Crescent Moon Village seems pretty upset about something. Let’s go see what she needs help with.

Alberta, the Little Nuisance

pamela_moonriver

Grrr!

Get back here you little nuisance!

 Hello Rita!

See the mess Professor Hayden’s little darling has made?! Just wait ’til I get hold of her, I bet she’s still around here somewhere.

Alberta!! Come here!!

Could you ride over to Professor Hayden’s house and tell him that he needs to come and pick up his little cutie-pie? He’s my neighbor, so he lives in the house behind mine.

Objectives: Ride to Professor Hayden’s house and talk to him.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Crescent Moon Village

Make sure to go around the outside of Pam’s garden, because her bees are very upset and if they get near you, they will chase you away.

Look’s like there’s a note tacked to Hayden’s door, let’s see what it says.

self

Not at home, so you don’t need to come back. If you must know, I’m camping.

Nobody Home

Seem’s like nobody’s home. Best ride back to Pamela and let her know Hayden’s gone camping.

Objectives: Talk to Pamela.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Return to Pamela, again skirting around her garden.

pamela_moonriver

He’s out camping again?!

Quest completed

Soothing Sugary Water

pamela_moonriver

Sigh.

Just look at what Hayden’s Alberta has done here! She’s flipped over all my beehives, so now the bees are going crazy, and to top it off, Hayden’s not even home! Who leaves their pets home alone when they’re out camping?! If he can’t keep Alberta under control, then he’ll have to keep her on a leash or something.

But I suppose we’ll get to Hayden and Alberta later. Now we need to calm down these angry bees before they fly off and attack the whole village.

Would you mind helping?

I can always count on you!

The best way to get them to calm down is by giving them some sugary water, they love it!

Take these bowls and set them out next to the beehives. Be careful though, they’re pretty angry and could attack you if you get too close.

Objectives: Set out the bowls of sugary water and be careful of the angry bees!

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 20 with Crescent Moon Village

Dismount your horse and walk into the garden. The bee swarms move in repetitive patterns, so watch their movements to be able to time yours. Place the bowls down by each of the toppled beehives to calm the bees. Once a bowl is placed, you can safely walk past that swarm. When all the bowls are placed, return to Pamela.

pamela_moonriver

Whew! Lovely, now they seem to be calming down.

Quest completed

______________

pamela_moonriver

Whew! Now the bees have calmed down in any case. Why did she come and cause all the fuss? Alberta’s nothing but trouble if you ask me.

Can you help me pick up the beehives again? The ones that Alberta flipped over anyway, the little terror.

Thanks, how lovely of you to help me.

Objectives: Set the beehives straight then talk to Pamela.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Crescent Moon Village

With the bees calmed down, go into the garden and right all of the beehives, then return to Pamela.

pamela_moonriver

Thanks for all your help Rita.

Quest completed

______________

Tent Outside Town

pamela_moonriver

Hmm, now Hayden needs to get himself back home and deal with his little pet before she causes much more trouble for us here in the village.

If he’s not home, he’ll be out camping. He usually pitches his tent just outside the village. I’ve got an awful lot to do here at home so I haven’t got time to go looking for Hayden. Could you ride out to him and tell him to come back and pick up Alberta?

Thanks a lot! See you later!

Objectives: Look for Professor Hayden’s tent.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 15 with Crescent Moon Village

Leave the village to the east, but do not cross the bridges towards Stormgarden. Instead take the road to the Mirror Marshes. You’ll find Hayden’s tent off to the road a short way into the marshes.

Finding his tent, there’s another note for you to read.

Not at home. Out on field work by the river.

Enter at your own risk.

Field Work by the River

Professor Hayden doesn’t seem to be here either, but he can’t be too far away…

On the ground you see a trail of footprints. If you follow them, perhaps they’ll lead you to Professor Hayden.

Objectives: Look for Hayden.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 15 with Crescent Moon Village

Follow the footprints across the road farther into the marsh until you find Hayden stuck in a rather deep predicament.

stuck_hayden

Two days in a row now, I’ve had to rescue someone stuck…

Reputation: 10 with Crescent Moon Village

I think you do need help. Hmph. Seniors…

Hmph…

Quest completed

______________

Blithering Bugs!

professor_hayden

Mm-hmm, and what could you possibly want then, Rita? I shouldn’t think you’re just out for a walk? If that’s the case, then you can just go for a walk somewhere I’m not. Okay?

What am I doing here?

Hmph. I’m studying the habitat of the Mirror Marshes. What are the Mirror Marshes? Hmph. Are you trying to make me laugh? I laughed once, and as I seem to remember it almost killed me. Hmph.

You’re standing in the Mirror Marshes. These ARE the Mirror Marshes.

I should probably add that it’s PROFESSOR Hayden, not just Hayden. I’ve been sent here to the Mirror Marshes by AAE to study the habitat. As you’ve probably already noticed, the area is completely unique. Thanks to the warm waters, the right conditions for quite unusual plant and animal life exist for them to live and thrive here. It’s said the crested beetle was found here for the first time in 1748.

Oh, blithering bugs? Where’s my bag?

Without my bag, I won’t be able to get a moment’s work done! Grrr!

(If you help Professor Hayden find his bag, perhaps it’ll be easier to talk to him a little more afterwards?)

Objectives: Find Professor Hayden’s bag.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 15 with Crescent Moon Village

Search around the area for Hayden’s bag and return to him when you find it.

professor_hayden

Well what use was that? Now I have to look after the wretched bag! Everything was easier when I didn’t have the bag. Ugh. Youths…

Quest completed

______________

Crumbled Cookies as Bait

professor_hayden

Hmph. Since you’ve inconvenienced me enough to have found my bag, you could probably try doing something useful instead…

What? Pamela? Bees? Hmm, I haven’t got time for some ludicrous bee-frightener. Focus now instead, Rita, how about that? FOCUS!!

Take these cookies. No, we’re not going to eat them. Or at least I’m not. Sugar is the most disgusting thing in existence. Sweet and sickly. Ugh. Nope, down with sugar and sweeties, thank you very much.

Listen now instead. Insects like all that sweet rubbish, and I’m here to study them. This is why we need to attract them and the best way of doing that is using bait.

Take these cookies and crumble them up over there. I’m sure it’ll be quite enough to attract a few specimens.

Chop chop!

Objectives: Crumble the cookies then talk to Hayden.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Crescent Moon Village

Spread cookie crumbs in three different places near the river, then return to Hayden.

professor_hayden

You can eat whatever’s left of the cookies if you like, but I shan’t partake. Ugh. Disgusting.

Quest completed

______________

You’re Not a Frog, Are You?

professor_hayden

Hmm, so you like eating cookies, do you? What do you think of insects?

Not to eat, of course! You’re not a frog, are you?

Hmph, anyway. Take this blanket and throw it out onto the ground so that we’ve got something to sit on while we wait for the insects to arrive.

Or maybe you’d prefer to stand?

Objectives: Lay out the blanket then talk to Hayden.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Crescent Moon Village

Place the blanket on the ground near where you placed the cookies, then return to Hayden.

professor_hayden

Hmph…

Quest completed

______________

10 Hours to Wait!

professor_hayden

Are you just going to stand there like some kind of crane? Sit down before your legs fall asleep. This kind of think isn’t for the delicate. Once upon a time I had to wait for THREE hours, it was simply ghastly! TEN hours is what it should take! At least! Otherwise it doesn’t feel as though one has waited properly.

Sit yourself down so we can wait for these little critters to appear.

Objectives: Sit down and wait for the insects with Hayden.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 20 with Crescent Moon Village

Sit down next to Hayden and start your dreadful wait.

professor_hayden

You’ll just have to say if you can’t cope with the wait. It takes serious patience for this kind of research.

Quest completed

______________

Centipedes, Beetles, and Ants, Oh My!

professor_hayden

Look Rita! Have you seen? Centipedes, beetles, and ants! All of them have been lured in by the sweet smell of cookies. Here are three glass jars!

Place one of each type of insect in a jar so I can get a better look at them.

Chop chop!

Objectives: Trap three different kinds of insects in the glass jars.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Crescent Moon Village

Well technically, centipedes aren’t insects, but now’s not the time to split hairs…

Use the glass jars from your inventory to capture each of the bugs, then return to Hayden.

professor_hayden

Fascinating, beautiful little beings! Don’t you agree?

Quest completed

______________

Fabulous Little Critters!

professor_hayden

Oh, how I love ants! Wonderful animals, wouldn’t you say? Did you know that certain types of ants can carry objects that weigh fifty times their own body weight? That’s like you being able to carry a car. Or more accurately, an adult giraffe. Ants are wonderful little animals. Sorry, you said something about Pamela and bees?

Hmm, yes, let’s talk about it later instead.

We need to gather a little bit of the insects’ surroundings and place it in the jars so that my little friends can feel at home while I study them.

Objectives: Gather some moss, twigs, and leaves for the insects.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 15 with Crescent Moon Village

Use the bug jars to gather habitat stuff, then return to Hayden when the bugs are made to feel at home.

professor_hayden

Look! Just look how delighted they are now they’ve got twigs and moss!

Quest completed

______________

She Just Wants to Play

professor_hayden

Right, what have you been trying to tell me about Pamela and the bees?

WHAT?! Pamela chased Alberta away from her bees? Grrr! How dare she? Alberta is so kind, and wouldn’t hurt a fly! Well, she certainly won’t have wanted to destroy any beehives. She probably just wanted to play.

I need to find Alberta at once! If Pamela scared her off with a broom, then she must be terrified. Don’t worry Alberta, I’m coming!

