The following quests are only available when the market is at Silverglade.

Hay’s Not the Only Thing for Horses

ferdinand

Oh, dearest Rita, it’s truly lovely that you’ve come up to see us. You’re a little ray of sunshine sent to brighten up our day, you mark my words! If you’ve got a little spare time, do you think you might help us out with a tiny errand? Ah, wonderful Rita! That’s really lovely of you.

You see, our horses are looking a little bit sad. They’ve been eating hay, hay and only hay for a while now, so clearly they could use a little variation. Couldn’t you ride on over to our old friend Barney who lives away over by the silos and ask him if he has any spare carrots? Our horses really love carrots and they’re always happiest when they’re munching on Barney’s vegetables! Hmm… I wonder what happened last time they’d eaten Barney’s vegetables? I’ve got it in the back of my mind that something weird happened. Meh, my memory isn’t what it used to be, dear Rita. Trot over to Barney and tell him I said hello!

Objectives: Ask Barney for some carrots to give to the horses at the market.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 100 with Ferdinand’s Horse Market

Yummy, yummy, veggies in my tummy.

barney

Why hello there Rita! What luck you happened to stop by!

______________

The Vuvuzela is the Rodent’s Best Frenemy

barney

Oh, no, no, no, it’s horrific! There are little rodents all over my field! I need to get rid of them, but my approach doesn’t seem to be working.. The little beasties are too clever for old Barney. Can’t you give it a go, Rita? It’s not that tricky, but I guess you’d have to be quicker and more cunning than I am if you’re going to have a chance of getting close enough.

Here, have a look at this: my vuvuzela! A ghastly instrument, but super effective when it comes to scaring the living daylights out of vermin. If you can get close enough to the little good-for-nothings before you blast on my vuvuzela, you’ll see that they run for their lives!

Objectives: Sneak up on the rodents and scare them away by blowing on the vuvuzela.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 100 with Ferdinand’s Horse Market

Approach the rodents from behind, for if they see you, they will jump back down in their holes. When you sneak up on them, use the horn on them to scare them away. When you have rid the field of the rodents, return to Barney.

barney

Haha! What a sight it was to see you sneaking up and blowing the vuvuzela on those little monsters! Thanks a lot Rita!

Carrots to the Horses!

barney

So, was there something in particular you wanted? Carrots for Ferdinand and Eddie?

Why of course! Here’s a huge batch of my best carrots. Tell them I said hello; it’s been far too long since we saw each other!

Objectives: Take the carrots to Ferdinand.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 100 with Ferdinand’s Horse Market

Hopefully the horses will be happy with this.

ferdinand

Ooh, I see you’ve got some carrots with you! The horses are going to be in a much better mood now, that’s for sure.

Quest completed

______________

Horses on the Loose!

ferdinand

Darn it Rita, I can’t believe it’s happened again! All the horses are loose!

Oh goodness gracious, once they’d eaten the carrots they really seemed to lighten up, perhaps a little too much… After only eating hay for such a long time, they got really hyper after tasting such delicious carrots and just bolted away. How could I make the same mistake again!? This happens every time we come to Silverglade. I’m sure they were only play-acting when they looked so down in the dumps; they knew they’d get some tasty carrots from me to cheer them up so perhaps they were just planning to run away all along.

Look, they’re dashing around here… You can see them, but they don’t seem to be a hurry to come back.

Could you round them up for us, Rita? It’s just a case of finding them; they’ll come right back afterwards. Sometimes their mischief drives me crazy, but if these spicy little moments never happened then everything would get rather boring, don’t you think?

Good luck Rita, and be sure to have a good look; those horses really can gallop when they feel like it!

Objectives: Find all the horses that are running around Silverglade Village.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 100 with Ferdinand’s Horse Market

Chase after the horses, and when you get close to them, they will stop. When you have caught all of the horses, return to Ferdinand.

ferdinand

Hey! You did it Rita! All the horses are back in their rightful places. Next time we’re here I’ll see to it that this kind of nonsense doesn’t happen again, I can promise you.

Quest completed

______________

Rent for the Silverglade Horse Market

eddie

Hello Rita! Do you think you could help me with a little errand? I haven’t got time to leave the market just now, but the rent needs to be paid. You’re one of my most trustworthy friends, so I could certainly rely on you to get this envelope of Jorvik Shillings to the Council Man in Silverglade Village. It’ll be light work for a rider of your ability.

You’ll do it? Oh, thank you Rita!

Objectives: Give the envelope containing Jorvik Shillings to the Council Man in Silverglade.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 100 with Ferdinand’s Horse Market

Ride to the Council Man in Silverglade Village, to give him the rent for the Horse Market.

council_man

Hello there Rita. Good to see you’ve got the rent from Ferdinand and Eddie, thanks a lot. Say hello to them from me!

Quest completed

______________

A Big Thank You from Ferdinand and Eddie

ferdinand

Dearest Rita, you’ve really been a huge help for us here in Silverglade Village. If you hadn’t helped us to find all the horses, we’d have been forced to search for them all night long.

Eddie and I had a little chat earlier on, and we both decided that we wanted to give you a gift, you know, to say thanks for all you’ve done for us. Eddie has been fixing it up and I think she’s finished now. You go talk to her and you’ll get a really lovely present from us, and nope, I’m saying nothing about what it is. That would only spoil the surprise! So long, dear Rita, see you soon.

Objectives: Talk with Eddie at the Horse Market.

Rewards: 150 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP, Banana T-Shirt

Reputation: 500 with Ferdinand’s Horse Market

Speak to Eddie about the gift.

eddie

Hi Rita! Now you get to see what I’ve found for you in our caravan. It’s so lovely, I got it as a birthday present way back when I was a young girl, and I think it’ll look perfect on you. Here you go! See you soon Rita.

The following quests are only available when the market is at Cape West Fishing Village.

Seasick Horses Need Medicine!

ferdinand

Ah! My dear Rita! How wonderful that you’ve come to see us! You’re like a lovely little spring flower; it always cheers us up so much when you stop by. If you’re looking for something to do, maybe you could help me with a little errand? Ooh, wonderful Rita, that’s really nice of you!

It’s such a shame… Our lovely horses are feeling a little seasick after our journey here on the barge. They usually deal quite well with being at sea, but this time it seems to have been a bit too much for them. Thinking about it, our old friend Carin at Goldenleaf Stables could probably help us out. I seem to remember something happening last time they were seasick, but hey, my memory isn’t what it used to be, dear Rita. Hurry along to Carin and be sure to say hello to her from me!

Objectives: Ask Carin to help the horses get rid of their seasickness.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 100 with Ferdinand’s Horse Market

Carin should know of a helpful remedy for the horses.

carin

Hello there Rita. What can I do for you?

Quest completed

______________

An Herbal Remedy Against Seasickness

carin

Sooo… Ferdinand and Eddie’s horses are seasick again. Tsk, don’t they remember what happened last time? Ah well, of course I’ll help again, but Ferdinand really should know better by now!

The best thing for their seasickness is to give them fresh beach flowers to munch on, it usually makes the worst of the seasickness subside. These beach flowers grow all around the island, so take a look around and pick as many as you need then come back to me.

Rita, you must only pick green beach flowers. It’s important not to pick the red ones because they’re a protected species as you maybe know. Only green. No red. Understood? Great!

Off you go now!

Objectives: Gather green beach flowers and return to Carin. Don’t pick red ones, they’re a protected species!

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 100 with Ferdinand’s Horse Market

Ride out on the beach surrounding the stable, and pick only the green flowers. If you pick a red flower, you will fail the quest and have to start over.

When you have picked enough green flowers, return to Carin.

carin

Oh! I see you’ve got those lovely green beach flowers!

Quest competed

______________

Back to Seasick Horses

carin

Here you go, Rita! Your green beach flowers. Give them to Ferdinand and tell him that he needs to mix them in with their food and he should notice they’ll feel better almost straight away.

Say hi to Ferdinand and Eddie from me. See you soon!

Objectives: Ride back to Ferdinand.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 100 with Ferdinand’s Horse Market

Return to Ferdinand with the remedy for the sick horses.

ferdinand

Oh, the green flowers!

Horses on the Loose in Cape West!

ferdinand

Oh, jumping jellyfish! Rita, I can’t believe it’s happened again! All the horses are loose!

Good grief, once they’d eaten up all their beach flowers, they really seemed to get much better. Seems as though they’re feeling a little bit too perky. The second I had my back turned, they just made a break for it This happens every time we come to Golden Hills Valley. I’m sure they were only play-acting when they looked so seasick; they knew they’d get some tasty beach flowers from me to fix them up so perhaps they were just planning to run away all along.

Look, they’re dashing around here… You see them, but they don’t seem to be in a hurry to come back.

Could you round them up for us, Rita? It’s just a case of finding them; they’ll come right back afterwards. Sometimes their frolicking drives me crazy, but if these zesty little moments never happened then everything would get rather boring, don’t you think?

Good luck Rita, and be sure to have a good look; those horses really can fly when they feel like it!

Objectives: Find all the loose horses in Cape West Fishing Village.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 100 with Ferdinand’s Horse Market

Chase down all of the horses, and when you get close to them, they will stop. When you have caught all of the horses, return to Ferdinand.

ferdinand

Hoho, you did a great job Rita! All of the horses are finally back where they belong. Next time we’re here, we won’t fall for the same nonsense again!

Day 84, A Forest Meeting – Spoiler Alert

An unusual white horse has been wandering around in Greendale Forest. Maybe he needs some help?

A Forest Meeting

starshine

Hail, Soul Rider. I am Starshine. Prrfffff…

Objectives: Listen to Starshine.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

This horse might have a tale to tell.

starshine

I recognize a true Soul Rider when I see one, and you are one most definitely. I can sense it a long way off. So your name is Rita? A pleasure to meet you.

Neighhh…

You know Alex and Linda as well?  That’s absolutely brilliant! But I take it you haven’t met Lisa? I thought not. Prrfffff… Yes, it’s true that Lisa is gone. As I said, I am Starshine, and Lisa is my Soul Rider. But she’s lost, and I fear the worst… Sniff.

I shall relay to you the tale of what happened… Prrfffff…

Quest completed

______________

Starshine Recounts the Tale

starshine

After a long time away from Jorvik, when Lisa traveled around the world playing her… Um… Electrical lute, or whatever it’s called, and for payment howled loudly in front of hysterical audiences and other nonsense, the day I’d been longing for finally arrived. The day my beloved Lisa returned to Jorvik Stables. Straight over the moors we ran. The wind was roaring and whirling through my mane, messing up Lisa’s fiery red hair. Matching the howl of the winds of spring, we bellowed in pure joy, and the delight of seeing one another knew no boundaries. Lisa whispered a promise that we’d never part again.

She said she would remain on Jorvik, and I thought I’d never let her leave me again. But I didn’t say so at the time.

We galloped and galloped over the plains. We rode long and aimlessly, just enjoying the wild run. Freedom. Neeeiigh!

The afternoon came, and that’s when my memory starts to fail me.

Something horrible happened during the ride, but I cannot remember what it was or how it happened. My only recollection is a sharp, sudden ray of light and a strange sound. Then everything went black. I think I must have passed out.

When I came around, I was woozy and unable to orientate. Night had fallen. It had started to rain, and thunder was rumbling in the distance. Perhaps the rain woke me. Or maybe the cold. But the worst part was that I couldn’t sense Lisa’s presence any more.

Dazed, freezing, and lost, I wandered aimlessly. Just before dawn I found my way to Jorvik Stables and hoped to find Lisa there. But no. And she’s been gone ever since. Prrfffff…

Objectives: Listen to Starshine’s tale.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

There is more to Starshine’s story of woe.

starshine

My despair is endless. I have spent many long weeks in search for my beloved Lisa. I’ve looked all over. Right now I’m searching beneath every leaf in the Greendale Forest, but soon I won’t have anywhere else to look. Sniff. My heart is heavy with grief.

Quest completed

______________

New Hope

starshine

Oh? You’re saying you’ve received reliable indications that Lisa’s been rendered defenseless and hidden in the Grey Mountains? Interesting… Very interesting. I have a partial memory of having taken a trip to the northern part of the mountain. It might be so. I have looked there without finding anything, but maybe I haven’t looked close enough.

Will you help me look for Lisa and follow up on your new clues?

Objectives: Will you help Starshine?

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Starshine needs your help.

starshine

Neigh! Neigh! I’m forever grateful for your assistance. As you know, I’ve been looking all over, and I’m starting to become rather desperate. If Lisa was here somewhere I would be able to sense her presence, and I cannot. That can mean one out of two things. Either she’s not here, or she’s…

Or she’s gone. Sniff. But your new information gives me renewed hope that we can find her. At least I hope we can find a clue. One, tiny indication on what has befallen her.

Quest completed

______________

Search Party in Norther Grey Mountains

starshine

We’ll search through the northern range of the Grey Mountains. On your map, I’ve marked some interesting places to look. I know certain locations will be a bit tricky to find, Lisa and I rode all over the place.

Let’s meet in the area after we’ve performed the search.

I’ll be looking in some of the more hard-to-find locations. You’ll be able to see me on your map, so it won’t be a problem finding me in the area later, when we’re due to report our findings.

Prrffff. Neigh!

Good luck Rita, my friend. Now let’s find Lisa!