We’ll need to take the insects to my tent, would you help me carry them there?

Gosh, how helpful you are. Be careful so that you don’t drop my insects as you ride. See you over at the tent.

Objectives: Take the jars of insects to Hayden’s camping spot.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 20 with Crescent Moon Village

Ride carefully and slowly to Hayden’s tent. If the meter fills up, the jars will break and you will have to start again.

Meet Hayden by his tent.

professor_hayden

I need to hurry away and look for Alberta now. Not a good idea you come. Alberta is rather skittish around new people.

Quest completed

Return to Professor Hayden tomorrow.

Mirror Marshes and the Moon Spring

professor_hayden

Alberta got home safely yesterday. She’s a cheeky little rascal, so I expect she was only just a bit bored. She promised me she’d stay home today though, and not go picking fights with Pamela’s bees.

You can meet Alberta later, she’s just a bit shy around new people. She’s fuzzy and cuddly, a big ball of snuggles if you ask me. Hmph.

I was just thinking… Umm… Hmph. Not that you’d be interested. If you had nothing better to do, then perhaps you’d like to see how I work?

Oh? You think it sounds exciting? Hmph. Youths.

So the insects yesterday weren’t really ‘work,’ that’s more to do with my hobbies. As I’m sure you remember, I said I was working for AAE and I’m here to investigate and study the Mirror Marshes.

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, the temperature around here is a little different than in other places. This is down to the warm water that runs from the Moon Spring.

Why is the water warm? Hmph. It’s obvious. The old volcano that was here is providing the heat. That’s my theory anyway. There are some blockheads around who think they’ve got other explanations, but if you ask me, it’s the volcano. Hmph.

Now you know why I’m here and today I need to focus on collecting samples of the earth and water.

Enough about the Mirror Marshes, and the Moon Spring, and the volcano. We’ve got more important things to concentrate on.

Objectives: Talk to Hayden.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Crescent Moon Village

Okie dokie, let’s get to it.

professor_hayden

Now you know why I’m here. Today I’ve got to focus on gathering samples from the earth and water.

Quest completed

I Had Fun Once… It Was Awful

professor_hayden

Rita! Time to focus on the soil.

If I’m going to be able to test the soil in the Mirror Marshes and perform the necessary measurements, I need to gather samples from the ground.

What? You want to do it? This isn’t fun?! It shouldn’t be fun!! I had fun once and it was AWFUL!

Hmph. Well, by all means go and collect the samples, but don’t have fun.

Blithering bugs, these youths…

Objectives: Collect dirt samples then talk to Hayden.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 25 with Crescent Moon Village

Dismount your horse and use the glass vial to collect samples from the area around the river, then return to Hayden.

professor_hayden

Hmph. You got them? And they’re from different places?

Quest completed

______________

Easier to Frown Than Smile

professor_hayden

Hmm? You think I should smile more? Hmph, let me tell you something Rita. You use more muscles in your face when you frown than you do when you smile, so what can I say? I like to work out. Hmph.

But enough of that, we need to gather water samples for my tests.

Mm-hmm? You want to collect them. Hmph. Of course you do. Well, by all means, go ahead, but it’s important that you pick them up from three different locations around the marshes.

Good, you get it. So, three different water samples is what I want.

Objectives: Gather water samples then talk to Hayden.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 25 with Crescent Moon Village

Collect water samples in the same manner you did with the soil samples, then return to Hayden.

professor_hayden

Hmph. I must admit that went rather quickly. Hmm. Enough with the compliments for today.

Quest completed

______________

Live in a Barrel and Smell Awful

professor_hayden

Hmph. Now we’ve got the soil and water samples we need. Time we walk back to the tent.

Blithering bugs, I do not enjoy going on walks.

Oh no, no, no, I don’t think so. I shan’t sit up on your horse and get a ride back. This should be all about trudging all the the way back until my feet are covered in blisters. Ideally, I’d like to live like Diogenes, the Greek philosopher. He lived in a barrel and smelled awful.

It’s not fantastic, it’s awful. But what a dream it would be to live like that. Thoroughly wonderful.

I’ll get to work on these blisters and see you back at the tent.

Objectives: Ride to Hayden’s camping spot and talk to Hayden.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 20 with Crescent Moon Village

Are you talking about smiling more again Rita?! Smiling is overrated. Almost as overrated as always looking on the bright side of life. I tried that once but brightness of the bright side blinded me so much that my eyes hurt and I had to spend 38 days in a cellar studying centipedes. Horrible experience, and I loved every minute.

But yes! The earth samples! If we’re to get any results at all before they’re too old, we’ll have to get a move on.

Umm… Yes, would you, erm, like to carry on helping? Hmph. Youths…

I’ll tell you what to do to be able to test the soil samples. Just follow my instructions.

Objectives: Follow Hayden’s instructions to be able to test the soil.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: 20 with Crescent Moon Village

Pick up the vials and mix out the liquids in the order that Hayden tells you.

professor_hayden

Hmm… Interesting.

Quest completed

______________

An Interesting Result

professor_hayden

Hurry Rita! We need to write down the results! Here, take my notepad and pen and help me not down the numbers I say to you.

Objectives: Write down the results from the soil tests then talk to Hayden.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 15 with Crescent Moon Village

Use the pen and paper to take notes of the results of you testing.

professor_hayden

Hmph. So this is the result. Interesting.

Quest completed

______________

A Better Assistant Than Alberta

professor_hayden

Hmm… The results from the soil tests are most interesting. I don’t know whether that’s something to be especially excited about, but it’s certainly of interest.

I must admit you’re a better assistant than Alberta. She just runs around and wants to play and cuddle all the time, so I can’t ever have her with me out in the field.

Ah well, we should run the tests on the water samples and see what they come up with.

Oh, you want to help me with those as well? Then I suppose we’ll get going.

Objectives: Follow Hayden’s instructions for testing the water samples.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: 20 with Crescent Moon Village

Test the water samples in the same way you did with the soil samples.

professor_hayden

This was… Unexpected…

Quest completed

______________

You Write, I Shout

professor_hayden

Quick, Rita! We need to write down the results. I’ll shout them out, you write them down.

Objectives: Write down the results from the water tests then talk to Hayden.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 15 with Crescent Moon Village

Use the pen and paper again to write down the new results.

professor_hayden

Hmm… I need to write up this report.

Quest completed

______________

Half a Thank You

professor_hayden

There we go! Now I’ve got a good report together that shows the different values to be found in the water and the soil. I’ll have to retake the samples though so that we can see if the values differ from day to day. Now, since it seems as though you’ve sort of become my assistant, you’ll need to come back and help me. Hmph… I don’t really think I’m about to be all emotional and shower you with thank yous, so…

We need to mail this report. Could you ride out and post it?

Objectives: Post the report in the mailbox then talk to Professor Hayden.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP, Black Suede Helmet

Reputation: 15 with Crescent Moon Village

Ride into Crescent Moon Village and put the report into the red mail box, then return to Professor Hayden.

professor_hayden

This isn’t any kind of thank you. Hmph. It’s just something I had laying around. That I bought. To say… Ugh. Just take it, there you go.

Quest completed

So there is a little glimmer of kindness inside your angry heart, old man.

You are now able to visit Professor Hayden to complete daily quests to collect and test soil and water samples.

The Secret Soul Rider- Part 3

I have just got back from a meeting with Alex and Linda. Its crazy how after almost a year we haven’t found Justin yet! We’ve searched all over Jorvik: From Epona to Fort Pinta and From GHV to Dino Valley. And still no sign of Justin…

But we have a plan…

To instantly bring Justin back and brainwash him, we need another soul rider. Linda’s found 2 girls who could be a match. I have met them, spoken to them and even done the fake test that Elizabeth and Mrs Smith did o me a year ago. But they failed miserably. There is this other mysterious girl named Ivy Camphood who lives on the outskirts of Jorvik Stables. I am on my way to meet her. Legend has it, her family are a certain kind of creepy druids. Everyone knows not to talk to them. They don’t talk to you either. Soul rider or not. And something tells me that they won’t make and exception for anyone…

Linda, Alex and I have recently arrived at Jorvik Stables, dropped our horses off and made our way to Ivy’s cobbled old Victorian house. Alex knocks on the front door, her fingers trembling with fear. No reply. We decided to go around to the back of the house instead. I push the open, wincing as it squeaks with terror. I have got to be brave. Remember, this is for Justin. Linda tiptoes into the house, with me and Alex following her. She calls out” Ivy. Are you home? We just want to talk to you.,” No reply…. again.

I decide to take charge by marching into the living room, demanding to speak to Ivy. Ivy looks up from her book on horses and walks over to me, with a hint of a magical soul rider look to her. I ask her to answer the following questions:

Name: Ivy Camphood

Are you nitrated in horses?: No

Then why are you reading that horse book?: Ok, maybe I do have a tiny passion for horses…

Do you believe in magic and miracles?: Not normally. But I do believe in horse magic.

Does that include soul riders?: Yes, definitely

“Anyway why do you want to know?,” Questioned Ivy.

Linda told her that we ere just interested. Well now your done with your little investigation , its time for you to leave. NOW!

We leave quickly. Once we’re out of the house, Alex, Linda and I screech, I think we’ve found our soul rider! “She’s just like one!,” I exclaim. She’s Feisty, Strong and believes in magic!

Now we have just got to tell her…

Day 121, Runestone Investigation – Spoiler Alert

Speak to Alex and the other Soul Riders outside the stable at Silverglade Winery.

Be Vigilant: Watch and Wait

alex

Nothing beats a little rest…

I’ve spoken to the druids and they have a new set of directives for us.

Ready to get stuck in again?

Hope you’re as excited as I am…

Objectives: Listen to Alex.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Alex will explain her plan to continue to watch Dark Core.

alex

Right then, my friends.

What we need to do is be vigilant: watch and wait.

Of course we’re missing our friend Anne, but Fripp and the druids are currently working out a safe way of traveling to Pandoria to look for her.

Until then, there’s nothing we can do for her.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

It feels terrible to just sit and wait. It’s unbearable to know that our friend is there and we’re here doing nothing.

I know how horrendous it is there.

Believe me when I say that every second you’re there feels like a nightmare a hundred times worse than death.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

I know, Lisa. I know.

But it’s just like Alex and the druids say. We can’t do anything now.

We wait and see if the druids come up with a safe way…

They must be able to!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

But if it takes too long…?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

…Then we take matters into our own hands.

Count on it.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Agreed. Anyway, now it’s time to plan and prepare while the enemy forges their dark plans.

When they strike, we need to be prepared. Strike faster, strike harder.

We want to know if Dark Core and the Dark Riders are up to something awfully suspect.

The very worst thing that could happen would be if they started the Dark Ceremony to open the cracks between Pandoria’s unreality and our reality.

That would mean that the flow between the two worlds would run completely out of control and both worlds would collapse.

Or worse…

We’ve got no idea when or where they’re going to strike. We’re not ever sure exactly how either, but Fripp and the druids are trying to work it all out.

If we get more information from the druids, we might have some new tasks to complete, but until then, we need to stay vigilant, keep watching and waiting.

Raise the alarm and take action if something unexpected occurs.

I did a little surveillance last night and found a number of suitable locations for observation.

I’ve informed the Spymaster of the newly developing situation. He and his agents, the chipmunks, and whatever else he’s got working for him are all on high alert and will let us know if they notice anything of interest.

Linda, I thought you could perhaps be our liaison and base yourself out of the library where you provide the druids with your analysis of the scriptures.

We’ll report to you Linda, and the best place for you right now is studying those texts and helping the druids to interpret them.

Okay?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Yes, Alex.

I’ll keep my head in the books and be ready to receive your reports as well as keeping an eye on your observation schedules. You’ll always know where I am.

See you in the Winery’s library whenever you need me.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Me, Rita, and you Alex… We’re out in the field, right?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Correct, Lisa.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Brilliant.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Good. Then it looks like we’re ready to get started.

I’ve got the map right here with all the observation spots marked out. I think Observation Station #42 will be perfect for you Rita.

It’s a great lookout spot towards the sea, and you can get a closer look at Dark Core HQ.

You’ll definitely see if someone’s on their way towards us from Dark Core…

Quest completed

______________

Binoculars Fit for Purpose

You’ll definitely need a pair if you’re going to be able to keep watch properly. You can borrow mine if you like? I’ve got plenty in stocky, haha.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP, Alex’s Binoculars

alex

Here, you can borrow these for as long as you need them.

You can use them more than once.

Uneventful day… I’ll come back tomorrow.

But, wait…

Who’s howling like that?!

Sounds like somebody’s screaming for help…?

Quest completed

Return to Observation Station tomorrow.

In the meantime, let’s go down the hill and see who needs help.

Help! Help! Help!

sonja

Help! Oh gosh, there you are Rita! My friend!

It’s me, Sonja!

Objectives: Ask Sonja what happened.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

What are you doing down here crying, silly girl?

sonja

How lovely to see you!

Sniffle…

You’ve got no idea…

Ow, ow, ow! I’ve got such a headache! Well, it aches all over actually! Sniffle.

Let me tell you about it.

Quest completed

______________

Sonja’s Unhappy Hardship

sonja

Sniffle…

My head hurts so much… Sniffle…

I was out on a long ride with my horse around all the beautiful countryside and galloped past one of the runestones… You know, the ones that are all over the place around here.

You know the ones…

This particular runestone just suddenly making weird noises and lighting up pink… My poor horse went crazy and just ran away! I wasn’t ready for it and ended up landing on my head.

Sniffle…

Objectives: Talk to Sonja.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

That’s what you get for not wearing a helmeeeeeet!

sonja

Where my horse and my helmet are? Where my horse is right now, I’ve got no idea. I guess I was just too lazy to put my helmet on before I came out. I learned my lesson now though… I’ll never ride without a helmet again.

Sniffle…

Now I’m feeling really dizzy and everything hurts!

Typical.

Quest completed

______________

The Call of the Runestone

sonja

Which runestone was the one that scared us? Sniffle…

That one. That one over there. By the seashore. The one that looks exactly like the other stupid runestones.

Take a look at it, why don’t you? Be sure to come back and help me afterwards though, if that’s okay?

Objectives: Examine the runestone then return to Sonja.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

The runestone is glowing with energy and runes circling in the air around it. What could this mean…?

sonja

I agree with you, that runestone is definitely… Strange.

And it’s ugly. Stupid ugly runestone.

Quest completed

______________

Ambulance!

sonja

Please could you do me a huge favor and take me to the clinic in Jarlaheim? I don’t think I could get there on my own. Sniffle.

I don’t think I’m very seriously injured but you never know, better to get the vet to take a look at me and see if I should head to the hospital.

Could you take me on the back of your horse to the veterinarian in Jarlaheim?

Sniffle…

Objectives: Take Sonja to the vet in Jarlaheim for a check-up.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Ugh, it hurts me just watching you ride, you pitiful girl, what is that?!

dino_valley_vet

Oh…

No helmet?

Hmph. You see, kids these days!

Now then Sonja, you might have been lucky and only scored yourself a mild concussion, but let’s have a look at you…

Quest completed

______________

Tell Linda About the Runestone

sonja

Thanks for taking me to the vet, Rita. You’re a true friend. That whole runestone thing was really bizarre. What did you say you were doing now? You’re going to meet Linda and tell her your findings? Say hey to her from me! Thanks so much again for your help.

Objectives: Report to Linda in the library at the Winery.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Return to the library and tell Linda everything that’s happened.

linda

Hey Rita! How’s it going? I’m just sitting here studying a bunch of ancient texts…

Mm-hmm…?

Quest completed

______________

Locate Alex

linda

Yup, I get you.

I reckon that’s something you should talk to Alex about. She usually tells us about how she goes out and “talks to the runestones” sometimes… Some kind of errand for the druids, apparently. Some kind of measurement she takes. She’ll probably know more about why the runestones have been behaving strangely.

I’m not sure what it could all mean. You should tell Alex all about it.

I’ve no idea where Alex is right now though. She’s not out in the field on errands. Not according to my notes, anyway.

Check the stables? Talk to a few of the people out there in the yard maybe? Perhaps someone’s seen her…

Objectives: Check with the people around the Winery and see were Alex is.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

The person you need is Tyra. You can talk to others and they will tell you either they haven’t seen Alex, or to ask if Tyra has seen her. You can skip talking to others and go directly to Tyra.

tyra

Hi Rita!

Are you looking for Alex?

Yeah, she said something earlier before she and Tin-Can galloped away east over…

Hm.

What was it?

Let me think…

Quest completed

______________

Brother James

tyra

Yes, now I remember!

Alex said something or other about family issues before she left. That nuisance James is her little brother, right?

Must be some scrape he’s gotten into that she’ll have to fix up as usual! Typical James. If I were you, I’d go to Fort Pinta and talk to him.

Objectives: Talk to James in Fort Pinta.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Ride or transport to Fort Pinta and seek James for information about Alex.

james

Ah.

Yeah, of course…

Alex. Yep.

Alex At the Mall

Alex is going to meet our mother at the mall in Jorvik City. She took the bus out there a little while ago. You’ll be sure to find her there in the cafe, I’m sure.

It’s not so often we get to see mama these days, just so you know. She’s just difficult. Always wants to borrow money from me, and that’s just not happening.

Objectives: Take the bus to Jorvik City Plaza and look for Alex there.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Make sure you have your bus ticket with you. Once at the mall, you can find Alex at a table with her mother in the back of the cafe.

alex

Rita! Welcome!

Mama, this is Rita.

Rita, this is my lovely old mother.

Quest completed

______________

Mother & Daughter

alex

Wait a second, Rita.

Me and my mother are just gonna finish up here. We’re almost done, I’ll be right there.

Objectives: Wait until Alex and her mother are done talking.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

What do you mean, wait? Don’t you mean eavesdrop… Since you pretty much stand there staring while they converse.

alex

Where were we…

Yes, mama! I’ve told you, you can stop thinking like that!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

There’s nobody who cares about me anymore…

I’m not only abandoned, I’m a bad mother as well.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Mama!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

I’ve been abandoned by everyone…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

No, you know that’s not true. We love you mama!

All of your children love you. Stop saying those things, we all know they’re not true.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

No, no, no…

I’m such a terrible mother… I’ve failed you all.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Now you really can stop this. You’re our beloved mother and you haven’t had it easy, we all know that. That dad more or less disappeared isn’t your fault, and it’s not our fault either. It was his choice.