Objectives: Search the places marked down on the map. Afterwards, report to Starshine, who also is looking nearby.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

The location you need to search to complete the quest is off of Dew Mountain Road. Coming from the south, turn off the road to the left at the bottom of the first big hill (if you get to the bridge, you’ve gone too far), and go up the small hill to cliffside and branches piled on the side of cliff. When you search the branches, you will uncover a strange silhouette that has been burned into the rock.

quest-burned_silhouette

Something isn’t quite right about this spot… No natural fire could have caused this. And there seems to be a muddle of old tracks on the ground…”

Quest completed

______________

A Singed Clue

self

“A strange silhouette. The tracks here are too old and obscured to render any useful information. Better find Starshine and show him this curious scene.”

Objectives: Locate Starshine and tell him what you’ve discovered. You’ll find Starshine nearby.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Starshine can be found wandering around across the road. He is also noted as a green dot on your minimap.

starshine

A blackened mountain wall? A spot that’s been burned by unnatural fire? Old tracks? Very interesting! Prrfffff-neigh!

Quest completed

______________

A Closer Inspection

starshine

Show me where it is! Let’s go to this strange spot you’ve found.

Objectives: Ride the nearest way to the strange spot with the charred mountain wall.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Follow Starshine back to the silhouette.

starshine

By the life-giving light of Aideen! You’ve found an important clue! This must be the spot where we were subjected to that dazzling light which took us by surprise. There’s something familiar about that silhouette, don’t you think? Hmm…

Quest completed

______________

Comb Through the Area

starshine

Look! All these foot and hoof prints indicate that we actually got ambushed! The cowardly perpetrators must have nested behind those bushes by the cliff over there, waiting to assault us in this horrendous way…

So you’re saying it was the Dark Riders who conducted this cowardly assault and took Lisa? After seeing this, I’m afraid your information is correct. They’ll pay dearly for this. If they’ve harmed as much as a single red hair on her head, I’ll personally see to it that those infernal Dark Riders are sent to the darkest darkness of Eternity!

We’ll comb the area for more clues. We’ll turn every grassy knoll upside down until we’ve found something that gives us the answers we seek.

Objectives: Look through the area for more clues!

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

When facing the burned wall, turn to the left, and go up the hill to the top of the small cliff. The area you need to search is farther back, in a small ditch surrounded by pine trees.

Reputation: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Return to Starshine and tell him what you found. He is wandering around down by the burned silhouette.

starshine

A hidden Pandoric crack? That sounds alarming. While you were gone, I found tracks of burning hooves in the grass. Dark Riders are behind this, no doubt.

Whatever can that crack mean…?

Quest completed

______________

An Unsettling Sensation

starshine

Take me to this hidden crack! I have an uneasy feeling in my belly. Nee-eigh! Look! You can easily distinguish drag marks on the ground over there which seem to lead in the direction you say we’re going.

Objectives: Take Starshine to the hidden crack.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Ride with Starshine up to the hidden crack.

starshine

Oh, Rita. Sniff. By the lights of Aideen. I think the evil Dark Riders have hidden our beloved Lisa inside the crack. They must have cast some sort of forbidden, black magic and succeeded in sending Lisa to Pandoria! She could be lost forever, captured in a jumble of entangled time and twisted space! Nee-e-eigh!

Helloo? Lisa? Are you down there?

Can you hear me, Lisa?

It’s me! Your Starshine!

Helloo? Are you there?

Know what, Rita? I actually believe I sense some kind of presence of someone that could be Lisa…

Do you know who it is?

Quest completed

Urgent Errand

starshine

We have no idea who the Sleeping Widow is. But you think Linda might know? Ingenious! Ask her!

I’m going to stay behind and see to that the crack doesn’t close, while I’m trying to keep contact with Lisa. When and if the Sleeping Widow awakens, and if she actually can release Lisa from the Pandoric prison, I need to be here to help her out.

Full speed ahead to the Vineyard! For Lisa! See you later!

Objectives: Locate Linda by the Vineyard and see if she knows who the Sleeping Widow is.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Ride to the Vineyard. Linda can be found in her usual spot near the stables.

linda

Hi, Rita! I’me going out for a ride, want to come with? No? You look like you’re in a hurry. What’s going on?

Quest completed

______________

Who is the Sleeping Widow?

linda

You and Starshine found Lisa?! That’s incredible! But the bad news is that she needs rescuing from Pandoria, and Lisa says it can only be done by waking a sleeping widow? Ah! “The Sleeping Widow,” she’s talking about a specific individual that goes by that name, I see.

No, I don’t know who it might be. I’ll go the Manor’s library and hit the books.

Ask the Baroness if she knows something while you wait. You can find me in the library later. I’ll just park Meteor first.

Objectives: Ask the Baroness about the Sleeping Widow while Linda looks through the books in the library.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Ride over to the front of the Manor and speak with the Baroness there.

baroness

Good day, Rita! Another lovely day among the grape vines on the plantation, am I right?

Quest completed

______________

Does the Baroness Know of the Sleeping Widow?

baroness

If I know anything about a sleeping widow? No, Rita. I do know of quite many widows, one does so at my respectable age, but none of them strikes me as someone who’s sleeping exceptionally much, and thus have gotten such a nickname. Unfortunately I cannot help you with this matter.

You’ll have to trust that Linda finds something in the library books. She might have found something of interest already.

Objectives: Speak to Linda in the library.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Dismount your horse to enter the library, and speak with Linda there.

linda

The Baroness didn’t know? Okay, bad luck. We need to trust the knowledge of these books, then. Let’s see… I need to read that book. And that one. And that one as well…

If the Spy Master can help us? I don’t think so. He does know a lot, but he doesn’t know everything. I think he over-exaggerates his own image somewhat, and cultivates a picture of himself that is way too legendary.

And that book… And that…

Quest completed

______________

Does the Spy Master Know?

linda

Why don’t you pay the Spy Master a visit while I look through these books for information? You could ask him if he knows anything about the Sleeping Widow. It’s beyond his field of expertise, so he’s unlikely to know, but if you like and you’ve got nothing else to do, you could always head over there and ask him. It may not yield anything, but no harm could come from it. Take the horse transport. It’s quick and easy.

Objectives: Visit the Spy Master in his grotto in the northern mountains and ask him who the Sleeping Widow is.

Rewards: 12 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

Ride or transport to the Spy Master’s Hideout and speak with him there.

spy_master

I’ve been expecting you. I know why you’re here, but why don’t we make normal conversation out of it anyway and you tell me why you’ve come.

Quest completed

______________

The Spy Master’s Answer

spy_master

The Sleeping Widow. It’s a living being who’s lost its husband. It’s a woman, possibly widowed… And, let me see… Um… She’s also sleeping.

She’s also rather unknown. Or maybe “sleeping” pertains to some blindness to the outside world, what do I know?

That’s all I can tell, unfortunately? Is it enough?

Objectives: Listen to the Spy Master’s response.

Rewards: 16 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

The Spy Master knows all… Or does he??

spy_master

No? Hm… I’m sorry Rita, that’s all I can say. However, I’m convince your friend Linda will find the answer in one of the books, if she hasn’t already. Sooner rather than later.

And you know what? The right book is always the last one you look through.

Quest completed

______________

Back to Linda With No Answer

spy_master

See you later, Rita!

Objectives: Tell Linda she was right, the Spy Master did not know.

Ride or transport back to the Vineyard. Dismount your horse to enter the library, and find Linda inside.

linda

I suspected he wouldn’t know anything about the Sleeping Widow. But now you know he doesn’t know everything. He knows a lot though. He has a network of skilled spies which is made up mostly of squirrels. He is very valuable when it comes to certain kinds of information.

I’ll keep looking through these books and let you know when I find anything.

About Ferdinand’s Horse Market

$

0

Ferdinand’s Horse Market is a travelling market that has story quests available every time it is in a new location. It visits four different cities in Jorvik; Jorvik Stables, Fort Pinta, Silverglade, Cape West Fishing Village, respectively.

When you visit the market for the first time, regardless of location, there are several introductory quests in which you meet Ferdinand, Eddie, and Goofy Lars. Then, each location has quests that are specific to that location, and are only available when the Horse Market is camped there.

There are several horses that continually travel with the market (Danish Warmblood, Westphalian, and four Jorvik Ponies). They are always ready for purchase when the market is camped, but during the time it is travelling, they are temporarily unavailable. Newly added horses that are introduced at the market will be moved to a new location when the market packs up to travel again.

Generally, the market stays in each location for two real time weeks. Then it takes one week of travel to the next location, and one week of set up before it is ready to open again.

The Horse Market quests are actually reputation quests. Each location’s quests repeat until you have reached Admired with the Horse Market faction. After that, the story quests no longer appear, though you can still visit the market and purchase horses or clothes.

The New Horse Guide page will be continually updated with the Market’s current location.

If you have any other questions regarding the Horse Market, feel free to comment!

Edit:

I’ve gotten internet set up in my apartment now, but I will still be semi-hiatus for the rest of the week at least while I finish unpacking. Comments will be turned back on and I will be checking the blog but I won’t be working on new posts until I get settled in more.

Hey all!

So my apartment search is finally over. About two weeks ago I put in an application and I signed the lease earlier this week. I’ll be picking up the keys tomorrow and moving in over the weekend.

Unfortunately, I won’t have internet right away when I move in, so I will be not be able to check the blog during that time. I will be turning off comments and will not be posting until I have internet installed. Hopefully it won’t be too long, but I anticipate it will take at least a week or so, maybe more. I will update the blog when I return.

Hope you all have a great weekend, and happy riding!

Return to Linda in library at the Winery and see if she has found any useful information.

The Sleeping Widow

linda

Yawn… I’ve been looking all night and I think I’ve found an old note from the mid-18th century.

Listen to this:

Objectives: Listen to what Linda has to say about the Sleeping Widow.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

And so Linda recounts her findings.

linda

The legend of the Sleeping Widow goes back far in time. When the light of Aideen spread over Jorvik and life was brought to the island, a handful of Life Wardens were created, whose task it was to guard the growing life, to shield it, and to give warning if the flora and fauna of the island were ever threatened.

quest-primeval_tree

These Life Wardens were brought into existence in the form of trees, who would forever live on Jorvik. The humans discovered these trees, respected them, and let them live. The humans understood the trees were special, ancient, and that they served a higher purpose. The humans came to call them Primeval Trees.

The Primeval Trees had different looks and abilities and were much stronger and more magnificent in the olden days; their glory days. Today most of the trees slumber. They sleep. Tired and haggard. Lessened in power not least by the exploitation of Jorvik’s natural resources.

It is said that the roots of the Primeval Trees penetrate all of Jorvik, and that the roots are linked together in an enormous network through which they can communicate.

Awesome, huh? Like an ancient internet! Kinda…

linda

You want to hear a little more, right?

It’s a fantastic story which I just have to share with you, and it’s important that you understand.

quest-scarecrow_hill_tree

You and I know of one of these Primeval Trees: the one on top of Scarecrow Hill. As the legend of the Golden Apple foretold, the witches have actually destroyed several Primeval Trees, but they only went for the trees that produce the golden apples, which the wicked witches shun. Other Primeval Trees were left alone.

According to my writings, some kindhearted witches have actually made alliances with the Primeval Trees to help strengthen their magical powers.

At least half a dozen Primeval Trees are known to exist today, mentioned in various records. There could be a lot more. In one place, one of the trees goes by the name of the Sleeping Widow.

To understand this, we need to go far back in history, but I’ll be brief.

quest-forgotten_fields_trees

Once upon a time, the Forgotten Fields was a dense, enormous forest. At least as magnificent as Greendale. The forest was protected by two Primeval Trees, which constituted a happy couple. Everything was great, they were happy together and to the forest flourished – until the earl built Jarlaheim.

When Jarlaheim was built, a great part of the forest was cut down, and the growing population in the area took down more of the forest to make both firewood and more building materials. A stable was also needed for the earl’s cavalry. Jorvik Stables was built, which later housed hundreds of horses.

As more and more of the forest was destroyed, the landscape opened up and made room for necessary grazing grounds where all the earl’s horses could graze and run around during the day.

quest-primeval_stump

In the blind eagerness of mankind, which often arises in their simple minds during times of great expanse, the foresters unfortunately cut down one of the two Primeval Trees in the area. It was a grievous mistake but the damage was already done, and it was irreversible. The surviving Primeval Tree became lonely, and it grieved over the loss of its life companion.

She lost her will to live. Through her grief, and through mankind’s eager destruction and the grazing and stomping of the earl’s horses, the forest eventually died.

During the centuries that have passed since the Primeval Tree became lonely, her wailing has sometimes been heard on the wind. A wail much like a persistent howl, which chases around with the gusts across the windswept hills.

And so there stood one lonely Primeval Tree, and the Forgotten Fields.

The area got its current name – the Forgotten Fields – after the earl’s cavalry and all the horses were no longer needed in Jorvik Stables.

The lost forest and the grazing grounds were later forgotten, since the area no longer served any purpose for the humans.

So much grief, for such a short chapter in history.

They say that the wailing of the Primeval Tree can no longer be heard. It’s not because she has stopped grieving, but rather that she has fallen asleep of exhaustion, resignation, and sorrow. She’s on death’s door, if she isn’t dead already. But we hope she isn’t, of course.

With this knowledge is mind, it’s an easy conclusion to draw that the old tree in the southwest corner of the Forgotten Fields actually is identical to this “Sleeping Widow.”