You had to take care of us single handedly, which was no small feat, we all know that now.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

No, it was no small feat, and I didn’t succeed. Y’know…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

No! You can’t say that! It’s not easy to take care of five kids on your own…

Look at us now! If I must say so myself, you did a great job! It’s all thanks to you that we’re here! We love life and we love you. Without you, we’d never be what we are now, and we owe you everything.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

You really mean that?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Of course! You’re our beloved mama, and you mean the world to us so stop blaming yourself for things you had no control over that never really had such a bad effect on us anyway. You made our upbringing something special. Without you, the Cloudmill family would just be dust in a storm. We have a lot to thank you for.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

But I didn’t have any money. I didn’t have time to give you all the attention you needed…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Listen mama, I’ve told you that you shouldn’t blame yourself… You’re the only person who thinks you’ve done something awful. Don’t take our happy childhood memories away from us now by saying such terrible things.

It’s only you who suffers from carrying all this terrible weight, and none of it is even true, so it’s wrong!

So stop this. Now. Just take a look at all the good things instead.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

If you say so.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Come on, shake it off! Just show me a smile and I’ll come and celebrate Christmas with you.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

Smile!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

There you go! I knew it! There was a little smile right there! Christmas is saved!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

Alex…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Yes, mother?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

I love you too. Thank you for being here, you’re certainly the wisest of us Cloudmills. Thanks for taking time to cheer up your hopeless old mother…

Everything feels much better now.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Thanks…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_cloudmill

Look Alex, I think you have a visitor. Looks like that lovely horse girl over there wants something…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Thanks for waiting a while… Mothers, huh?! They can be so down on themselves. They never seem to understand that you just love your parents whatever they do. They only ever want the best for us, we know that. Even if it’s not always right every time.

Ah well, I guess you didn’t come here to talk about mothers and families, right?

Quest completed

Runestone News

alex

Oooh, the runestones, yeah. I usually measure their activity, but I’ve not had time recently.

I suppose it’s time I got out and took a look at them though…

I check the runestones so that I can calculate how active Pandoria is and whether there’s a strong flow between our reality and Pandoria’s unreality. This is crucial information for Fripp and the Keepers of Aideen.

Hmm… You’re pretty advanced and you’ve come a long way with the Lightning Circle. Maybe you could help me take the readings from the runestones? Talk to Elizabeth about it, just to make sure she’s okay with it. You’ll really be needing your own rune wand by now as well. Get permission from Elizabeth and fix up a rune wand and I’ll meet you tomorrow by that runestone there.

Objectives: Talk to Elizabeth in Valedale.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Leave the mall and find your way to Valedale to speak to Elizabeth outside her house.

elizabeth_sunbeam

I see that you’re traveling in the light of Aideen, Rita. Welcome back to my humble little village. What’s on your mind this time, my friend?

Quest completed

______________

Permission and a Wand

elizabeth_sunbeam

I can assure you that you have full permission from the Keepers of Aideen to support Alex and the others in their collection of runestone readings.

Come to think of it, we should have done this before now!

Rune wands are incredibly rare artifacts. You’ve been able to loan mine before now, but I can’t give it away. It’s time for you to have your own, but I think this is the kind of thing only Fripp can help you with. I know he’s incredibly busy right now with working out what we’re going to do next, as well as working out a safe way in and out of Pandoria.

He’ll have to find a little time to help you though.

Objectives: Ride to Fripp in the secret stone ring by riding in a spiral by the runestones above Elizabeth’s house.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Meet Fripp in the Secret Stonering.

fripp

Greetings Rita! Time is against us. The time before us was long and the time we have left is minimal. Don’t despair though! It’s right now in the moment that everything happens! You’re here now, are you not?

Quest completed

______________

A Trip to Fripp

fripp

And who really are you? Really? Who are you?

And what IS reality? Here and now? What is it?

My winding and weaving star alignments are spinning and splicing a pattern that I soon will be unable to deny… Do you know who you are…? No. Who could even answer such a question anyway…?

Fripp must weave and knit and stitch more patterns together… Sew and braid and think and fold and count and think and think and Fripp, Fripp, Fripp!

Rune wand, you say?

Objectives: Convince Fripp you need a rune wand. Now.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Don’t go getting all deeply philosophical and weird on me now, my little fuzzy friend…

fripp

Okay. If you say so. I suppose it’ll be quicker for me to just give you a wand rather than spend time telling you all the reasons why you shouldn’t have one.

I’ve seen in my timelines that you’ll have one later anyway. Later, in that which we most often call the future.

Quest completed

______________

A Rune Wand of Your Very Own

fripp

I’m going to open a very tiny fracture right now between Pandoria’s unreality and our reality. That’s where your rune wand should materialize. When you see it, hurry and grab it before the fracture needs to be closed again. Ready?

Objectives: Keep an eye on what’s happening. Be prepared to take the rune wand.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP, Rune Wand

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Watch as a rift is opened and a rune wand rises out of it. Ride forward and click to take the wand. Once you have it, speak to Fripp and he will close the rift.

fripp

So there we are, Rita. Your very own rune wand. Take care of it now.

Off you go to the runestone where you’re supposed to meet Alex and learn about how to measure Pandoric activity.

Or was it tomorrow you were supposed to meet her?

Tomorrow… Yesterday, it’s all the same.

The lines cross all the time, lines, liney-winey, linery binary binary… Time is always wobbling and bending…

Quest completed

You can now leave the Secret Stonering and return to your business for the day.

Meet Alex by the glowing runestone on Paddock Island tomorrow.

The Rider Game’s: Chapter 4

“Give a big round of applause to the lovely Katalin Aideen, the flourishing dark swan of Jorvik!” I hear the loud, roaring applause of the crowds, I see the bright, blinding glow of the stage lights, I sense the atmosphere of the tall stage, I see Evea Loveheart, Jorvik’s Rider’s Games show host. I take one last look at the dark, peaceful hallway, then make my way up the steps and to the stage. I’m rewarded with applause and yells of praise as I sit down next to Evea on the plush sofa. Evea’s hair is dyed magenta and piled up high like a beehive, eyes coated in some sort of pink colour, lips white. “Hey Evea” I say, waving shyly to the crowds. “And hello Miss Aideen! Give her a round of applause, folks!” And of course, the audience replies with an even louder round of applause. “Ok Katalin, so who’s your trusty steed for the Games?” Evea asks me, and the crowd goes silent on cue. “Um,” I say awkwardly, fidgeting. “Steed? I don’t recall anyone saying I need a horse.” Evea looks at me like I’m crazy then bursts into loud chuckles. “Hear that audience? What a joker! Now, Katalin,” “Kat.” I interrupt. “Kat, my dear, have you befriended a Quarter? I’ve heard Morgans are very in style! Or perhaps a Shire? Sturdy steeds!” Evea tells me enthusiastically, and I interrupt quickly. “Evea, I wasn’t told I had to ride a horse. I’m telling the truth.” Evea frowns for just a second, then plasters her face with a grin. “Oh Kat! Don’t try to fool us! What a sense of humour.” The audience laughs in agreement. “So, my friend, so far what is your favourite part of Jorvik City?” I pause to think and I frown at the sentence. “Wait, what?” The sentence echoes in my head and suddenly nothing makes sense. “Kat,” Evea presses, “what is your favourite part of Jorvik City so far?”

“Umm, Urm..” I place a shaking hand to my forehead. “I don’t know.” That one sentence creates a sudden, terrifying silence in the room. The audience is silent. “Headaches. That’s the worst thing. I really shouldn’t have had that wine last night.” I moan, clutching my head and trying to stop feeling so dizzy. Slowly, I hear a vague chuckle coming from the crowd. The chuckle grows, until all the  audience is roaring with laughter. Evea joins in, tears running down her painted face. “Stop- no, stop- my sides are actually splitting, look!” She cries, wiping her eyes with a silk handkerchief. I’m really confused, but I grin like I meant for all this to happen.

“Ok, ok, ok. We’ve spent so much time frolicking about that we’ve spent two minutes of our time. Now Kat, this may be a hard question to answer, but what was the hardest thing about leaving home?” Evea asks me, suddenly solemn. The audience quietens and the room is full of tension. “Well, I guess leaving my family, my home, knowing I’ll never see them again. That was hard. The easiest part was leaving the pigs, they never warmed to me.” I say, smirking as  I finish my words. Evea chuckles lightly and the audience follows. “Wonderful, wonderful. Now, Katalin, I must praise your stylist for creating such a beautiful dress for your interview. Might we have a little twirl?” I nod and get up, patting my white skirts.

I spin round, and as I twirl, the white of my dress seems to grow, until it isn’t just white. The white feathers are embellished with black jewels, and when I raise my sleeves I see that I have wings.

The crowd is roaring with excitement, because I have been made into a swan.

“Alright, alright! What a fabulous piece of art your stylist has created. Give her a round of applause! Now, I have one last question for you my dear. Did you have any.. Hm, how do we put this- suitors back home? Beautiful girl like you. Anyone you liked?” Evea asks me, winking. I hesitate, squirming. “Well, there might be one boy.” Evea leans in, fascinated. “Go on!” “Well, I really like him but it’s not like we can be together because..” The whole crowd goes silent. “In a few days, I’m going to have to kill him.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What the hell are you playing at?! Are you insane, Katalin? We’re on opposite sides. Even letting Jorvik know we’re friends is crazy!” He yells, pinning me against a wall. “Hey, Connor, don’t you get it? This is exciting, this will earn you sponsors. ‘The Dark And Light Lovers?’ People will love it!” Damon explains. “But we’re not lovers.” Connor says angrily, though any fool can see he looks conflicted. “So? This whole thing is a game. Make your relationship a game too, just more realistic. Got it, boy?”Connor is pretty much choking me as his arm is against my throat, and I gasp for breath. “Connor..”
Everyone watches with tense breaths as Connor pulls away and I fall to the floor with a gasp. I give him my fiercest glare and walk slowly back to my room. I lie on my bed, fidgeting on the too soft covers. Connor isn’t what I thought he was, he isn’t different to any of the Dark Riders. He’s exactly the same. Maybe killing him won’t be so hard.
This is a big development, gotta notify the other Soul Riders!
linda
Hello Rita. Any news?
Quest completed
______________
Inspect HQ
linda
Interesting. Something might be going on there that has some meaning. It could just as well be something completely pointless, but perhaps you’ll find something of interest there anyway. Hmm…
Thinking about it, we haven’t been there for quite some time and you seem to know the place pretty well by now…
Head over to Dark Core’s headquarters and look into what’s going on. Go to Cape West Fishing Village and take the little boat with the helmsman who’ll take you to Dark Core’s mysterious headquarters.
Good luck Rita. Be careful.
In Dark Core’s shadows, no one can hear you scream.
Objectives: Take the boat in Cape West Fishing Village and sail to Dark Core’s secret headquarters.
Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP
Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen
Gee, thanks Linda. That’s quite a pleasant thought to leave off on.
Take the boat to Dark Core’s headquarters and step up onto the landing platform.
self
Here again. I need to be extra careful to get around here unnoticed…
______________
Sneaking on Tiptoes
self
It looks like there’s yet more activity on the helipad up there. Up where that weird portal is…
I can’t sneak up there with my horse without getting caught, so I suppose I’ll have to get off my horse here.
Objectives: Find out what is happening up on the helipad.
Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP
Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen
Remember: To be able to hide yourself behind a box to avoid being caught, you need to use the button in the bottom right corner of your screen (where the dismount button usually is) which will only show as active when you can hide yourself. Don’t forget it can be easier to control your character if you hold down your right mouse button as you walk.
Follow the same route you did when you first visited. The guards still walk the same routine as previously.
Make your way up the helipad and find a place you can discretely watch the unfolding scene.
Seems something’s going on here…
______________
Darko
self
I need to hide and listen to this… Carefully does it…
Objectives: What could be happening?
Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP
Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen
This guy Darko looks important. He looks about to say something important to those Dark Core members gathered.
darko
But I’ve also got some good news. Listen, my honorable Generals.
The swirls of darkness are strong, and now they twist in our favor.
The druids and that idiot Fripp are thought to be especially passive, and Pandoria’s powers are pulsing like never before. These powers united are our driving force, our lifeblood.
Experience tells us that it is time to act. Now.
We must, however, be on our guard. We must always be on guard!
There is another person on Jorvik whose presence is far from desirable for us…
I feel her presence.
Hmm… Her presence is much stronger than I could ever have suspected…
…Almost as though she was… Almost…
But of course she can’t be here!
Hahaha!
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
dark_rider
Hahaha!
Of course not, Associate Darko. Haha! How would she ever know? Hahaha.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
darko
Well in any case, you all know who I mean.
It’s time to dispose of her, if you see her again. She represents a threat to us, our cause, and to Garnok!
I’m here now to use this visit to tell you that it begins here. Our time has come. It’s our day. The day of the Generals!
But you’re missing your fourth associate…
However much our honorable Mr Sands wants his innocent little grandson to take on the role of potential substitute for our most distinguished Elise, both you and I know that Justin has no magical talent whatsoever.
That boy will never even learn to vanish a coin.
We’re moving close to Elise’s release, our most celebrated Nihili, the fourth General. Don’t do a thing until she’s here.
You need her. You need each other. Garnok needs you all!
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
dark_rider
Yes! Yes, Nihili! Yes!
At last!
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
darko
I know that she’s capable of causing a certain… Insecurity within the group. Discord. But you all know that she is the way she is.
Never forget that you’re a unit, and must act as such!
The Dark Horse I’ve taken with me is in fact owned by Elise. We lost Pi, so I had to create a Dark Horse myself.
Take care of it until she’s here.
When Elise is reunited with you all, the four Generals will gather for the first time and then it’s time for you to ride out and perform the Dark Ceremony at the currently secret location.
That was all for now.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
dark_rider
No, Associate Darko. We very much look forward to the four Generals being reunited.
We’ll take care of Elise’s Dark Horse, and rehearse the Dark Ceremony as we wait to make our next move.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
darko
Good.
May the tentacles of Garnok guide you, and may the darkness flow from your footsteps.
I’ll return soon. With Elise.
This is not good. Not good at all…
self
Ugh, what a scary creep. He seems really evil and has some truly terrible plans. I’m getting really bad vibes from this…
Quest completed
______________
To the Control Center!
self
I need to leave Dark Core before they find out I’m here. I need to tell Linda all of this as quickly as possible.
Objectives: Report to Linda.
Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP
Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen
Leave the helipad by running on the pipes back down to the lower level. Retrieve your horse and return back to Cape West, so you may continue on to the winery to report to Linda.
linda
Hey Rita! I’ve been reading a whole TON of exciting stuff in these books, and…
Oh?
You look pretty troubled…?
Quest completed
______________
Compilation for Linda
linda
Darko is a huge threat to us. He seems to be Mr Sands’ right-hand man in some way.
He’s a lecturer, like a typical teacher… He seems to be able to create dark horses as well, which he taught Pi how to do… This is bad. Very bad. If the fourth general gets back with the rest of them, I think our chances of keeping them in checkmate reduce hugely…
This is important news, it’s amazing that you took the risk of spying on them.
I’m especially worried for Justin. What are they gonna do with him if they see him as useless to their cause? Sure they wont just let him wander away on his own little path even if he is Mr Sands’ grandson…
Hmm… What’s our next move?
Objectives: Listen to Linda.
Rewards: 45 Jorvik Shillings, 65 XP
Reputation: 25 with Keepers of Aideen
That’s a good question, my friend.
linda
I’m going to call a meeting of the wider advisory council of the druids. We can’t have a meeting with them right away now since they’re all spread out across the island to watch and spy…
We’ll just have to wait until we can get them all back in one place.
Patience, Rita… Patience.
Quest completed
Now let’s go see Alex about that weird runestone. Meet her on Paddock Island by where you found Sonja yesterday.
Waiting by a Stone
runestone
Alex should be here by now…
Objectives: Wait by the runestone until Alex comes.
Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP
Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen
Watch as Alex and Tin Can approach. Now we can begin!
alex
Hello hello! Sorry I’m a bit late.
Have you got your own rune wand now?
Quest completed
______________
Measuring Pandoric Activity
alex
Congrats on your rune wand!
By getting daily readings of the Pandoric activity from the active runestones, the Keepers of Aideen can tell how strong the flow is between our two worlds and then make sure what preparations and countermeasures they need to make.
At the same time as you’re doing all this measuring, you’ll be getting closer and closer to the Inner Lightning Circle, and I’ll tell you more about that later.
But right now I’m gonna tell you how to measure Pandoric activity. You ready?
Objectives: Listen to Alex.
Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP
Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen
Alex will now tell you how to begin the crucial step of measurements.
alex
Examine the first stone and work out if it’s possible to scan or not. Right now, there are quite a few runestones that seem ready for scanning since you can see they’re highly active…
If it can be scanned, dismount your horse and use the rune wand on the runestone while performing an analysis incantation. Then you’ll find yourself inside a magical time bubble where you can measure the runestone’s activity. The time bubble only lasts for a limited time.
The runestone will show you which runes you need to capture from the magical ether surrounding us. After showing the runes on the stone and playing the rune’s magic tones, it’ll become clear which runes you need to collect.
If you choose incorrectly, you’ll lose a lot of energy. You can always listen to the runes in the magical either, but as soon as you choose a rune it has to be the right one, and they need to be chosen in the correct order.
If you take the right rune in the right order, you’ll win some magical energy and get a little extra time as a result.
When you’ve chosen all the runes, the measurement is complete!
As clear as a thunderbolt from a clear blue sky? Clear as mud?
You’ll definitely get it once you’ve done the first measurement.
You’re going to do that first measurement right now.
Quest completed
______________
First Test
alex
Ready to give your first measurement a try? Great. Test this runestone here, then talk to me when you’re done.