How everything is connected to Lisa’s current critical location in Pandoria I can’t quite figure out. But if she says the tree must be woken, I guess we’ll wake it.

I myself, would have tried to make my way to Pandoria and tried to save her there, but it’s extremely risky, not to mention impossible to return from there after…

But how do you wake a magical, slumbering Primeval Tree?

linda

Moving tale. Poor Primeval Trees…

Awakening Help

linda

I think you should talk to Elizabeth directly. It seems obvious that this Primeval Tree, the Sleeping Widow, can’t just be woken up by a regular alarm clock. If anyone has any idea of what kind of magic would be required to awake a slumbering Primeval Tree, it must be Elizabeth.

And Rita, I have a certain feeling you’ll get to use your fragment of Aideen’s Light. If you’re not already carrying it in your bag, you should stop by the supply in your stable and bring it with you to Elizabeth. That would save you a lot of time.

Good luck!

Objectives: Ask Elizabeth’s advice. Bring your fragment of Aideen’s Light. You’ll find it in your bag or in the supply of your stable.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

The Aideen’s Light item is unable to be deleted, so if it is not in your inventory, you will find it in your closet in your home stable. You do not need it to complete this quest but you will need it for the following quests.

Ride or transport to Valedale and speak to Elizabeth near her house.

 elizabeth_sunbeam

What a tale. What turn of events! We must indeed awake the Sleeping Widow to see if she can rescue Lisa. If Lisa says it is so, then it must be the way to rescue her from Pandoria. If it doesn’t work, we’ll try to find another way.

Hmm… Maybe the roots of this Primeval Tree reach farther than we could ever expect.

Anyway. I know of two things that can shake that ancient Primeval Tree enough to give it the energy it needs to wake up. The tree needs light, strength, and water. You must do three things.

One. Fill a bottle of Aideen’s Tears. You know, the dew from Aideen’s flowers that grow around here.

Two. Energize the fragment of Aideen’s Light by the rune stones up here, in the same way you did last time. You need to have the fragment with you.

If you don’t have it in your bag, you’ll find it in the supply in your stable.

You can’t have rid yourself of it, so it has to be somewhere, I promise you that.

The third thing you need to do is to illuminate the tree with the energized fragment, and water it with Aideen’s Tears, and these two tasks needs to be performed at night. During the night the magic is undisturbed by the bustle of daytime, and the effect of Aideen’s power is so much stronger.

______________

Energize the Fragment of Aideen’s Light

elizabeth_sunbeam

Take the rune staff and ride up to the rune stones behind the house here, and energize your fragment of Aideen’s Light. This time, do it like this: First, use the rune staff on the rune stone of the sun, and then place the fragment onto the rune stone to energize the shard with the light of Aideen.

If you can’t find the fragment in your bag, you’re guaranteed to have it in the supply of your home stable. You know, a white, shining stone… I know you can’t have lost it.

Objectives: Use the rune staff on the rune stone of the sun, and energize the fragment with power by placing it on the rune stone.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Again, you’ll need the fragment item to complete this quest. It cannot be deleted so it is either in your personal inventory or in your stable inventory.

Go up the hill behind Elizabeth’s house to the open area with the rune stones. Dismount your horse and approach the one with the sun symbol on it. First use the rune staff that was placed in your inventory, to activate the stone. Then use the fragment on the stone to energize it.

When you have energized the fragment, return to Elizabeth.

elizabeth_sunbeam

Magnificent! The fragment has been energized with great power!

L-L-Lisa!

But… But… We have you imprisoned in Pandoria?!

How is this possible?

lisa

Not so confident now, are we? Your knees are shaking all over now that you’re not hiding in ambush. Cowardly lowlifes.

You may outnumber us, but you don’t scare me. I’ll give you a taste of your own medicine!

But… By the Light of Aideen! Justin!

What are you doing with those fools?

Wha…

Me? Well, I… I thought that…

Umm… I mean…

Whoa… I can tell I’ve been gone from this island far too long…

Very well! Stand there with the others, Justin. If that’s what you truly want. Stand there and face the same fate as your new found “friends.”

They got away, but they all learned a lesson. This time I only intended to scare them.

I think the danger has passed. For this time.

Approach Lisa to complete the quest.

lisa

Hi Rita! It’s so good to see a friendly face again! Whooo! Starshine told me that you and Summerblaze were on the way here, you’re a real hero!

You made the Sleeping Widow save me, and Starshine was able to help me out of the crack and away from that horrid Pandoria. No words can describe how grateful we are that you saved me from that place! It was quite the ordeal, I’ll tell you.

Lisa’s Tale

lisa

I’m really grateful you saved me. I mean it. It wasn’t a pleasant experience being imprisoned in Pandoria, I can tell you that much (shiver). Those idiots I just scared off succeeded in ambushing Starshine and I when we were off guard.

This time the story had a happy ending, but this cannot happen again! We really need to be on our watch now, right Rita?

Objectives: Listen to Lisa.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Recount the past events to Lisa.

lisa

Alright. I understand things have been happening on the island?

I haven’t paid much attention to any ongoing events myself, since I’ve more or less been stuck in Pandoria ever since I last stepped into Jorvik Stables. Of course, I could tell you lots of fun stories from my time as a touring rock star, but that’s hardly important right now. We can do that later. And between you and I, Rita, it’s not that cool and glamorous to be a rock star. I’ll have you know, it’s a lot of hard work and stressful tour schedules to keep. And fame isn’t everything.

It’s nice to be back here where my face isn’t that well recognized. At least not any more. The fans forget you quickly, haha! But my friends last forever. I hope you and I will become good friends.

Anyway. Enough about that.

A Night of Much Needed Rest

lisa

You’re right, Rita. We must see the others and meet the druids. I was thinking the same. At least I’ll get an update on the state of things. But before all that I’ll need a change of clothes and a good rest. And something to eat.

Let’s wait with the druids until tomorrow. Rest and recovery goes above all else at this time. I also owe a favor to the Sleeping Widow. But that’ll have to come later.

Objectives: A night’s rest…

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Speak to Lisa again.

lisa

After these escapades, we really need rest. Tomorrow you can ride to Elizabeth and tell her I’m back, so she can summon the druids to a meeting.

Goodnight!

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

fripp

Hi again! And a big thank you to you, Rita. Together with Starshine, you managed to save Lisa! Finally Lisa’s back.

Brilliant!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Really, Rita! Great work!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

It’s good to be back and see you all! I’ve really missed you! At one point I thought I’d never see daylight again. But now I’m here again, with all my friends.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

fripp

The Soul Riders are almost at full strength, and soon we’ll have gathered all four partial copies of the Light Ceremony book. When we’re ready and the time has come, we’ll perform the Light Ceremony and be protected. For now though, the time isn’t right.

Lisa, you should know that Dark Core has their hands on the original Light Ceremony Book. Everything points to that they’ll attempt to conduct the ceremony backwards, which will catastrophic consequences.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

That doesn’t sound good at all! What will they gain by this? What is their goal?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

fripp

If they perform the ceremony backwards, the crack between our reality and Pandoria will widen. In the worst case, that which keeps our worlds separated will tear apart. What exactly happens next, we don’t really know. One guess is that both our worlds will cease to exist. Or at least cease existing in the form and shape we know today.

Dark Core thinks they’ll be able to control the enormous flow of Pandoric energy, and will likely use it in an attempt to seize control of the world. Maybe they know something we don’t, but the druids are convinced it cannot lead to anything good…

It will probably lead to the end of the world, so it needs to be stopped at all costs.

That was a brief summary of the current situation.

Lisa, could you tell us what happened to you? You were kidnapped and taken to Pandoria?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

As you all know, I was on a world tour with my rock band and I’d been away from Jorvik for a while. When I finally ended my tour and came back to Jorvik, those ill-witted Dark Riders succeeded in ambushing Starshine and me. Then they imprisoned me in the horrific world of Pandoria.

Starshine and I weren’t on our guard. That’s a mistake we’ll never repeat.

Later I was rescued, as you all know. Thank goodness. In Pandoria I got in touch with the Primeval Tree, the Sleeping Widow. It was blurred and unclear, but her roots seemed to penetrate even into the unknown world of Pandoria. The Primeval Tree slept in our world, but in the dreamscape of Pandoria she could reach out to me and communicate.

She said she could help me out of Pandoria, but the only way to do so was to wake her up. As a gesture in return, I was to help her with something. I don’t know what yet, but I plan to find out.

My time in Pandoria is incoherent and blurred, but one other thing happened. I got a strong feeling Anne was there at the same time as me. It wasn’t just a weak sensation. I could really feel her presence and it was clear. Because of this, I’m convinced Anne is there, and we have to try to save her.

Maybe the Primeval Tree can help us again, I don’t know…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

fripp

Interesting news. Maybe Anne is in Pandoria. It would be great if we could locate her and save her as well. I would go so far as to say it’s completely necessary. In a worst case scenario, it would require a rescue operation in Pandoria, but that’d have to be our last resort.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

elizabeth_sunbeam

At full strength, we would be very powerful! We’d also need to be aware of the dangers of a trip to Pandoria. One does not simply walk into Pandoria.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

I am not afraid! We have to save her no matter what the risk. We owe it to her. If we have the slightest lead, we have to follow it up.

We’re always there for each other one hundred percent!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Yes, Alex. We’ll do that. No doubt about it. I don’t long to go back, but for Anne’s sake…

Hmm… Another matter. I wonder if we can lure Justin away from the grip of the Dark Riders? He an I went to the same school, I know him a little.

And Rita, you know him a bit too, right?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

elizabeth_sunbeam

If we can remove Justin from Dark Core and the Dark Riders, they’ll weaken even more. It’s true. At least Rita stopped Justin from turning his horse into a Dark Horse. That’s good.

Last time Rita visited the headquarters of Dark Core and saw Justin, he seemed quite determined to continue to work for the dark side.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

We’ll have to think of something to make him change his mind. Hmm…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

fripp

If you could remove Justin from Dark Core, it would be a massive achievement. But for now we’ll focus on the Light Ceremony we’ll be performing when the time is right. We’ll also keep an eye on any movements the Dark Core makes. We also need to find the other copies of the book, and try to rescue Anne.

This meeting is adjourned for now. We’ll see each other again soon. Welcome back to reality, Lisa. And yet again, many thanks to you Rita, for your efforts for the Keepers of Aideen.

May the light of Aideen shine upon us, and scatter the darkness that surrounds us.

And listen, Lisa. Don’t forget to return the favor. The Primeval Trees have a tendency of primeval rage if they feel tricked, and the wrath of the Primeval Tree is the last thing we need just now.

See you!

When you return to reality, ride back down to Elizabeth and speak to her.

Rounding Off at Elizabeth’s

elizabeth_sunbeam

Did we get wiser? Lisa’s been rescued thanks to you, and we have a lead on Anne… But other than that, we’re still going over the same ground. We need to collect the other two book copies so we can prepare ourselves to perform the ceremony when the time comes.

Later we need to follow up on the information about Anne. But are we really ready to conduct a rescue operation in Pandoria? Isn’t that doomed to fail? Maybe there’s another way… Maybe the Sleeping Widow can help us again, but before that we probably have to return her favor.

Objectives: Listen to Elizabeth.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Listen to Elizabeth’s final advice.

We’ll have to keep our eyes and ears on the Dark Riders and their antics. It’s obviously important to them to destroy us, and they nearly took you to Pandoria.

We need to take counter-action.

Life Goes On at the Sunfield Farm

filip_sunfield

Hello Rita! Lovely to see you again. It’s good you stopped by actually, there’s tons to do here! So much so that I was close to forgetting my wife’s birthday! She’s absolutely terrifying if I miss it, and she’d probably kill me if I forgot it again after forgetting it last year! I haven’t got the time to get her a present though, there’s way too much for me to be getting on with here at the farm, and by the time I’m done, the shops will be closed.

Any bright ideas?

Flowers? Yeah! She loves flowers! Great idea!

Reckon I could ask you a favor? Could you gather a few flowers and give her a little bouquet? You can? Excellent! Thanks!

Pick some flowers and give them to her from me. Don’t forget to wish her a happy birthday!

Objectives: Pick some flowers and give them to Martina Sunfield.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Lazy bastard can’t even deliver his own damn gift. Well then…

Pro tip! This is exactly how NOT to be with your significant other!

martina_sunfield

Oh, what lovely flowers! Are they for me? From Filip! Oh, my husband is just too adorable! Just to think, he forgot my birthday last year and knew I would’ve had a word or two to say if he did it again this year!

Hmm… Listen, Rita, here at the farm, there’s always lots to do! If you could help us out with a few little jobs, it’d give Filip and I a little time over to build up our new company. It’s something we’ve been thinking about for so long, but never had time to do.

Hello Rita. I’ve got a message for you. I’m right in thinking I can trust you not to tell anyone, right? It’s a little bit sensitive…

See, Isolde asked me if I knew anybody who could help her with a sensitive task and I thought of you immediately. She really wants to talk to Tristan and try to set things right between them but he just refuses to talk to her.

Would you be able to talk to Isolde? She really needs your help.

Me and Loke want us all to be friends again, but I don’t know how I can make Tristan understand. Can you talk to him Rita? As soon as I try to talk to him, he just narrows his eyes at me and turns away. You’ll talk to him?

It’s her fault! All of this is her fault! Her and Loke… If they’d never met, then I’d never have had to steal those stupid chickens. Why do I have to work here with these filthy pigs? Should be Loke doing this, not me.