Have a go at taking a reading from this runestone. Use your rune wand on it and do as I told you. It’s not really as hard as I make it sound. Read the runes and capture the ones that match in the magical ether.
In order.
Once you’re done, you’ll have completed a magical reading of Pandoric activity.
Objectives: Perform the measurements. Use your rune wand on an active runestone.
Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP
Reputation: 50 with The Keepers of Aideen: The Lightning’s Inner Circle
Dismount your horse and approach the runestone, then use your rune wand on it. You will then see a screen similar to when you closed the Pandoric rifts.
This screen has the current runestone in the center with the needed runes on it (each one will have different runes you will need). There are five runes you will need to select out of about two dozen that are slowly circling around the runestone. Click each one in the correct order before time runs out to be able to complete your measurement.
alex
Good, Rita! Good! Not that hard after all, huh? You’ll get used to it, trust me.
Quest completed
______________
The Lightning’s Inner Circle
alex
You’ve become aware of the Lightning’s Inner Circle. This means you’re taking another step deeper into even more advanced magical secrets…
Are you ready to hear more about The Lightning’s Inner Circle?
Objectives: Listen to Alex.
Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP
Reputation: 80 with The Keepers of Aideen: The Lightning’s Inner Circle
Deeper and deeper we go into discovering our magical talent!
alex
Your journey through the Lightning’s Inner Circle can go so far as to result in your ability to perform incredibly powerful magic spells. The journey is long, and the runic measurements are just the beginning of something much bigger to come. Be patient: a beginning is meant to be exactly that… The start of a road where we find ourselves standing now.
Elizabeth and I have great hopes that you’ll soon be able to learn useful enchantments and spells from within the Lightning’s Inner Circle.
Don’t forget that the journey is long, and this contact you have now with the runestones is only just scraping the surface of the secrets to come. It’s a rare candidate indeed who manages to get very far within these inner circles…
I believe in you, though. We believe in you. You’re unique, with exceptionally rare talents that we in the Keepers of Aideen have never seen before.
Continue to measure the Pandoric activity on the active runestones around our lands. They’re everywhere, but not all of them are active every day, so it’s a very well-trained eye indeed that is able to find the active stones at all times. I’ll also be out in the field to measure them on occasion, but I truly do need your help.
Good luck!
Quest completed
Return to Alex when you are Friendly with The Lightning’s Inner Circle.
You can now measure the runestones as a daily quest. All of the runestones are active everyday and can be measured once daily.
Approach the stone to start the quest, then use your rune wand. Collect the runes as you did with the first stone, then click the stone again to complete the quest.
Runestones are scattered all over Jorvik and can be found according to the map linked below.
When you reach a new reputation level, you can find Alex at the winery.
Friendly with The Lightning’s Inner Circle
alex
You’ve made it a little further along the road on your journey into The Lightning’s Inner Circle. This is just a first small step. Are you prepared to go further?
Objectives: Listen to Alex.
Quest completed
Return to Alex when you are Liked by The Lightning’s Inner Circle.
Liked by The Lightning’s Inner Circle
alex
Thanks so much for your impressive effort Rita. Now you’ve taken readings from enough runestones for now. Your excellent work has given us a result.
We have a solid picture of the stream between Pandoria and here and it’s enormous. Borderline catastrophic I would say…
The good news is that you’re on the verge of learning some incredible spells…
Objectives: Listen to Alex.
Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP
Reputation: 10 with The Keepers of Aideen: The Lightning’s Inner Circle
Glad I could help!
alex
Soon you’ll be invited to take part in a special training program with The Lightning’s Inner Circle and that’s where you’ll be learning all kinds of unimaginable things.
Until then, hang on and watch, wait and observe.
Quest completed
Your runestone readings are now completed.
If you measure every runestone you can in a single day, it will only take about two days to reach this point.
Now all you have to do is wait for future game updates.
Of Course Horses Can Do Push-Ups
ricky_winterwell
37… 38… 39… Whew! Hold on, one more… URGH!
Pfff!! Nah, it’s not happening. I can’t do any more. Whew.
That was tough. That was harder than I ever remember it being.
How’s the training going, you ask? Well, yeah… Umm… Okay?
Umm, how’s it been going for you? How many push-ups have you done today?
HA! Seems like I beat you by quite  few lengths there! You and Summerblaze are gonna have to do more push-ups than that to be able to beat me!
What? Horses can’t do push-ups? Pff, details, details. You can’t just explain things with words…
Come on now Rita and Summerblaze! Let’s see what you can do! First to 50 wins, okay?
Ready? 3, 2, 1…!
Objectives: Compete against Ricky to see who can do the most push-ups.
Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP
Reputation: 20 with New Hillcrest
Ready, set, go!
ricky_winterwell
Haha! I won!!
You were also pretty good Rita, you came in second in spite of everything. The real loser here, I’m sorry to say, is Summerblaze, who didn’t actually do any push-ups at all. What a lazybones!
Quest completed
______________
The Way of the Horse
ricky_winterwell
To tell you the truth, Rita, my training has been pretty so-so…
I’ve been out jogging and everything, but it’s not enough. It’s been so long since I was last in peak condition that I think I’ve forgotten how to follow the way of the horse.
What? What’s the way of the horse?
When you practice Jor-jitsu, there are loads of different techniques and styles you can use. The most traditional approach is the way of the horse, it’s one of the very oldest, hardest, and most refined martial arts you can learn.
But hey, I just thought! What horse in its right mind would only eat fruit and nuts?!
Objectives: Talk to Ricky.
Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP
Reputation: 10 with Ricky Winterwell
I’m not sure, you tell me, since you seem to be the diet expert…
ricky_winterwell
No horse in its right mind, Rita, you’re quite right. Not a single horse in its right mind. And what training diet have I been on? Exactly! Just fruit and nuts!
Quest completed
______________
Becoming More Like a Horse
ricky_winterwell
What I need to get back to top form is to find a way to be inspired to rediscover the way of the horse! What I mean by that is, I need to start eating hay. Only hay.
Why do you look so unsure Rita? Of course hay is the best thing I can eat!
Just look how strong and fast Summerblaze is! I mean, you’d have to ignore the fact that Summerblaze is lazy and can’t do push-ups, but yeah! Strong! Probably can’t do sit-ups either, though.
As luck would have it, I’ve actually got a load of hay at home. There’s a bale behind my house, could you grab it and then we’ll see who can eat the fastest!
Oh. You don’t want a speed hay eating contest? Fair enough. Then I’ll just challenge Summerblaze to the duel, and I’d probably have beaten you anyway Rita, no offence. When it comes to eating the most hay, I think it’s better if the match is between me and Summerblaze.
Objectives: Fetch the bale of hay from behind Ricky’s house and give it to your horse. Then the battle against Ricky can begin!
Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP
Reputation: 15 with Ricky Winterwell
You are a crazy person, has anyone ever told you that?
ricky_winterwell
Dryyyyy… Cough!
This is so dry!
Quest completed
______________
Water. Need Water.
ricky_winterwell
Water!
Cough… I need water!
Objectives: Get Ricky some water.
Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP
Reputation: 20 with Ricky Winterwell
Go across the street to the center block, and behind the houses, you’ll find several rain barrels. Collect some water from the barrel (why we couldn’t get water from a faucet somewhere is beyond me, but anyway) and return to Ricky.)
ricky_winterwell
Gulp, gulp, gulp…
Ahh! Now I can breathe again. This hay just stuck in my throat, it was really dry! How can horses eat this stuff?
Quest completed
______________
Balanced Diet?! Pfft!
ricky_winterwell
Nah, it wasn’t such a good idea to eat hay after all. I’ll have to think of something else to eat.
You think I should try eating a balanced diet? Pfft! Haha! Of course I’m not gonna fall for that. Next time it’ll have to be a gluten diet. Instead of avoiding gluten, I’ll just make sure absolutely everything I eat contains gluten. Maybe that’ll work.
You still want me to go for varied and balanced, huh Rita? Haha, we’ll see.
The problem remains though… I don’t know how I’m going to get back on to following the way of the horse. Without that technique, I’ll never have a chance in the competition.
What a great idea Rita! If I study Summerblaze then maybe I’ll be more likely to be inspired to rejoin the way of the horse!
I guess that means you and Summerblaze are thinking about helping me in time for the qualifiers?
Objectives: Talk to Ricky.
Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP
Reputation: 10 with Ricky Winterwell
As long as you stop calling my horse lazy…
ricky_winterwell
Thanks! If you want to help me then I’ve already got ideas about how we can get started!
Quest completed
______________
Running from a Horse
ricky_winterwell
There’s an old paddock a little bit out of town, we could use that… Or, actually, nah. Forget I said anything…
We could just be at the little paddock down by the stable instead. It’s nowhere near as good… Or, wait, actually it’s better! Way better!
Why can’t we use the other paddock? Umm… Well, it’s… Well, like… I’m not allowed to show my face there…
Can we not just talk about something else? We need to get training!
Probably just as well we get to the paddock by the stable as fast as we can.
If I’d like a lift on the back of Summerblaze? Haha, nice of you to ask, but I can probably run there faster myself.
Oh, really? Summerblaze isn’t a lazy lump you say? So you’re sticking with your story that horses can’t do push-ups, huh? What’s your line on sit-ups and squats then?
They can’t do those either?
Hmm… Well it just remains to be seen then. If you and Summerblaze can get there before me, then I suppose I’ll stop calling Summerblaze a lazybones.
You ready? Set? Go!!
Objectives: Race Ricky down to the paddock by the stable.
Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP, 25 Horse XP
Reputation: 30 with Ricky Winterwell
Prepare to eat your words, sir!
ricky_winterwell
Whew! Pfff! Hhhhnnng!
You won, great job Rita. And you, Summerblaze, are not as much of a lazybones as I thought, even if you don’t do push-ups…
Quest completed
______________
Learning to Walk
ricky_winterwell
You guys were so fast! I need to get out and run more, imagine being slower than a horse. Pff, can’t be having that!
Anyway, now let’s get to what I need your help with… I’m going to try and tell you the whole thing from the very beginning so that you’re up to speed.
Many many years ago – just when I started with Jor-jitsu – my old trainer, Master Lucia Goldspur, took me with her stable during my school break so that she could teach me an ancient technique. The technique was the way of the horse, and it’s one of the oldest methods in Jor-jitsu.
I remember being disappointed when Master Lucia said to me that we were going to spend the next three weeks mucking out the stable and taking care of the stable’s horses. I wondered what it had to do with Jor-jitsu.
But after three weeks…
After three weeks’ hard work, Master Lucia said I was ready for the next stage. Master Lucia took me to a paddock where she let a horse run free, then asked me to study the patterns of its movement. I still remember how graceful I thought the horse was as it moved, but no matter how hard I try, I can’t remember..
I remember her saying “If you’re to build a good foundation for the way of the horse, you must know how the horse moves around.” That’s why I need to remind myself of how a horse moves, like when Summerblaze is out running.
My question to you Rita is could you show me Summerblaze’s different paces and walking styles?
Great!
Okay, follow my instructions and walk in the style I ask you to.
Objectives: Fill the display to the top by riding in the paces Ricky asks you to.
Rewards: 60 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP, 40 Horse XP
Reputation: 40 with Ricky Winterwell
In the arena move your horse in the required gait to fill up the progress bar at the bottom of the screen. Go through walk, trot, canter, and gallop. If you are in the wrong gait, you will lose progress.
Speak to Ricky when he is satisfied with what he has seen.
ricky_winterwell
I think I’ve got it! Almost, anyway. We’ve got the walks but there’s something missing.
Quest completed
______________
Can Horses Jump?
ricky_winterwell
Rita!
There’s something missing. I’ve seen the walks, but there’s something else… What could it be? What can a horse do except walk? Definitely not push-ups… How’s it going with the sit-ups? The squats? Could you show me Summerblaze doing some squats?
Pfft. No squats either? Rita, what sort of loser horse is this you’ve got? Listen, if it’s not squats then what is it?
Jump? What on earth are you talking about?
You mean horses can jump?! Yeah! Well of course, it’s obvious now! You’re a genius!
That was something Master Lucia did, but it was quite a while ago. She said that you can never learn the way of the horse until you’re able to visualize a horse jumping.
I know exactly which racetrack you could use as well. I know that the Bulldogz are using different tracks right now to test our locations for new races around here, but don’t worry, there’s a track that goes around the stable and it has tons of jumps! If you ride the course, I can stay here and watch you both in action.
Okay, I’m ready Rita, let’s see Summerblaze’s best jump! Ride carefully though, these jumps can be a little tricky.
Objectives: Ride the jump course and show Ricky how a horse jumps.
Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 40 XP, 35 Horse XP
Reputation: 35 with Ricky Winterwell
Giddyup lazybones!
ricky_winterwell
Wow! Like, wow! I almost forgot how it felt to watch a horse jump so gracefully!
Quest completed
______________
Stand on One Leg? Cartwheeling?
ricky_winterwell
It’s all coming back, it’s all coming back to me now! I’m finally starting to remember the way of the horse, Rita!
There’s something missing, though. No matter how hard I try, I cannot remember techniques like “the brush,” “the hoof pick,” or “the feed” work. Is it that you have to do it standing on one leg? Or do you have to cartwheel while you do it?
You don’t think it’s cartwheeling? Pfft! HA! Since when did you become an expert on Jor-jitsu? No offence, but your horse can’t even do squats. I know all abut this stuff… Almost. If only I could remember those three techniques… Hmm…
So you mean horses don’t do push-ups, they don’t do sit-ups, AND they don’t do squats?! Right. Horses are weird, mysterious things. What do you think about the brush then? You don’t think it involves cartwheels? How do you do it then?
You want to show me how you take care of Summerblaze?
That’s an excellent idea! If I get to see how you look after Summerblaze then maybe I’ll remember how those techniques go!
Show me your best care techniques, I’ll ask for them in a certain order.
Thanks!
Objectives: Follow Ricky’s instructions and show him the care techniques he asks to see.
Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP
Reputation: 25 with Ricky Winterwell
The first thing he wants is to pick hooves. The pick is automatically in your inventory. Next he wants the brush. You will have to pick up the brush first, which can be found near the stable shop front. Next he wants the feed. Pick up hay from the bale behind him and use it to feed your horse.
Speak to him when you have demonstrated all the techniques.
ricky_winterwell
Feels like everything is falling into place!
Quest completed
______________
I Want to Feel the Wind!
ricky_winterwell
I’ve seen how a horse moves, I’ve seen how a horse jumps and I’ve seen how it’s taken care of. Why does it still feel like something is missing?
Feels like I can see the spaghetti and smell the spaghetti but I don’t know how the spaghetti tastes, you know?
If I’d like to come riding?
But I don’t have a horse and I think Nathalie is too busy right now for me to go and ask her if I can borrow one fro the stable.
If I’d like to ride behind you on Summerblaze?
Maybe you’re onto something here Rita. If I get to feel how it feels to ride, then the last bits of the puzzle should fall into place. The last bits I need to remember all the ways of the horse!
How do I get up onto Summerblaze then? Will you help me?
Okay. I think I’m ready now. Ride really fast so that it feels like I might be about to fall off. I want to feel the wind whoosh by my face!
Objectives: Take Ricky out on a ride.
I think I’m ready to get going. Do you want to train with me and help me go through all my various techniques? Help me sharpen up before qualifiers?
You do? Great, thanks!
Before we get started, I think you need to make a quick visit to Nathalie down by the stable. Since you were already helping me, I ordered a really awesome pair of sports shoes for you. You need good training gar if we’re gonna do this properly.
Ride down and talk to Nathalie, then I’ll see you outside the Bulldogz clubhouse.
Objectives Go to Nathalie to collect the sports shoes.
Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP
Reputation: 15 with Ricky Winterwell
Meet Nathalie down in front of the New Hillcrest stables.
One of My Best Friends
nathalie_moonriver
Hope Ricky hasn’t totally worn you out with all the training! He asked you to collect the sports shoes he ordered for you, right?
I’ll just grab them for you right now, they’re really nice! First though, do you want to say hello to one of my best friends?
This is Lady, she’s been my best and most loyal friend for almost twelve years. Even though she’s not just a little foal anymore, she’s a total ray of sunshine, full of energy!
Don’t be shy, go up and say hello to Lady!
Objectives: Say hello to Nathalie’s horse, Lady.
Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP
Best part of my day; meeting new horses!
A Calm, Sweet Horse
nathalie_moonriver
You and I should really take a ride together with Lady and Summerblaze some time. What do you think?
Heehee! Glad to hear you’d like that. I can’t today sadly, I have a little beginner coming to the stable to try riding for the first time.
I thought she might be able to take her first test ride on Lady because I don’t think there’s a more careful or more understanding horse than her. She’s always so cute and so gentle with kids, so she’s perfect to introduce to the little ones when they come to take a test ride.
As soon as I’ve grabbed your shoes for you, I’ll get started with preparing Lady.
Oh no! Look Rita… Ivan Drake is coming. Ugh. I really don’t like that man, could you please stick around here with me while we find out what he wants?
Objectives: Talk to Ivan Drake.
Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP
Hey there, jerkface…
Hello there Nathalie! You getting ready to move out of my stables? Haha!
Laughing at the Sad
ivan_drake
I heard Ricky wants to take part in the qualifiers for the district championships! HAHA! Like that loser would ever have a chance. Nathalie, it’s probably best that you start thinking about moving out of the stables so me and my club Total Destruction can take over.
I promise I’ll use this place a lot more than that old paddock I won from Ricky last time. Like who in their right mind would want to spend time there? Hahaha!
When I won that old paddock from Ricky and told him he was never allowed to show his face there again, it was only because it was so fun to see him so sad! Hahaha, it’s amazing when people are all sad like that. Laughing at them in that state is the best thing ever hahaha….!
So this is the famous Lady, huh Nathalie? Lady, lovely Lady who’s so nice and nice? Ha. Loser. Can I pet the little bundle of lameness?
Objectives: Calm Lady down before she attacks Ivan.
Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP
Reputation: 15 with Ricky Winterwell
Whoa horseie, I know he’s awful but let’s be the better people here…
Fried Porridge = Luxury
What? Pff, nah, I’m never scared of anything. Like I’d cry and shout for my mother just because of a dumb horse. Pfft.
Nathalie, make sure you get a muzzle on that maniac, otherwise I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue you so hard that you’ll think fried porridge is a luxury.
Just you wait. I’ll be back. Grr.
Objectives: Talk to Nathalie.
They say that horses are the best judges of character. This Ivan Drake guy is serious scum.
UGH! Rita! That idiot makes me so angry! So angry that I’m just shaking all over!
The Paddock Outside New Hillcrest
nathalie_moonriver
I know I shouldn’t let Ivan Drake have this effect on me, I should’t care at all about what he says but it’s hard to ignore it. Thanks for being here Rita.
You wonder what he was talking about? Yeahh, umm… I’m sure you’re curious.
Has Ricky said anything to you about the paddock that’s just outside New Hillcrest?
Hmm? He suggested you train there and then quickly changed his mind?
Yeah. You see, the paddock used to belong to him…
Ugh! I’d love to tell you more about it but I need to get Lady ready before the students arrive. I hardly know how I’ll be able to groom her or get her ready considering how much I’m still shaking.
You’ll help? Oh, gosh, that’s so lovely! Thank you!
Here, take my grooming brush and groom Lady. I’ll tell you more about Ricky and the paddock while you’re at it.
Objectives: Groom Lady then talk to Nathalie.
Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP
Reputation: 10 with Ricky Winterwell
Groom the horse with the brush from your inventory, then speak to Nathalie again.
nathalie_moonriver
Thanks ever so much Rita.
Quest completed
______________
Epona Kai
nathalie_moonriver
Has Ricky told you anything about his old trainer, Master Lucia? He has?
You see, Master Lucia was the owner of a very old Jor-jitsu club called “Epona Kai.” Back then, the focus of the club was on monitoring and measuring the old techniques of the martial arts right there in the paddock. Master Lucia was one of the greatest Jor-jitsu artists of all time, which is why that paddock is so well known amongst those who practice and follow Jor-jitsu.