Everything is Loke’s, Isolde’s, and YOUR fault, Rita. You can tell her that from me.

Pardoning a Criminal

Tristan really has changed, don’t you think, Rita? He works hard from morning until night without whining or complaining. Yesterday, at sunset, I told him he was done for the day, but he said he couldn’t possibly finish until he was through with the task he’d started.

Not just that, Rita. Before, he would be lazy and cut corners but now he does everything brilliantly and finishes everything to total perfection. I couldn’t even do what he does as well as he does it!

He’s truly changed, and I think he’s served his punishment but I’d like to know what his mum, Idun, has to say about it. She’s also part of this and I don’t want to act without her opinion.

Rita, could you ride over there and ask Idun Goldspur if she agrees I could release Tristan?

It actually doesn’t feel like much to celebrate. I really enjoyed working hard and doing the best I could.

In the beginning, I hated my punishment, but now I really think I’ve changed; now I’m the person I always wanted to be but could never bring myself to try being. You know what, from now on I’m going to work hard and do my best in everything I do. I’ve got you to thank for this Rita… Now it’s time for my new life to start! The first thing I’m gonna do is go home and apologize to my sister and Loke for all the trouble I’ve caused. I don’t know if I can ever make it up to them, but I’m certainly gonna try. Rita, I hope we meet again. You can come by Goldspur Farm and hang out with me anytime. Promise you’ll stop by!

See ya Rita!

Hey all!

I’ve become really alarmed at the amount of spam the site is getting, and I wouldn’t really care if they were links to harmless websites. Unfortunately, a lot of it is for porn sites or sites for unhealthy weight loss products. I am always aware of the younger audience that visits this site and I don’t want that stuff posted on my site. I always delete spam comments but sometimes they may be visible for quite some time before I see them. I also don’t like turning off comments completely when I go away for any amount of time. I really don’t think that’s fair to you guys.

So, I’ve been debating doing this for a while now, and I think it will really make me feel better and help reduce the amount of spam on the site.

All first time-comments must be approved before they appear on the site, then once you have a previously approved comment, you will be able to comment however much you want. I’m not concerned about you guys, the readers. I have only had to block two people in the almost three years the site has been open. I’m glad everyone finds the site helpful and I enjoy the friendly conversation going on in some of the comment pages.

I check the blog every day (sometimes several times a day) and will approve comments as I get them. As stated before, you only need to have one previously approved comment to be able to comment as much as you want. If you are a first time comment author, please be patient, and unless your post is inappropriate, it will be approved.

Though it means a tiny bit more work for me, I don’t care as long as I can have the peace of mind knowing that there will be less spam on the site.

I love you all and as always, thank you for the wonderful support you all have given me in running this blog.

Happy riding!

It is time to pay our debts to the Sleeping Widow for rescuing Lisa. Speak to Lisa and Starshine at Jorvik Stables, near the stables’ inn.

A Debt to Pay

lisa

Hi Rita! Now I feel truly rested after our recent hardships.

I’m ready to talk with the Sleeping Widow to be able to repay the debt I have to her after she helped me out of Pandoria.

Perhaps you can help me with that?

You know that ancient tree better than I do at this point, and I have the feeling that I won’t exactly get away with being given an easy task.

Objectives: Talk to Lisa.

Rewards: 12 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

Well, we do owe her for saving your life…

I’m curious as to what it could be…

Last one to the Primeval Tree is a little piggy!

Take whatever route you like! Hmm… I’m thinking I’ll probably go through Goldspur Farm and over the north of Grey Dew Mountain.

Starshine! Run like the wind! Woohoooo!!

Objectives: Ride together with Lisa to the Sleeping Widow.

Rewards: 13 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

This quest is a race with a time to get to the Sleeping Widow, though you get seven minutes to complete, so it is ample enough time to take whichever route you choose. Lisa will run ahead of you quickly and you will lose her at about the Jarlaheim gates, no matter the speed of your own horse. Continue your trek to the Sleeping Widow and the race will end when you get there.

lisa

Hahaha! That was fun! You did it! You won!

So I guess that means it’s me who’s the little piggy, hahaha! But little pigs are cute too, right?!

Yet another tale of woe and worry…

lisa

Oh! You’re awake after all.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

sleeping_widow

Creeeeaaakkkk… My dear friend. I’m as awake as I can be.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Firstly, I just want to repeat my thanks for helping me out of Pandoria’s prison. Without your help and the help of Starshine and Rita, I’d never have been able to leave.

I’m here to repay my debt to you. I’m completely at your service. What could I possibly do to repay that which you did for me?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

sleeping_widow

Creeeaakkk…

I helped you out of your prison.

Now I want you to help me out of mine.

My wish is that you help me once again become a part of the contact network of the Primeval Trees and I’m certain you can help me.

Creeeeakkk… Humans took the lives of my kin with their barbaric deforestation. Such despicable treatment! I will never forgive them, even though they realized it was a hideous mistake.

Traitors. Deceitful in soul and nature.

Well, well… Creeeeakk. As if it wasn’t enough that I was left alone when the lives of my kin were torn down, I was also disconnected from our network.

Because of all this death, the roots that connected me to my kin withered away and died, leaving me isolated from our community.

Creeeakkk…

My roots may well reach all the way to Pandoria, but they don’t reach as far as the next living Primeval Tree. My companion was the link between me and the next tree and was therefore my only connection to the network of roots that make it possible for us to communicate! Creaakkkk…

Creeeeakk… I haven’t been in touch with my kind in centuries.

I thought perhaps you might help in taking care of that, Lisa and Rita.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Dearest ancient tree! It’s a true honor to receive such a task. Do you have any, umm… Some kind of, err, suggestion as to how we might exactly go about it?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

sleeping_widow

Crreeeeakk… Ah, Lisa. I have a suggestion.

When Aideen came to the world, she healed the land and spread life over the dead cliffs. With her song, her music, and her light, you can ride over the bay and bring my roots back to life so that I might reconnect with the Primeval Tree at Scarecrow Hill.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Eh…?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

sleeping_widow

Creaakk? Difficult? No, no, my little friends. Aideen did it and so can you.

Creak…

You’re not trying to wriggle out of our agreement, are you? You won’t disappoint me? Like all the other treacherous humans have always done…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Of course not! Not all humans are deceitful in their soul and nature! We are definitely not petty traitors. But the legend of Aideen’s ancient exploits is exactly that: Just a legend! How do we…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

sleeping_widow

Creeeeeakkkk!!

I don’t know how you’ll do it. Aideen could. You’ll simply have to figure out how she did it. Now it’s just a matter of a few roots; Aideen actually created life! I’m not asking for those kinds of miracles from you.

How hard can it be?

Creeeaaakk…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

How… No. It… It can’t be that difficult.

Or?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

sleeping_widow

My roots need to reach right across the bay. You can see the Primeval Tree on Scarecrow Hill from here. So close, yet so, so far away. When my roots reach the other side, I’ll be part of the network of Primeval Trees again.

You must help me! Creeeeaaakkk…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

We’ll do our absolute best.

We promise to do everything in our power to help you.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

sleeping_widow

Creeeaaakkk… I know you’re capable. Aideen was.

I’ve spoken now.

It’s up to you to get this done. The time for talking is over.

Creeeaaaaakkk…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Hmm? Ride over water? Bring dead roots back to life? How’s that going to work? This all sounds pretty tricky. I doubt it’ll work out.

Quest completed

______________

The Dead Tree

lisa

I’ve got no idea how we’ll follow through on her request.

I suppose we can at least start with a little reconnaissance. Let’s get going and see if we can locate the remains of the sawn-down Primeval Tree.

I seem to remember seeing a huge tree stump when I’ve been riding by the beach a little north of here… Let’s go and check it out!

Objectives: Ride to the stump of the dead Primeval Tree and talk to Lisa.

Rewards: 13 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

Follow Lisa to the stump of the dead tree. If you happen to lose sight of her, the location is marked on your minimap.

lisa

So, here’s where the Primeval Tree used to stand proudly before it was sawn down centuries ago. Around here is roughly were the Sleeping Widow’s roots reach. We’re going to make sure the roots grow out over the bay here and right across the beach at Golden Hills Valley on the other side. See?

Follow Lisa to the shore where the roots reach out. This location is also marked in case you lose sight of her.

lisa

Ah, here’s a better view. See? Right down there, I can imagine how the roots would push outwards… They’re a few feet down below the water’s surface, but it’s here they reach and no farther. Hmm.

How’s this ever going to work?

Can’t we just pull some string across the bay and attach a couple of tin cans on either end? Easier to just talk on a tin can phone, right? Hahaha!

Nah, sorry. Seriously though, it’s pretty obvious we need help.

Sage Advice

lisa

We need advice. Linda knows loads about the Primeval Tree, and Elizabeth is usually full of wisdom. Linda and Alex are most often to be found on spy duty along the coast. They’re keeping a lookout in case Dark Core’s hoods come ashore someplace. Sometimes they’re free though, and in those cases, Linda’s almost definitely at the Vineyard.

I can ride over to Valedale and talk to Elizabeth if you go to the Vineyard and get Linda’s advice?

Oh my…

Objectives: Listen to Linda’s advice.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

While she has her doubts, at least she’s not as much of a negative nancy that Lisa is…

linda

When I read about the Primeval Trees and their fate, I also learned that the Sleeping Widow was cut off from the network of roots and so can’t communicate with the others. I really understand why she’d asked you to do this; it must be awful to be so isolated in that way.

But bringing life to dead roots, or even getting her roots to grow across an entire bay? Sounds complex to me. That said, those Primeval Trees are wise.

They know things we don’t know…

Maybe it’s possible to do as Aideen did in the legend somehow. You’ve got the fragment with her light, and we know that the legend claims the light can bring life to the dead, I mean the Sleeping Widow herself reacted to the light and those tears…

Hmm…

According to the legend, Aideen had a harp in one hand and the life-giving light of Jor’s Flame in the other when she rode across the water.

The legend says that her music and her life is what brought forth life to Jorvik.

Lisa possesses the strong healing power of the Star Circle.

With Lisa’s healing magic, and if you’ve got the light and the harp… Maybe you can actually do something similar to that which Aideen did in the legend?

Maybe it’s precisely what the Primeval Tree means. Maybe it can actually get the roots to grow over the seabed of the bay and reach the other side…

Maybe.

Maybe you don’t literally need to actually ride over the water. Surely you can use a boat? Either way, you’ll need the harp and I know where it is.

Oh! I have a text message on my cell from Lisa!

She says she’s spoken to Elizabeth, who seems to think that if you play the right melody on Aideen’s harp, you can actually ride over the water! Lisa’s apparently got all the info about how to learn the melody which makes it all possible. She’s on her way in a horse trailer…

Where were we? Oh yeah, all these ‘maybes’…

It seems as though Aideen’s harp is on display at the museum at Jorvik City. They usually have it on show when they have their historical exhibitions.

Hey, by the way, did you know that this is the actual harp that’s on Jorvik’s flag?

quest-jorvik_flag

The green on the flag represents the beautiful green island of Jorvik and the luscious and rich life which covers the island. The blue above the green represents heaven, and the blue below is the sea. The white lines symbolize timelines from history and for the future.

But enough about Jorvik’s flag, now.

Look, here comes Lisa!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Hey guys! Got anything yet?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Yeah Lisa, we have.

I was just saying that however weird it might sound, you might just be able to mimic Aideen’s legendary life-bringing movements, just as the Primeval Tree seems to want.

Rita has the fragment. You Lisa, have got the healing magic from the Star Circle. Elizabeth already told you that you can ride over the water with the help of a melody played on Aideen’s harp.

If that works, you won’t even need to think about cheating with a boat!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Amazing! It sounds totally crazy but it’s worth a try in any case. The worst that can happen is that we get a bit wet ’round the hooves!

I’m super doubtful as to whether it’ll even work though.

Ah well, I guess it’ll be me playing the harp then, since I’m pretty well used to string instruments.

Rita, you’re alright with shining the light fragment? Y’know, since you’ve used it before and all?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Aideen’s fragment which is with Rita is still loaded with light so it doesn’t need to be recharged. That’s good. But back to the harp.

Sadly the museum in Jorvik City is closed for refurbishment.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Yeah, typical. I heard that from Elizabeth, but she said the Councilman in Silverglade Village is friends with the museum curator… And you, Rita… You know the Councilman pretty well, right?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Smart!

Rita, you ride over to the Councilman and ask if he wouldn’t mind asking the curator for a favor by opening up the museum and lending us the harp for a while, okay?

Then it sounds like we’ve got a plan, right?!

Quest completed

______________

Do You Know the Museum Curator?

linda

We’ll meet up again here after you’ve spoken to the Councilman in Silverglade Village.

Until then, I’m going to see if I can try to convince the butler to give us a ride to Jorvik City in his car…

Objectives: Talk to the Council Man in Silverglade Village.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

I know the Muffin Man but not the Museum Curator, but I’m always open to making new friends…

Ride to Silverglade Village and find the Council Man near the Town Hall.

council_man

Rita! Wonderful weather, no? Almost every day it’s this nice! Have you thought about that?

Hmm? If I know the Museum Curator in Jorvik City?

The Curator Catches On

council_man

I know the Museum Curator very well indeed! We’re old classmates, him and I. I can guarantee he’ll let you in and let you borrow anything you need if I put in a good word for you. I’ll do that of course. Put in a good word, that is. You can put my good word in the bank!

I’ll call him right after you leave.

You can ride back to your friends and let them know that the curator will absolutely welcome you with open arms! Of that you can be certain!

Objectives: Talk to Lisa and tell her that the Curator is on board.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

Return to the Winery and tell Lisa the news.

lisa

Fantastic! Now we know that at least we’re welcome at the museum!

Now it’s just a case of getting there…

Convince That Butler!

linda

The miserable old fossil doesn’t want to take us to Jorvik City!

At least not without our parents’ permission. Stupidest thing I’ve ever heard… Godfrey and the Baroness owe us pretty big and I’m not sure they even realize that we’re not kids anymore.

Can’t you try and convince him?

Objectives: Convince Godfrey the butler to drive you to Jorvik City Museum.

Rewards: 13 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

“Convince That Butler!”, the newest gameshow coming to Jorvik this fall!

Speak to Godfrey to ask if he will drive you and your friends to Jorvik City.

godfrey

Hmm…? Rita! Hello, hello! Pffff…

It’s rather strange how everybody suddenly wants to go to the big city. You’re a responsible lass with decent judgement, so I rather expect it would be quite fine for you to come along to Jorvik City.

That said, it shan’t be happening before tomorrow, as it’s then that I have business to attend to in town. You shall have to remain patient until then, for a little order and regulation goes quite the distance, you see.

Quest completed

Return to Godfrey tomorrow.

Dismount your horse to speak to Godfrey, so that you can set off to the museum.

Visiting Jorvik City Museum!

godfrey

Right then ladies! Let’s get going!

To the museum in Jorvik City, here we go! No ice cream in the car though… They seats are clean and they’ll be staying that way.

Objectives: Borrow the harp of Aideen from the Museum Curator and return to Silverglade.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

You will be transported to the museum lobby. Move forward with Lisa and Linda to speak to the Curator, who is standing at the entrance.

museum_curator

Good day to you! Welcome, welcome!

I’m terribly proud to welcome you to Jorvik City Museum. Sadly, we’re closed right now because of all the refurbishment work we’re doing, but my good friend the Council Man has put in something of a good word for you young ladies.

The Council Man’s friends are my friends!

Since you’re my friends now, I shall of course open up the Museum for you!

I understand you seek to loan something from our collection, hmm?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Yes, dear Curator. We pray humbly to borrow Aideen’s harp.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

museum_curator

Oh… Umm, ah. It’s a real treasure and a terribly fragile artifact, you see. It’s unique in its kind, and if the myth has any truth in it, it is really tremendously special! I don’t really know…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Our intentions are good, Curator. If we hadn’t been absolutely desperate, we would never had the cheek to ask! This is really important to us, and I swear by Aideen’s Light that we’ll bring it back to you in perfect condition.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

museum_curator

Well, well, I do suppose I promised the Council Man I’d help out. His friends are, as I said, my friends. If you promise to guard it with your life and return it no later than tomorrow, then I rather suppose it would be acceptable for you to borrow it. Did you know by the way that we’ve never been able to date the harp? We only know it’s incredibly old.

Unfortunately all of our exhibits are in storage because of the renovation, so you’ll have to help me find it if you don’t mind… Rather silly of me, but I don’t actually have the inventory we made when we packed it all away, so it’s rather chaotic here. I know it’s in one of those boxes in the corner.

You seem to be sharp and quick little youngsters, so you’ll be sure to find it amongst these things in no time at all. While you’re at it, you could even jot down a quick new inventory for me so that I know what’s in each box.

That way, you can lend a hand since I’m lending you the harp!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Of course, Curator, of course.

Click on each box shown on the screen to open it and discover its contents. Continue opening boxes until you have found the harp. Click on it to pick it up.

museum_curator

How wonderful that you found Aideen’s Harp! Do excuse the disarray here, but now I’ve got help getting started with the new inventory! That was handy.

So, you’ve got what you came for. Don’t forget to return it in the condition you received it. It’s so very precious, so you must handle it with extreme care and respect…

Until we meet again!

Follow Lisa and Linda to the door to return to the Winery.

godfrey

Finally home again! That went well. Maybe I could be convinced to drive you into the city again some other time. But only maybe.

Meeting Before Daybreak

lisa

So, we’ve got the harp, but not the melody. I remember how to learn it though, since Elizabeth told me exactly how.

One has to be high up in a place surrounded by the silence and stillness of daybreak. If you have a gentile and kind enough soul, you’ll be able to hear Aideen’s melody on the wind…

We Soul Riders should have enough of the right spirit to make this work, says Elizabeth.

One of the better places to hear the beautiful, mystic melody of Aideen is to embrace the dawn winds on top of the West Wall Cliff, but it’s hard to get to.

Rita, y’know the path up to the Mountaineering Hut north of Firgrove?

Hmm…

Well, let’s do it this way…

Meet me on the path up the Firgrove Mountain Passage, north of Firgrove, just north of where the Firgrove Championship starts, so we ride to the cliffs together before dawn.

Objectives: Meet Lisa by the mountain trail just north of Firgrove. Follow her to the West Wall Cliff.

Rewards: 13 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

Ride or transport to Firgrove and meet Lisa on the trail outside of the village. If you do not know the location, it is highlighted on your minimap.

lisa

Hey Rita! You’re here already!

We’re a little early, but we can go to the place they call the West Wall Cliff, and wait for daybreak there.

Seriously though, Rita, I don’t think this is gonna work. Riding on the water… We’ll see. I hope it works out though. I really hope with all my heart that we can do this and repay what we owe to the Primeval Tree.

It’s misty up on the mountain top and there’s wolves up there. Ah, well. Come with me now and stay close. The path is steep and dangerous, and the location is hard to find.

Come on!

Follow Lisa up to the cliff.

It was easy for me to follow her, but I got disconnected from the server after this quest and had to find my way back up there on my own and found that difficult. In case that happens, if you lose Lisa on the way there, or want to find it on your own, here is a video that shows the route she takes up to the cliff.

lisa

Here it is! Wonderful views! Isn’t it beautiful? Lovely that the mist clears a little all the way up here.

Quest completed

Aideen’s Song at First Light

lisa

Then we’re only waiting for daybreak. We’ll sit here and eat some chocolates while we wait.

Objectives: Listen to Aideen’s song in the dawn light.

Rewards: 13 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

Await the coming of daybreak, and when the song appears to you, click to catch each glowing piece of the song. You may have to move your horse around on the cliff and rotate your camera to easier catch each song piece.

lisa

Her song was so beautiful! Now I’ve learned the melody, we’re all done here.

Quest completed

______________

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare!

lisa

Right then. Let’s rest a little here in this beautiful spot and practice the piece of music a little before we try to pull off this feat later.

See you down by the beach when we feel ready… Next to where the roots stop.

You’ve got the Fragment of Aideen’s Light, haven’t you? Don’t forget to bring it with you.

Objectives: Take Aideen’s Light with you and meet Lisa by the beach, right by where the roots stopped.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

Make your way back down the cliff, or you know, cheat and call for pickup, whichever you prefer, haha…

Be sure to have the Light fragment in your personal inventory. It cannot be deleted, so it is either in your backpack or your stable supply.

When you are ready, meet Lisa on the beach in Forgotten Fields, where you previously found the place that the Sleeping Widow’s roots reach the farthest. The location is marked on your minimap.

lisa

Hi! You excited? You’ve got the Light of Aideen with you?!

Then let’s give this melody a go, shine the light from the fragment and then ride over the water to the beach just below Scarecrow Hill. Sounds simple, right?

Quest completed

______________

Over the See in Aideen’s Footsteps

lisa

Right, we’ll ride over the water here if everything’s as it should be. Stay close to me and shine the Aideen Fragment at even intervals; the roots must be healed with an even and steady flow. Keep pace with me or you’ll end up in the water and we’ll have to start over!

Objectives: Ride close to Lisa. Shine Aideen’s Fragment at regular, even intervals.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Reputation: 25 with Keepers of Aideen

Stay close enough to Lisa to remain on her magic circle of light above the water. At the same time, click the button to shine the light at regular intervals. It cannot be used too many times in a row, but also do not let the magic meter empty or you will have to start over. Don’t fall in the water either, or its back to the beginning.

Reach the other side safely and speak to Lisa there.

lisa

Woah. What have we done?! Seems like it actually worked! I’m speechless. I never thought it could happen… I think we’ve performed a miracle!

Quest completed

______________

Paid Those Dues?

lisa

It’s not every day we get to make a miracle happen… Now we should ride off to the Sleeping Widow and make sure everything is in order and that she feels we’ve paid our debt to her! See you by the Primeval Tree!

Objectives: Talk to the Sleeping Widow and make sure she thinks you’re all even.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

The quickest way to get there is to ride to the Riding Hall and cross the water behind the Hall and into the Forgotten Fields.

Whichever route you choose to take, meet Lisa by the Sleeping Widow.

sleeping_widow

Creeeeakkk… Greetings my little kittens. You’ve done incredible deeds and have fully repaid your debt to me with the tasks I asked for. I now have re-established contact with my kinsmen and my life now has a new meaning. All thanks to you!

Thank you my beauties. Go in peace.

A Challenge Remains

lisa

Fantastic. Now we’ve restored the balance! Hahaha, there I was thinking we’d never do it. Luckily I was wrong!

There’s just one thing left to do and that’s to return the harp to the museum.

Hmm? You want to do it? Fine by me, haha! See you later at the Vineyard. I’m going to see if I can find Alex, who should be on guard somewhere or other. I’m dying to tell her what we’ve been up to!

Here’s the harp! Handle it with care. When you have it in your grasp, you can really get a feel for just how old it is. Hopefully our bitter butler is down with driving you into the city again.

Objectives: Take Aideen’s Harp back to the museum. Ask if Godfrey, the butler, would be able to drive you there again.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 5 with Keepers of Aideen

Return to the Winery and speak to Godfrey there.

godfrey

Ah, good day to you! Hhnnnggg… Back to the museum?! Again?!

Hmm, well I rather thought as much since you’d probably need to be heading back with the harp. Well, if one has applied oneself to a task, it’s best that one sees it through to the very end, even if it is in the role of a private chauffeur. Well, you should let me clean the harp first. Perhaps it needs a little attention after having been used.

It’s not often one gets the chance to handle such a beautiful artifact outside the museum walls, you know.

Quest completed

______________

The Return

godfrey

See? There we are! Now the harp is beautifully clean and looks in lovely condition. Now let’s head to the museum! Here, hold onto the harp the whole way there so that nothing happens to it. To the museum!

Objectives: Give the harp back to the Curator at Jorvik City Museum.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 15 with Keepers of Aideen

Approach the Curator to speak to him and show him you returned with the harp.

museum_curator

Ah, look! Look who it is! Welcome back to Jorvik City Museum!

And, ah, look! The harp is with you and it looks just like how it did when you loaned it, not that I would expect anything else of course!

I truly hope you got good use from the beautiful old thing. Set it down carefully in this box, if you would.

You’re the Council Man’s friends, and his friends are of course my friends, and friends are always welcome at the Museum, regardless of whether it’s open or closed like it is now for refurbishment!

Until next time, friends!

Goodbye, goodbye!

Leave the harp back carefully in that empty box beside me and then we’re all done!

Goodbye! Farewell!

Click to place the harp into the open box beside the Curator, then head towards the door to return to the Winery.

Speak to Godfrey when you arrive.

godfrey

So, you’d say we were finished to-ing and fro-ing to the museum? Splendid.

Day 88, A New Horse Transport for the Riding Hall

$

Speak with the Baroness at the Silverglade Winery about setting up a horse transport trailer by the Riding Hall.

A New Way to Get to the Riding Hall

baroness

Good day to you, dear Rita. Do you think you’d be able to help me with a little task I can’t really manage myself? You can?! Oh, you’re a true wonder!

You see, I’ve long thought about organizing a horse trailer to transport folk to the Riding Hall way down beneath the vines, but I’ve never been able to find a way to get it down there. The hill is far too steep to drive the trailer down, so one would think it was possible to come from the direction of Cape West Village, but the bridge across from there is broken.

But I had a little chat with my old friend Jakob Goldspur the other day and he told me that there is a passage between the Forgotten Fields and the Riding Hall. “Wonderful to hear!,” I said, and Jakob promised that he would run the transport over here as soon as it was delivered to Jarlaheim. A few days ago or so, I was told that the shipment had been delivered, but still no sign of Jakob. I tried calling but get no response.

Do you think you could ride over to Jakob and see what’s happened? Thanks so much Rita, it’s lovely to know I have a friend like you that I can always rely on!

Objectives: Ride over and talk to Jakob Goldspur in the Harvest Counties.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Find Jakob at the Goldspur Mill, east of Jarlaheim.

What Can Go Wrong If the Mayor is Helping Out?

jakob_goldspur

Cough cough… Sniffle… Ugh.

You’re here for the Baroness’s trailer, I guess? I’m so full of flu that I can’t drive it today. I’ve barely been able to get out of bed for the past few days and don’t feel like it’s getting better any time soon. But here, I asked Jack for help and he promised he’d take care of it.

If Jack’s the best man for the job? Umm, well sure he’s a little irresponsible sometimes, but he gave me his strongest assurance that he wouldn’t be any trouble. Plus, Jack’s not even driving; I’ve hired an experienced driver to take care of it. All Jack has to do is mark out the passage for the trailer to take between Forgotten Fields and the Riding Hall.