Ricky had the luck to have Master Lucia take him under her wing at an early age, and she trained him in the way of the horse, as it’s called. When she started to get into her later years, she asked Ricky if he would look after her club and paddock for her.
Ricky was supposed to take care of the club and the paddock until a new master came along, but nobody knew who that master was supposed to be. Master Lucia had her faith in Ricky, but for Ricky to be master, he’d first have to win the Jorvik championship.
Ricky promised her he would, then just a few weeks later, Master Lucia peacefully passed away.
You don’t need to be sad Rita, Master Lucia was a very, very old lady when she died. She slept peacefully and happily and welcomed the next part of life – not knowing what was coming next – with open arms.
Oh gosh! Time’s flying by! Lady’s hooves need scraping before the kids arrive!
Oh how nice of you to help me with this as well Rita. If you clean out Lady’s hooves, I can then carry on with the story.
Objectives: Scrape Lady’s hooves then talk to Nathalie.
Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP
Reputation: 10 with Ricky Winterwell
Use the hoof pick from your inventory on Lady, then speak to Nathalie again for her to continue her tale.
nathalie_moonriver
Thanks, now Lady just needs to be saddled then everything’s ready for my little student to arrive.
Quest completed
______________
Disbanding Epona Kai
nathalie_moonriver
Where was I?
Ah yes, Ricky had promised to take care of Master Lucia’s old club and the paddock belonging to it until a new leader for the club stepped up.
Ricky, as you’ve probably noticed, can have a huge amount of self-confidence and so he took part in the Jorvik Championships even though Master Lucia told him to wait a couple of years until he was ready.
The rest is history. Ricky lost in the final of the championship and the person he lost against was none other than Ivan Drake.
As well as his self-confidence, Ricky also lost the club and the paddock to Ivan. In the heat of the moment, he bet Ivan the paddock that he could beat him. If Ricky lost, Ivan would then own the paddock.
Since the club lost its paddock, it also lost its headquarters, and because Ricky also became very withdrawn, the remaining members looked for other clubs to join meaning the club was more or less disbanded.
Sorry to stop again, I’m almost totally calm, but I’ll need Lady to be saddled so she’s ready for the lesson.
Haha! Thanks for helping me with this as well! I promise I’ll finish the story this time since you’re helping me!
Objectives: Saddle Lady, then talk to Nathalie.
Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP
Reputation: 15 with Ricky Winterwell
Tack up Lady, the bridle and saddle (with no rug apparently) and then speak to Nathalie to finally finish her tale.
nathalie_moonriver
Thanks Rita. I’ll keep going now, there’s not much of the story left.
Quest completed
______________
Epona Kai is Not Lost!
nathalie_moonriver
As you know, the years went by and now I don’t know what any of the other club members are doing. I know the only two who knew the way of the horse were Master Lucia and Ricky who she’d taught because she wanted him to take over.
Ricky seems to have lost a lot of his knowledge but I really think you can help him find his way back. He’s got it in there somewhere, he just needs a little help to get back on track. You’ve no idea how grateful I am that you’re helping him, and I think he’s really grateful too but just does’t ever think to say so.
Even if the paddock is lost, it doesn’t mean Epona Kai has to be too! Ricky can still save the club, the paddock, my stable and even me if he wins that competition, so thanks for training with him Rita.
Oh, here are the shoes! Take them back to Ricky and carry on where you left off! The qualifiers start soon, so there’s no time to lose!
Objectives: Go back to Ricky with your new sports shoes. He’s standing by the paddocks outside the Bulldogz clubhouse.
Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP, Jor-jitsu shoes
Reputation: 10 with Ricky Winterwell
Meet Ricky in the paddocks to the west of New Hillcrest, they are right outside of town.
Hey, you took your time…?
Meditation: Exercise for the Mind!
ricky_winterwell
What are you and Nathalie up to?
Ah you helped her with Lady before her lessons? That’s nice of you! Oh, she told you about the paddock at New Hillcrest? Well I suppose it was just as well that you found out.
Anyway, enough about the old days, we’ve got training to do! The qualifiers start soon and I need to get into tip-top shape for them. I think I’ve remembered all the ways of the horse thanks to our studies together with Summerblaze!
So change into your sports shoes and we’ll sit down and get started with a little meditation to clear the mind before we train.
Objectives: Start meditation and mental exercises with Ricky.
Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP
Reputation: 20 with Ricky Winterwell
Ohmmmmm……
ricky_winterwell
There we go! I feel focused and ready to go! Don’t you?
Quest completed
______________
The Way of the Horse: The Brush
ricky_winterwell
Okay, so Nathalie’s already told you a whole lot of stuff about Master Lucia and Epona Kai, so you’ll know that the focus at Epona Kai is on the way of the horse. If we just watch a horse in action, we’ll see that it will run from danger, preferably in a herd. That’s why we’ve got the best defense tactics in Jor-jitsu, nothing can break through them.
I thought we could start with one of those techniques, and it’s “the brush.” I’ll try my best to show you what to do so we can train together. “The brush,” simply means that you brush away the enemy or their attack. It’s really easy.
Just imagine that you were brushing Summerblaze, but instead of having a brush and a horse, you’ve got somebody trying to attack you.
Come on Rita, let’s get brushing!
Objectives: Practice “the brush” as part of learning the way of the horse with Ricky.
Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP
Reputation: 25 with Ricky Winterwell
Brushy, brushy, brush.
ricky_winterwell
That was a great start! We may as well move straight on to the next technique.
Quest completed
______________
The Way of the Horse: The Feed
ricky_winterwell
What? You think we should go a little more slowly?
Nah, why? That was really good, I remembered the brush. Don’t need to practice more than that, it’ll be fine as it is.
We can move on right away with a defense tactic called “the feed.”
Smart, Rita! You’ve got it already, just like you said, the feed works like you’re feeding a horse, just without any horse or any food.
Just try and copy me and remember to keep your arms up even if it feels like you’re getting cramps!
Objectives: Practice “the feed” with Ricky.
Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP
Reputation: 20 with Ricky Winterwell
Feed the invisible horse invisible food.
ricky_winterwell
Haha! Looks like you started to cramp up a little there Rita. You’re a natural though, everything’s going so quickly!
Quest completed
______________
The Way of the Horse: The Hoof Pick
ricky_winterwell
You don’t need to be worried Rita. Why would we need to go over this more than once? If you get it kind of 80% done the first time, then that’s enough I think. It’s only the qualifiers after all, and it’ll all go perfectly now that I’ve remembered all the techniques of the way of the horse; nobody’s gonna be able to touch me! Haha!
The next technique we’ll look at is the hoof pick. This isn’t a defensive tactic like the others, it’s an offensive move that makes your competitor completely confused. Sometimes they even just sit down because they’ve got no idea what’s going on, so get ready to be confused.
Haha, you already know how to do this: exactly what you’d usually do with a hoof pick just without a hoof pick or a horse.
Follow me and we’ll get going!
Objectives: Practice the “hoof pick” move as part of the way of the horse with Ricky.
Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP
Reputation: 25 with Ricky Winterwell
Wheeeee….
ricky_winterwell
This is going really well! I’m remembering everything!
Quest completed
______________
The Way of the Horse: The Mucking
ricky_winterwell
Remember when I told you that Master Lucia made me spend weeks in a stable during my school break just so that I could muck out and tidy up?
She did that so that I would be able to learn one of the key techniques, one of the hardest, called “the mucking.” It took years for me to learn, so don’t be too sad if you don’t get it right away.
The mucking technique can be done in many different ways, just like ordinary mucking can be done in different ways, am I right?
You’re wondering how many different ways you can shovel manure? Haha, the possibilities are limitless Rita! You can throw it up in the air and try to catch it with a wheelbarrow, or you can pile it all up into a big mountain of dung, or you can… Uhhh, why are you looking at me like that?
Let’s start with the mucking instead. Come on Rita.
Objectives: Train the mucking techniques as part of the way of the horse with Ricky.
Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP
Reputation: 20 with Ricky Winterwell
-sings- “Just shovelin’ shit over my shoulder!”
ricky_winterwell
A good start, but you clearly need more practice at this. Like I said, it took me a pretty long time before I nailed it.
______________
Chips Diet = Best Diet
ricky_winterwell
Wow, I don’t think we need to train any more for now. I’m pretty tired actually. What do you think about having a few moments of meditation and then we can call it a day?
You think we need to train more? Pfft, take it easy. Didn’t you see how well it was going for me just now?
Nah, we’ll meditate a little now and then I’m gonna go home and prepare for my diet.
Didn’t I tell you? I’m on the chips diet now. Chips are from potatoes, and potatoes are vegetables and salad is made of vegetables, so my chips diet is basically the healthiest thing ever. Plus, there’s always salt in there too and you need salt in your body if you’ve been sweating during all these workouts. It’s up there with the best, most healthy diets.
However much you keep nagging about eating a varied, balanced diet of little bits of everything in moderation, I still know that my diets are better than your crazy fad.
Enough of that now though, let’s cool down with some stretches and meditation.
Objectives: Cool down from the training session by meditating with Ricky.
Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP
Reputation: 25 with Ricky Winterwell
Wow, no wonder you lost. Your winner attitude is super lame.
ricky_winterwell
Nice training session Rita! Thanks!
Quest completed
______________
Me and My Chips
ricky_winterwell
Now I’m gonna get home and relax with my chips. I’ll probably see you later, now it’s time to get ready for the qualifiers!
Here’s a training vest for you that you can use whenever you want to train a little extra. Oh, and the shoes… They’re working out okay, right?
Objectives: Talk to Ricky.
Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP, Jor-jitsu shirt
Reputation: 10 with Ricky Winterwell
Well I guess this is where I leave you to your ‘best diet.’
ricky_winterwell
Have a great day! See you soon!