He’s waiting down by the harbor, so ride down and talk to him. Have a lovely day, Rita and good luck!

Objectives: Ride to the harbor and talk to Jack Goldspur.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Find Jack down at the Jarlaheim Harbor, near the ferry station and Stablebucks cafe.

Right, I’m off, see you at the Riding Hall!

Objectives: Look for Jack. If you find the flags that rolled out of the trailer, you’ll surely find him. Don’t forget to pick up the flags!

jack_goldspur

Hey there!

Nice work on picking up those flags, they’re apparently supposed to be stuck up along some path or something. Must be something up with the trailer door if they’re just falling out like that.

Hmm? If I checked whether the door was closed before I set off?

Mehhh, I haven’t got time for checking that kind of boring junk. If you wanna keep control of that kind of thing, you should hire a professional.

Dear old Dad should’ve thought about that before he started out on this whole project.

Hey, besides, I think there’s something wonky with this map. There’s no Riding Hall on here…

Objectives: Find Jack again. Pick up the flags on the road.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

You’re gonna see something pretty awesome now, Rita… I’m gonna jump the whole gap between here and Forgotten Fields!

What do you mean, not sure? Use the bridge? Meh, you’re so boring. But yeah, whatever Grandma. Still gonna put my foot down though! Faster than a speeding bullet!

Seeya whenever, slowcoach!

What, you can see it from here? Yeah, look! Haha! Amazing! Now it’s ON! I’m gonna jump the trailer over the water, in through the window of the Riding Hall, pull a sweet skid, and bring it to a stop right between the obstacles. What? Not a good idea?

Meh, can’t even cope with how boring you are right now. See you at the Riding Hall, Grandma.

But, listen Rita, take those flags from the trailer and mark out the passage so I can drive over to the Riding Hall. Seriously, I’m starting to get really bored with those old heap of junk… Shouldn’t we just head back to Jarlaheim and play video games instead?

 No?

Hmm. Okay then, but this is the last thing I’m doing with this trailer, anything else you can do yourself. I’ve got crazy-important mayor stuff to take care of.

Objectives: Erect the flags to mark out the passage.

Use the flags in your inventory to mark the passage across the water, three flags on each side of the path. When you are finished, speak to Jack.

jack_goldspur

So, now there’s a couple of flags here to point out where you can cross the water. I have to say, a massive ramp that you could jump over would have been so much cooler.

Hmm. Maybe I should build one instead… I’m the mayor after all.

Good day to you, dear Rita. The trailer is in place? Wonderful! I hope it wasn’t any trouble. This will be appreciated so much by all the riders here in Silverglade, that I can be sure of. As a thank you for your help, I hope you’ll accept this little gift?

Hmm? A bit small? What are you talking about, “too small to use”? Maybe it’s your horse that’s too big, ever thought about it that way?

Hmm… So it has to be bigger. I get it. Well yeah, that’s not impossible to organize.

Wait, it IS impossible? Why would you say that, Rita? Nothing’s impossible at Circus Ydris!

Five Five-Leaf Clovers!

ydris

I’d love to help you increase the size of the horse trailer in the package to a real-life sized trailer if you’d like… You want to do it? Can’t be done you say?! Don’t you know that here at my circus, the only limit to what can be done is the limit of your imagination? Hm?

Now, let me help you! Find me five five-leaf clovers so I can make them into a magic mixture that will solve all your problems!

Hm? Why five-leaf clovers? There’s a mysterious rarity to the five-leaf clover that makes it even more magical and rare and special and wonderful than even the luckiest four-leaf clover! Why? Well, it’s a mystery of course! If we didn’t leave a little mystery, than magic wouldn’t be much fun, now would it Rita?

Objectives: Find five five-leaf clovers for Ydris.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Ride around in the meadow behind Ydris to find the clovers. Pick up five of them, then return to Ydris.

A Hat for the Five-Leaf Clovers

ydris

For my magical mixture to gain its magic powers, it needs to be mixed up in a magic hat. Why? Without a magic hat, there’s not much magic, wouldn’t you think?

You’ve got a circus ticket, right Rita? If you haven’t got it with you, you can get it from your stable. Nobody gets in without a ticket!

In the Big Top, one of my hats is just sitting there waiting for you. Without the hat, I won’t be able to help you with the trailer, see? No hat, no trailer. No socks, no shoes! No hair, no haircut! Wait, what? I should be able to do this without a hat? Only our imaginations are the limit of what’s possible?

Hmm, you’re right, I did say that, but there are rules, Rita! Rules we all have to follow! Even me. Don’t even try to understand; you’re better off not knowing…

Objectives: Get a hat from the Big Top for Ydris.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Use your magic circus ticket (which like the Aideen’s light fragment, can’t be deleted, so if it isn’t in your inventory, it should be in your stable closet) to enter the circus tent. Ride across the ring to pick up the magic hat, then exit the tent to return it Ydris.

ydris

Ooh! You found the hat! Do you feel the magical powers coming from it? Ahh, magic… You can feel it tingling all over! Heehee!

Now I’m going to mix into a mixture the magical mixy mixture! This is gonna turn your tiny trailer into a tip-top trailer!

Caaaa…

Darn it!

Abracadabra!!

Awh, shoot! It doesn’t work.

A Special Ingredient

Seems it needs more powerful ingredients than just the four-leaf clovers! You know what, Rita? Nearby is a powerful man who can help us. A mystical, magical man of magical mysticism. I’m not sure he knows it himself, but his sauces aren’t only known for their magical flavors, in some… circles… but yes! They’re also known for their magical POWERS!

Do you know Ed Field? Oh, you do? Lovely.

Pick Up Some Sticks From the Forest

ed_field

Don’t pout now, Rita! It’s amazing that so many flavor connoisseurs all over Jorvik have opened their eyes to the incredible flavor taste sensations of Ed Field’s Special Sauce!

You know what? I’m going to get started on a fresh batch right away! If you help out a little, it’ll go extra fast. What do you say? Amazing!

The secret of my special sauce is some certain special ingredients, you see… You’ve probably heard about how all the top chefs use a secret blend of herbs and spices, or a secret blend of vegetables in their salads, or a secret blend of flavors in their ice cream? You know already? Well I can certain see I’m not talking to some random amateur here! Haha! Anyway! In my special sauce I use a secret blend of many different sorts of… WOOD!

YES! WOOD! Wood from different trees! GENIUS!

The first type of wood I need is from the trees in Greendale. If you go grab me a whole bunch of sticks from those trees, I’ll fire up the stove and get everything ready. You don’t need to be too picky; regular old sticks off the ground are fine.

Bye!

Objectives: Get some sticks from Greendale and give them to Ed Field.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Airy Wood from Nilmer’s Highland

A type of wood that makes my sauce extra delicious comes from the trees that grow over the bridge in Nilmer’s Highland. It has a kind of airy quality, if you get my drift? You know what? Good luck! See you soon!

[Sorry long title, I couldn't help it!]

Visit Mr Bucket, at his spot in North Link, to discuss arranging a horse trailer to North Link.

Full Speed to North Link!

mr_bucket

Good day to you Rita! So nice of you to visit this remote backwater, it’s certainly not every day we have such lovely visitors!

It is fairly time-consuming to get here. One might not exactly say it was a terribly exciting journey. What if it was somehow possible to shorten the path to Silverglade Village?

Hmm, now that I say it…

Ha! An idea!

Say, Rita, would you be interested in changing the current situation? A so called trailer to North Link could well be a good idea… What do you say?

As you know, I myself must continue in my efforts to poke out any irregularities here at North Link, but you are, shall we say, more mobile than I… I dare say you might well be able to tackle this matter with tremendous enthusiasm! Are you interested?

Good Rita, very good indeed! Then I suggest you begin by consulting the Baroness. Most of the land around here is under her ownership you see. It’s also common knowledge that she’s in possession of the necessary funds for the acquisition of such a vehicle.

Right then! I look forward to, in the not too distant future, a faster and more efficient transportation method for Silverglade Village than hitherto offered. The very best of luck to you, young Rita. Please present the radiant honorable lady Baroness with the very best of my regards.

Objectives: Ask the Baroness about the possibilities for a horse trailer to North Link.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Ride to the Winery and speak to the Baroness there.

Good day to you, dearest Rita. How can I be of assistance this fine day?

Financing the Trailer

baroness

Mr Bucket wants me to organize and pay for a horse trailer to North Link?

I’m afraid I don’t see the use of such a trailer, and I have no grasp of quite why it should be me who should finance such a misadventure. No, Rita, you’ll have to let him know that I’m not interested.

Hmm? What did you say my dear?

It would help you, too?

Hmm…

Well well, I certainly shan’t provide funds, but if you can find someone else who will, then you have my permission to place the trailer on my land next to the racetrack. My view is that if anybody should pay for it, it should be Silverglade Council. A horse trailer to the northern side of the Everwind Fields could well be of benefit to the entire community.

I rather think you should discuss this with the Council Man in Silverglade Village. Bye bye Rita!

Objectives: Ask the Council Man in Silverglade Village about the horse trailer idea.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Well, fine then, be a stingy old bat… I never liked you that much anyway.

Ride to Silverglade Village and speak to the Council Man by the Town Hall.

The Council Man’s Disappearing Clothes

Do please excuse my outfit, Rita; I’m having to wear my ‘backup’ suit today. You don’t see a difference? What luck. What can I do for you today?

A horse trailer to North Link? You’ve already got permission from the Baroness to place it at the Racetrack?

It all sounds rather interesting, but I dare say our budget won’t allow for it right now. Listen, how about you help me with a little problem I’m having and in return, I’ll look over the books and see if there aren’t a few pennies to be pinched here and there from the Council budget. What do you say?

Ah, magnificent! So here’s the thing: this morning, there was a very unfortunate incident that I can’t say I wish to speak of. Anyway… Somebody stole my clothes! Right there from under my nose! Stolen! I do believe however that the cheeky thief threw the clothes away as he or she escaped. Perhaps you could take a look around and see if you could find my jacket, my handkerchief, and my tie. I’d be very grateful indeed. They’ll be here in the village somewhere.

And listen, not a word about this to anyone. Please promise me that!

Objectives: Find the Council Man’s jacket, handkerchief, and tie, which have gone missing around Silverglade Village

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

I promise after all of these little favors, I’ll definitely look into whether I can help you with this trailer idea of yours.

Objectives: Take the Council Man’s jacket to the tailor in Silverglade Village.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Ride to Donald, around the corner, behind Town Hall.

Finding a Needle in Lots of Hay Stacks

donald

Right now, I’m unable to sew anything at all. Sigh.

I was over at Steve’s Farm, looking for stuffing for a chair I’m upholstering for Barney. He wanted a more rustic feel, so I went to Steve’s and looked through all the hay bales there so that I might find the comfiest hay.

During my search, I must have lost my needle… As the old saying goes, something that’s impossible to do is like finding a needle in a haystack, but my needle may well be there amongst any number of haystacks, not just one! How impossible is it going to be to find it?! Sigh. Without my special sewing needle, I quite simply don’t have the desire to work at all.

You’ll take a look for it? Oh my, how lovely! There’s probably not much point, but feel free to try.

If losing my needle wasn’t quite so tragic for me, I’d have had a really good laugh at the irony…

Oh well, good luck. If you find my needle, I promise I’ll mend the Council Man’s jacket right away.

Objectives: Find the tailor’s sewing needle in amongst the bales of hay at Steve’s farm.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Tangle with the Town Hall Trash

council_man

Well, one other thing, my dear. It seems that someone has dumped an extraordinary amount of litter all around the Town Hall. All kinds of papers are flying around all over the place. Could you help me clean up? I have been able to grab most of the papers but there are some swirling so horrifically fast that I just can’t get my hands on them.

Now Rita, don’t throw the papers away once you catch them. They might give a clue as to who might have done the littering in the first place. Or something…

Objectives: Catch all the papers flying around Silverglade Village and return them to the Council Man.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Ride around and catch the swirling papers. They don’t move very quickly so they should be easy to catch. They are all inside the village walls. When you have caught all of them, return to the Council Man.

council_man

You’ve caught up with all the papers flying around the place? Handsome work!

My signature was on them? You should have read them, I said… Hmm, okay.  suppose I should tell you what’s happened.

______________

The Tower of Trousers

council_man

Okay, okay. The papers were all mine, and there wasn’t really a thief who made off with my clothes. It’s all rather embarrassing. I’m certainly no slacker, but this morning I was so very tired that I snuck away to take a little snooze. It’s honestly not something I’d usually do, but somehow this morning I was sleepy enough to have it be the first time. I crept up into the clock tower where there isn’t usually anybody around. I laid down right in front of the clock face so I could have a nice view, and as I was getting comfortable, I noticed that the minute hand was a little off. Not by much, but when you’re right next to it, you may as well do something to try and fix it. I opened up the little hatch next to the clock face and climbed out to set the minute hand straight. I’ve seen Big Bonny do it a hundred times and it looked like a piece of cake, but I can tell you it most certainly was not!

As I reached out, I slipped and fell out of the hatch! I just about managed to grab hold of the minute hand and stopped myself falling to a certain death in the town square.

So there I am, alive at least, but how would I get back up again? I tried to swing my legs to get some kind of grip so that I might lift myself up but it didn’t quite work. The only thing I managed to do was to kick a nest of wasps, and my good gracious, they buzzed out of that nest as quick as a flash!

When I saw them, I of course panicked and somehow managed to get in through the hatch again, but my trousers were still out there on the clock…

I fled down the stairs and through the village and that’s when I lost all the papers along with the rest of my clothes. Up to the castle I ran, and it was only when I got all the way up there that I noticed the wasps had stopped following me. So, now you know the truth. Promise not to tell anyone!

If you could just retrieve my trousers from up in the clock tower, I promise I’ll get that horse trailer on the road for you. Do we have a deal?

Thanks Rita, I can always rely on you! Since you’re much younger and stronger than me, you’ll probably have no problem getting out through the hatch up there and retrieving my trousers.

Thanks again, and good luck!

Objectives: Go up into the clock tower and see if you can find the Council Man’s trousers.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Dismount your horse to enter the small door to the clock tower, near the stairs that go down into the main village square.

When in the clock tower, go all the way to the top to find the Council Man’s trousers.

Quest completed

______________

BZZZZZ!!!

wasps

BZZZZZ!!! BZZZZZZZZZZ!!!

(You’re under attack by furious wasps! Get out of here as quickly as you can! They’re furious!)

Objectives: Hot-foot it out of the Clock Tower before you’re stung by the wasps.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

This quest will take several tries to complete as it is a little difficult without practice!

You have five seconds to run down the stairs and make it to the exit of the clock tower. If you do not reach the exit in time, you will be stung and have to start over.

My advice:

Stop your character as far away from the wasps as you can while still being able to initiate the dialogue. Also, turn your character towards the stairs as much as you can. If you use the keyboard to move, keep your cursor on the screen, about your character’s head (to be able to quickly click on the exit when you reach it). When you are running down the stairs, stay on the opposite side of the next stairwell (i.e. on the far left with the first stairs, then on the far right with the next stairs) so that you can make the wide turn needed to keep the running pace.

I completed it in three or four tries. It is not extremely difficult but will need some preparation and a bit of practice to be able to do it quickly.

When you reach the outside, the wasps will stop chasing you. Speak to the Council Man when you escape.

council_man

Oh! You’ve got my trousers! No? Oh.

You were attacked by wasps you say? Furious you say? I’d have though they’d have flown away by now. What on earth should we do then?

Help From the Wasp Whisperer

council_man

Here, I wonder if Big Bonny could help us? What do you reckon? It’s her clock to all intents and purposes, so I rather think she should step up and help us with this! Rita, be a darling and ask Big Bonny for help, but hurry! These backup trousers aren’t anywhere near as warm as my regular ones, and even though I’m wearing my extra-cozy pink underpants, I’m still freezing my buttons off! Umm… Forget the bit about the pink… Whatever. Yes. Bye.

Ahem! So, Miss Rita, go and ask Big Bonny and I’ll wait here.

Objectives: Ask Big Bonny for help with the wasp issue.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Speak to Big Bonny in front of her house behind the clocktower.

big_bonny

Hello there, Rita, my little dazzling jewel of the skies!

What I’m doing? Well. I just returned from my usual stroll around the village so that I might absorb the love and joy and gratitude so freely beamed towards me by the residents of this breathtaking paradise. It’s almost a touch on the awkward side, you know, having to put up with how much they all look up to me, but it’s a burden I carry with pride. So, what brings you to me on this day? Some kind of heroic deed that you need me to heroically deedify? Some heroically heroic deedification? Hmm?

The Council Man’s trousers are stuck in the clock. In the clock in the Clock Tower.

Rita! Who exactly do you think I am? It’s straight up-and-down shameful that you come to me, ME, with this kind of filthy suggestion. I’m not some kind of filth wizard, you know. His filthy old pants, that he’s hung in my clock tower, and you think I’m some washer woman who’ll just come and take them to him all neatly folded and pressed like I’m some sort of dry cleaning clockmaker?

It’s not laundry? He was about to fall from the tower?! Hmph! Well then, if he’s silly enough to be up there unsupervised in the first place, then his tacky old trousers can very well stay up there. I’ll not for a second be taking them down.

What? Wasps? There were some furious wasps in the tower that scared him so much so that he lost his trousers? Haha! Well, this story just gets more and more ridiculous, Rita, and I think I might very well stop listening before I puncture a lung from laughing so much.

Hang on.

Wait.

STOP! REWIND! REWIND THE TAPE! REWIND, REWIND, REWIND!

WASPS?!!!

WASPS??!!! IN MY CLOCK?!?!?!?!

WHY DOES ALL THIS WICKEDNESS AND ATROCITY ALWAYS VISIT ME?!

WHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYY???!!!

WHY ALL THIS EEEVVVIILLLLLLLL…. Cough… Cough…

(You give Bonny a firm whack on the back.)

Oh, thanks, excuse me. Wasps. Bzzzz… Waspy, waspo, waspy, wasps…

Some Sidetracking Shenanigans

big_bonny

Stand yourself there my little diamond and allow me to tell you something. This clockmaker is in no way a friend of the wasp. We’ve been mortal enemies since the beginning of time.

If there are two things I hate, it’s broken clocks, wasps, and broccoli. And shampoo…

WASPS!!!

WAAAAAASPS!! OH MY GOATS!! I can barely breathe with the rage of simply thinking about them. Those little beasts are in MY clock, and everyone knows Big Bonny’s rhyme: whippety whipple, whippety wok, ain’t nobody got time for wasps up in their clock.

So yeah, I swear to get back the Council Man’s trousers if it’s the last thing I do! I promise here and now that those trousers will be back on his beautiful legs even if it costs me my life! My life! I HEREBY SACRIFICE MY LIFE FOR THE COUNCIL MAN’S TROUSERS!! DO YOU HEAR ME??!!

Mm! I think everyone heard that. It wouldn’t do to die in service and have nobody know about my heroic sacrifice.

So, Rita, here’s the plan. Listen carefully, I shall say this only once!

I’ll sneak into the clock tower, creep up the hugely dangerous stairs, unfold myself out of that deadly hatch and onto that dismal clock face, protected only by the very safe safety cord attaching me safely to the tower. Then, very carefully, very slowly, yet incredibly heroically I shall reach out and PLUCK the trousers from the clock face and remove myself from the death trap that is the clock tower without losing my balance or the trousers. It’s incredibly, uncommonly, astonishingly, FABULOUSLY DANGEROUS, so it’s not something I’m comfortable leaving up to you, Rita.

But fear not, my little pumpkin, you can also be a part of this heroic act of heroism. I have a very simple and entirely danger-free task for you. Not especially packed with honor or prestige, but just by helping me, people will certainly come to see you as some kind of shadow-dwelling semi-hero anyway! Some kind of sidekick to the main legend perhaps?

So! The only thing you need to do is climb up into the clock tower and make the wasps so extraordinarily furious that they come after you and try to sting seven shades of Sunday out of you… When they’re screamingly furious, all that you need to do is run out of there and let them chase you a bit while I get the trousers. Shouldn’t take more than about a quarter of an hour. Piece of cake!

If it’s dangerous? Unfortunately, we don’t have time for questions. Get going! Up in the tower with you, and make those wasps’ blood boil! Don’t worry, I’m right behind you the whole time!

Good luck!

Objectives: Go up into the clock tower and enrage those wasps! Make them angry!

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Approach the wasps again to make them angry. You will need to do your run out of the clock tower again, so make sure to position yourself to be ready for it.

When you have evaded the wasps, speak to Big Bonny again.

big_bonny

I made it, Rita! I did it! Ooooh yes, the feeling of accomplishment from having done this task makes my heart frizzle with delight!

Of course you should also receive a little thank you, because even if your contribution isn’t really as big as mine, you did in fact make a little effort in sharing part of the work.

If I’m not exaggerating? Haha! I’m only going so far over the top because I’m so flippin’ lovely! Your contribution to this mammoth task was basically zero, but people are going to talk about how you were part of it all anyway, so I suppose I may as well talk up your role a tiny bit. But that’s just Bonny y’know! A great old girl with a heart of gold!

Naahh, y’know what? I need to get myself home and take it easy for a while before all the reporters come running, demanding an interview with me!

You might as well give the trousers to the Council Man. If he insists on building a statue in my honor, then he should really place it atop the highest tower of the castle. That way everyone will be able to see it and be inspired by my quest for perfection.

See you soon!

Objectives: Give the trousers to the Council Man in Silverglade.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Speak to the Council Man to return his trousers, and maybe ask if he has any sting ointment…

Hi!

Oh, lovely! You have my trousers! Did you get any help from Bonny? Actually, don’t tell me. I’m sure she’ll have plenty to say about what she did next time I see her.

Now, I’m going to get to work on keeping my promise and start looking for some spare money for a horse trailer by the Racetrack! It might take a while, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something if you’re patient!

Speak to the Council Man to see if he has been able to find the money for a horse transport.

Perfectly Perfect Paperwork

council_man

Hello there! Splendid news!

I’ve managed to find some money for the horse trailer. It wasn’t easy, but in the end I managed to scrape exactly the right amount together to buy the trailer. Lovely news, eh?

A vehicle to pull the trailer? What would you be wanting with that?

Oh, the trailer doesn’t work without a vehicle to pull it. Sounds logical.

Unfortunately, the budget is too tight to find any more money for anything else now. Is there not anyone else you can ask? No?

Well, the trailer is waiting by the racetrack, in any case, perhaps you’ll come up with something.

Hold on! I think I might have an idea!

The last time I was up at North Link, I met a friendly young intern who said he knew you. Maybe you can talk to him? He seemed to have at least half a brain, unlike some of the other Neanderthals up there.

Talk to the intern. That’s my suggestion! See you around!

Objectives: Ride and ask the intern by North Link if he can help you.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Ride up to North Link and speak with the G.E.D. Trainee, who you had last helped cement up the whole in the Winery basement. He will be standing in front of the equipment at the entrance to the construction site.

We Need a Diversion!

ged_trainee

You need a vehicle that can tow a horse trailer? You wonder if I can help you?

Of course I can! We’re friends, and compared with all you’ve done for me, this would be a drop in the ocean. I can borrow a bulldozer from the construction site that you can use… I bet nobody will even notice it’s gone. Haha! This’ll be so much fun!

Hmm… The only problem is trying to drive the bulldozer off without anyone noticing. The laborers here don’t seem to care much about anything but if the intern suddenly drove off in a bulldozer, I think they might notice.

See that old man up on the cliff? Mr Bucket… Maybe he can help us? What do you think?

You’ll ride up and talk to him? Awesome, I’ll be here in the meantime.

Objectives: Talk to Mr Bucket up on the clifftop.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Ask Mr Bucket if he could help conjure up a distraction.

Mm, hello to you. How are the plans progressing for the acquisition of an alternative means of transport to North Link?

______________

A Delivery of Distractions

mr_bucket

A distraction? Ha! I have the perfect distraction right here.

Yours truly is in fact one of Jorvik’s foremost experts in Bureaucratic Business English, both in the areas of theoretical grammar and circular logic. Right now, I’m putting the finishing touches to the final version of my epic masterpiece “North Link’s Infrastructural Capacity Displacement from a Perspective of Structural Capacity.” It’s taking forever to finish because even I fall asleep after just five minutes of reading it.

If you give this copy to the construction workers below and you’ll have all the time in the world to do whatever you want.

Objectives: Give Mr Bucket’s epic masterpiece: “North Link’s Infrastructural Capacity Displacement from a Perspective of Structural Capacity” to the construction workers by North Link.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Ride into the construction site and give the essay to the Crew Lead. He can be found standing in front of the tunnel.

ged_worker

Hello. Can’t you see we’re working here?

Hmm? Read what? Do I have to? Haven’t exactly got the time for this kind of drivel.

A Successful Distraction

ged_worker

What? North Links Infrastructural Capacity Displacement from a Perspective of Structural Capacity? What on earth are you talking about? Sounds important though. Best give it a quick read.

Hmm… “North Link’s Infrastructural Capacity Displacement from a Perspective of Structural Capacity,” let’s have a look…

Reading, reading, reading…

Oh my days! I don’t understand a single thing… Feels like I should keep reading though…

I feel so very small. And stupid. And I need to start from the beginning…

(The project leader seems to be totally absorbed by the reading, this was exactly the distraction you were looking for! Now the intern can definitely drive off with the bulldozer without anybody noticing. Go back to the intern and tell him!)

Objectives: Return to the intern and let hi know the distraction worked.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Return to the Trainee and tell him about your distraction.

ged_trainee

How did it go? They’re completely preoccupied with Mr Bucket’s essay? Fantastic!

Wait for the Trainee to deliver the bulldozer, then speak to him when he returns.

So there that was. Done. Was great to see you again, Rita! Run by and say hi sometime, okay? Have a go and see if the horse trailer is working… Oh… But stop by Mr Bucket first, seems like he wants something. I can see him waving from here.

Off you go! See you again soon!

Objectives: Ride up to the clifftop above North Link and talk to Mr Bucket.

Rewards: 300 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP, Hi-Vis Jacket

Tell Mr Bucket that the project is completed.

mr_bucket

Ah, fantastic work, Rita. You’ve contributed to the completion of our project, both within the allotted time frame and without exceeding budget by a single Jorvik Shilling. Truly remarkable work, I must say.

With this new transport option now available, one may travel to Silverglade Village on a daily basis. Imagine that. The opportunity to re-engage in the bureaucratic work of our dear Town Hall truly fills me with joy and happiness.

From the bottom of my hear, I want to express my sincere gratitude.

Unfortunately, there was no space in the budget for this informal little project, but I can gladly give you one of my high-visibility vests. A proper hi-vis vest is something that should be part of every citizen’s wardrobe.

Until next time, Rita.

Starshine Legacy Episode 2 – Chapter 1: A Busy Day at School

chapter1

Today is a day when it almost feels impossible to be Linda. Not only does she have to finish her very ambitious school project, but she also is responsible for the school magazine that is due for printing today. As if that’s not enough, she’s sure to get more work from the teachers due to her competence. She braces herself and gets ready to do all her work as fast as possible because her heart is longing to get to the stables to ride Meteor.

linda

Sometimes I just have too much to do! Days like these I just want to go to the stables and practice with Meteor! I want to be prepared for the riding championships.

Well, I volunteered to be the editor-in-chief of our school paper, so I must make sure everything is on schedule for the next issue. I’m in charge now! I have to check with Mrs Graham and see if it’s okay for me to leave a bit early today.

Just because I’m ambitious and efficient, and always try my hardest, people assume I can do anything.

New objective: I need to finish all my schoolwork as fast as possible so I can get to the stables.

Go up the stairs and you will be stopped by Mrs Graham pacing at the top.

mrs_graham

Ah, there you are, Linda. You’re the editor-in-chief of the Jorvik School Gazette, if I’m not mistaken? Well young lady, I hope you know that the school gazette has never been late in its century-long history! It would be a shame if you broke this perfect record, wouldn’t it?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

I was told everything was going fine and on schedule. I’m not putting this magazine together by myself, and I hardly know how to print it!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_graham

Responsibility, hard work, and respect for traditions are the cornerstones of this school, as you well know. It is your responsibility to get the gazette done, Linda. No one else will do it for you!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

I understand, Mrs Graham. I’ll make sure it’s done.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_graham

Don’t just stand there, young lady. Hurry up! The clock’s ticking, and there are interviews missing for the last page. You have to finish them before the magazine is printed. Get going, and don’t waste time.

New objective: I must complete the school gazette. I need to interview Anne, Alex, and Lisa.

Find Anne standing in the main hall, to the right of the stairs.

linda

Hi, Anne! I really need your help to complete the school gazette. Can I do an interview with you? It won’t take long.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

anne

Sniff… I’m a little annoyed with you for not putting a picture of fabulous me on the cover of the magazine. I’m convinced more people would read it if it had a picture like that on the front page… I know I would. But okay, make it quick, Josh is waiting for me.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Thanks, Anne. I really, really appreciate it. This is a short thing for the back cover. We’re doing personal interviews with… Interesting students, so just tell me a little about yourself.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

anne

Okay. My name is Anne, and my father is the most important man in Jorvik. We have a long history of being the most important family in Jorvik. Not like those rich, upstart Dark Corporation people.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Hmm… Okay, if you say so. What are your goals in life?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

anne

Well, I could really do just about anything, but my personality and good looks make me better suited for modeling, or maybe acting, than for an academic career.

You must make sure you use a really good picture of me in the magazine!

It should be big… And in color… Wait, maybe black and white would look more artistic… No, it should be in color.

Now to find the next person to interview. Lisa can be found upstairs, at the back of the corridor by the lockers.

linda

Hi, Lisa. How are you? You did great in the tournament last week. Congratulations! I was wondering if you could help me get the school gazette finished. I need an interview of you. It’ll just take a sec.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Sure. And thanks. It’s strange, though. I can hardly believe all that’s been happening these last few days. I’m really happy things are back to normal now.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Yeah… Um… Speaking of which, I was wondering… Are you really dating Josh?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Hmm… Linda, I don’t know what to do about that. He’s really nice and all that, but I know Anne has a crush on him. Anyway, what do you want to know about me for the gazette?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Well, it would be nice to hear a little about who you are. And since you’re new to Jorvik, it’d be interesting to hear what you have to say about the place.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Yeah, like you said, I’m new here and I live with my dad. He spends most of his time on the Dark Core platforms. Everyone in Jorvik has been really nice to me… With a few exceptions, I guess. I’m getting to like the town. I’m into rock music, I play a lot myself. And I’ve taken up riding too, down at the stables.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Thanks, Lisa. We have to get together after school and talk about all the strange stuff that happened last week. Maybe we’ll see each other at the stables. We can talk more then!

Two down, one more to go. You can find Alex in the upstairs corridor, to the left of the main stairs.

linda

Hey, Alex! I’m finishing the next issue of the school gazette, and I’d like to ask you a few questions. Is that okay with you?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Sure, Linda… I’d love to help if I can… Fire away.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Great! It’s really, really simple. I’m putting portraits and short interviews of some students on the back cover, so if you just could tell me a little about yourself, that’d be great.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Sure… I don’t know if anyone will care, but since you’re asking… I’m Alex and I live with my mother and four brothers over in “Crows’ Nest.” It’s a very poor area and it can be really cold in winter. My baby brother is the most important thing in my life, and I like to spend time with horses and fixing engines in my spare time.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

That’s really interesting! What do you want to do when you finish school?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

That’s a tough question. Work with horses… Or maybe as a mechanic fixing cars in a garage. It’d be great if I could do both!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Finally! The last interview is done. Now I can print the gazette. I really hope the printer in the library is working…

New objectives: I have to print the gazette in the library.

Go back down the stairs to the library; the big double doors on the right side of the statue. Once in the library, go around the bookshelves and approach the printer that is towards the back of the room.

linda

So now all the stuff is finally in place. I’m ready to print! Soon I can take Meteor out for a ride.

blank_printer

Oh, no! I can’t believe it! What’s the problem now? Nothing seems to work for me today. Aha! There’s no ink in the printer. No wonder the pages are blank.

I don’t know how to fix it! But wait… Maybe the janitor can help me. I must find him quickly!

New objective: I must find the janitor to help me get some ink for the printer.

Find the janitor wandering around the school halls. He is a large guy wearing a light grey button-down shirt.

linda

The printer in the library isn’t working. I think it’s out of ink.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

janitor

Are you sure about that? You haven’t been tampering with it? You didn’t break it, did you?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

No, of course not. Please, I really need to print the gazette. Mrs Graham is going to be furious with me if I’m not done on time!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

janitor

Mrs Graham… Huh. She’s a bit of a dragon sometimes, isn’t she? Okay, I’ll see what I can do. Follow me. Let’s go and have a look at that printer, shall we?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Thanks!

Follow the janitor back to the library.

janitor

There you go, Linda. The ink cartridge is in place and the printer is up and running again. I’m glad I could save you from Mrs Graham – she can be very frightening at times. Trust me, I know!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Thank you very much, sir. You really saved my day!

So now all the stuff is finally in place. I’m ready to print! Soon I can take Meteor out for a ride.

ink_printer

What’s the saying… Publish or perish? Well, now that the gazette is printed, I can finally get out of here. If Mrs Graham lets me go, of course.

I really hope I don’t run into Mrs Graham again. She sounded like she had even more tasks for me to do. And I’m already late for the stables. Poor Meteor, I’m sure he misses me!

Leave the printer and head towards the library door.

linda

Argh, its so typical! There she is, and there’s no way I can get out another way. Maybe if I just walk past and pretend that it’s raining.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_graham

Hello there, young lady! Are you done with the gazette?

Good. I am pleased to see you take responsibility and complete the gazette. Now I have another task for you to do. Professor Hyman is about to lecture at the Royal Academy of Science, and he needs your help. On that blackboard behind you, the professor wrote down his theories and diagrams that explain the more… Shall we say, complex parts of them.

All I need you to do is write this down on paper, so that Professor Hyman’s theories are saved for posterity, and that he can hold his lecture! He’s really nervous, and needs the notes to make a good presentation. You’ll find me in the hall when you’re done.

New objective: Mrs Graham wants me to scribble down Mr Hyman’s notes from the chalkboard.

Go to the chalkboard behind the desk on the raised platform at the back of the library.

linda

Nooo! Someone wiped out parts of the blackboard – whatever I write down won’t be complete. Mr Hyman will be devastated!

But he held his lecture just a couple of hours ago. I’m sure some students took notes. Maybe if I find them, they can show me their notes.

New objective: I have to find someone who has taken notes from Mr Hyman’s class.

Exit the library and speak to the other students wandering around and ask them if they took notes from the lecture.

male_student

Yeah, I slept through most of Mr Hyman’s lecture. I woke up at the end and made some notes about the inverted primary numbers. Do you want to copy them?

Note 1 of 5

female_student

Yes, I wrote down the list of required reading in my calendar. Please copy it if you need it.

Note 2 of 5

female_student

He quoted so many different people during that lecture – I think I’ve got them all written down. Here’s the list I managed to put together. Please take it.

Note 3 of 5

male_student

Well… I was at Hyman’s lecture, but I was drawing comics… But wait, I did write down the order of unstable elements in the Hyman System. You can have that page from me. I don’t really get it anyway.

Note 4 of 5

female_student

Sure, I took some notes at the Hyman lecture. I’ve got most of it in my locker, but I did the Hyman Correlation Chart on the back of this paper. It’s all I’ve got.

Feel free to use it.

Note 5 of 5

linda

That’s it. Mr Hyman’s notes are complete. Now I can finally get out of here. I just need to hand these over to Mrs Graham first.

New objective: Okay, now I just have to give Mrs Graham the notes.

Find Mrs Graham standing in the main hall in front of the center statue.

mrs_graham

Oh, my dear child. That was not one second too soon. Professor Hyman’s really nervous, and terrified of making a bad impression at the lecture. I’ll go straight to him with the notes. He’ll be so relieved. And, as usual, you have proven what a resourceful girl you are.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Thank you, Mrs Graham. Um… You know, it’s getting late and I really want to get down to the stables before it’s too late. Unless there’s something else…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_graham

Now that you mention it, we are all looking forward to your essay on the landmarks of Jorvik. Why, I already told my colleagues about those photographs in the trophy cabinet, and the new light you shed on their origin! They were really interested, and were eager to know more as soon as possible.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

linda

Well, sure, Mrs Graham, but the work on the landmarks isn’t supposed to be done for another three weeks. I hardly did anything today, what with the gazette and all…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

mrs_graham

Sniff… Maybe I’ve been exaggerating the progress of your work, but you wouldn’t want to make the faculty disappointed, would you? Or even worse, make a fool out of me in front of my colleagues. At least make sure you do some research today, so I can sleep tonight, knowing that you’re making good progress on the essay.

New objective: I need to write a background story about three objects in the trophy cabinet.

Head over to the trophy cabinet on the left side of the main hall. Inspect one of the items inside.

moon_rock

linda

A “moon rock.” Strange, this piece of stone was discovered on the shores of Jorvik in the late forties. It has some strange qualities, more like rocks found after meteor showers. Interesting…

It says here that the rock was part of a collection of strange minerals at the Pine Hill Mansion. It was donated to the school when Pine Hill was abandoned.

astronomer_giobertus

What’s this? An article about the famous astronomer Giobertus visiting the Headmaster. It seems the Headmaster lived at Pine Hill in the twenties, and it seems a lot of things were going on there, then.

Well, that’s all I can figure out by looking at this little object.

headmaster

Look, here’s a photograph of Pine Hill in all its former glory. There’s Headmaster Stompkins and his chauffeur… Hey, wait a minute. That chauffeur looks almost exactly like Mr Sands… That spooky guy who tried to kidnap Lisa’s horse, Starshine, a couple of weeks ago.

That’s enough for now. I think this is a good start on an essay on Pine Hill Mansion – I hope Mrs Graham will be satisfied with my initial research.

Okay, now I’m finally done and well prepared for school tomorrow. I just hope I can get out of here and off to Meteor without any more delays… I’m heading for the front door!

Hurry! Make your break for it!

Approach the front door, the door you came in at the start of the level, to complete the chapter.

Level 1 completed!

Hey all!

I’m having a great time exploring Dino Valley. I still haven’t made it through all of the new quests for the first time yet, but I will be sure to update you when I do, then after that, I will start writing them for the blog.

Also, I will be gone without internet November 26th-30th and December 4th-7th, so I will be closing comments during those times while I am gone. It’s probably safe to guess now that I won’t get to writing up the Dino Valley quest until after that.

Hope you all have a great day and stay warm!

Gone for the Week

Hey all!

Since I will be really busy this next coming week besides travelling, I’ve decided I will be turning comments off for the whole week. I don’t have anyone to moderate the comments when I am not able to so I elect to turn them off completely (mostly because of spam issues, nothing to do with you wonderful readers, but I’m paranoid, so it helps me feel better about things).

I will be travelling tomorrow after work and will be gone without internet for the whole weekend. Even though I will be back on Monday, I will be busy getting ready for my next trip the following weekend. I apologize that you won’t get to use the comments but I hope you all understand.

I will be back on my regular schedule December 8th, so comments will be restored at that time (it still gives you two days plenty to discuss the upcoming addition of the Fjord horses!)

For all my American readers, hope you have a good Thanksgiving, and to everyone, have a great week and happy riding!

[Edit: To everyone who follows me on Facebook:

I’m not sure if I got reported or something, but the other day it forced me to change my name to my real name. I found it pretty upsetting since I don’t like to associate my real name with my online personas, but whatever. Facebook is dumb, nothing new.

You can still search my character name as I have added it as a nickname. But for the meantime, my profile is going by a different name.

I am, as always, open to friend requests and messages.]
